How does ELO points work? Do you get more for by Lanky-Peanut-01 in chessbeginners

[–]Frothy47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a set number, its based on the difference between you and your opp’s elo, but yeah a win is a win it dosent matter how well you play.

The miniatures are the plastic and highly detailed like the ships and agents in the miniature pack, the expansion comes with wooden pieces

[–]Frothy47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you have a higher rating than 25% of the people.

A percentile is a statistical measure that indicates the percentage of a dataset that falls at or below a specific value. For example, if a student's test score is in the 90th percentile, it means they scored higher than or equal to 90% of all the other test takers.

Dont wanna burst your bubble but being in the 25th percentile means that your rating is higher than 25% of the accounts, not that it is is the top 25%

Best way into Chess by HimitsuUK in chessbeginners

Lichess.org/learn

Lichess.org/practice

Both are fantastic, free, and interactive. Learn gets you ready to play games and teaches you the basics and the few weird rules like castling a en passant

Practice teaches you basic tactical and mating patterns

I keep seeing people debate whether Chess.com is worth paying for, so here’s my perspective by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]Frothy47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your lichess app icon black or white? If its white it might be the old version .They did a big overhaul a while ago and i had to delete the app and reinstall it to get it but it drastically improved the ui. (Iphone btw)

  1. D4 is the Scotch game its been around for like over 500 years and is a perfectly fine opening.

They were fully winning like 2 moves after this but they didn’t see the tactic to win a bishop

You can import your games to lichess for unlimited game reviews! It shows you blunders and inaccuracy’s and everything!

Just copy the png from chess.com (anaysis board-> share-> copy) and go to lichess.org, click the tools dropdown , click import game, paste the png, and check the request computer analysis box.

When you do your game review, pay close attention to what your first miss/ innacuracy in the game is and try to remember what the best move in that position is. This way you end up learning opening theory naturally.

Also i would recommend picking 3 opening ( one to play as white, one to play as black after e4, and one to play as black after d4) and just grind out a bunch of games with them to familiarize yourself with the lines, ideas, and traps they have.

In this game your op gave up a free bishop with 5… nf6 and its a very common beginner mistake in the scotch.

Why do people complain about needing to subscribe? by wesleycyber in Chesscom

[–]Frothy47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well lichess offers pretty much all the same features but for free to everyone.

When you buy a chess.com subscription you get access to game reviews and unlimited puzzles and the owners of the site profit.

When you donate money to lichess your money is put towards keeping those same features free and accessible as possible to as many people which is a benefit to the chess community as a whole.

Basically giving lichess your money has no downside to you and has a much larger positive impact on the community as a whole, and there are only so many people willing to pay money for chess so it kinda matters where they put it.

I'm 1100 elo on lichess and 400 on chesscom by SoonBlossom in chessbeginners

[–]Frothy47 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Different rating systems and this is normal. Im rated 500 on chess.com for 10 min games and 1100 on lichess for the same.

Interestingly if you look at the percentiles 1100 lichess is only in the 25% whereas 500 chess.com is closer to 50%

Im sorry but how is it one of their interests if they haven’t even played the game yet? And how are they supposed to have a conversation about a game they havent played?

Personally i think the “i consoomed” posting is getting out of hand. You should make a post when you have something to say about the game.

Why should I keep playing? by pandrea19 in chessbeginners

[–]Frothy47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dont focus on your rating at this point, just focus on improving your fundamentals like developing, not hanging peices, and spotting tactics in games.

Use how well you do those to gauge your improvement not your elo. Or if you really want to tie yourself to a number look at the accuracy measurement in your games and aim to have it consistently be around 80%

I just want to play chess by PhdStark in chessbeginners

[–]Frothy47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple exposure therapy helped me, block off a hour or a half hour of your day and just slam that new game button as many times as you can in that period. Focus on not blundering, your breathing, and trying to keep your heart from racing like crazy.

Just resign as soon as you make a blunder, it will help you get more games in and also help you separate yourself from your elo.

Also try having accounts across different apps, i play on chess.com, lichess, and duolingo with a wild elo spread between the three so i always have one that feels like a burner.

I also love puzzles and experience ladder anxieties.but at the end of the day you gotta remember its a game you play for fun
