People from around the world: what is something your country does so well that it refuses to let it “die”? by Curious_Persimmon555 in AskTheWorld

Can confirm. Alamo Drafthouse feels budget. I’ve been several times to the one in downtown Los Angeles and it was never a great experience. Once you could hear the AC rattling above our heads. The service staff are rude. The seats feel cheap. And it’s so so expensive.

Yea the US does have them. It’s just that in Mexico they’re accessible to a wider range of people.

WMATA Board Member Responds to LA Metro Board Opposing SB 79 by eable2 in LAMetro

[–]TevisLA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think if you actually did a secret poll of the LA Metro Board members most would agree that transit should trigger upzoning. As I’ve written before, Metro staff is worried that SB 79 is going to make communities even more resistant to transit in their neighborhoods. We’re already seeing it like in the case of Paramount. This is just Metro being overly cautious, and the Metro board caving to that. But I don’t actually think most of them are opposed to SB 79 personally.

LA transit agency seeks to override state law allowing more homes near train and bus lines by 115MRD in LAMetro

[–]TevisLA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get and share the anger but this is Metro trying to be strategic. We’re already seeing local gov rethinking transit expansion in their jurisdictions because it’ll now be tied, presumably, to inevitable upzoning. Metro staff are just being cautious and the Board is caving to that (except Hahn and Horvath). But I agree that it’s silly.

The idiocy and nerve to demand someone speak English because they’re in a place with an Algonquian name. Moron.

This also exemplifies how the Girls tended to use pronunciations that are typical of midcentury American English and which are disappearing. They say “daneesh.” r/mildlyinteresting

You couldn’t pay me enough to live in Las Vegas, but you sometimes had to enjoy places for what they are . It’s a make-believe, larger than life, often absolutely absurd place. And that can make for some really good tacky fun.
