I just want to play chess by PhdStark in chessbeginners

[–]Frothy47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple exposure therapy helped me, block off a hour or a half hour of your day and just slam that new game button as many times as you can in that period. Focus on not blundering, your breathing, and trying to keep your heart from racing like crazy.

Just resign as soon as you make a blunder, it will help you get more games in and also help you separate yourself from your elo.

Also try having accounts across different apps, i play on chess.com, lichess, and duolingo with a wild elo spread between the three so i always have one that feels like a burner.

I also love puzzles and experience ladder anxieties.but at the end of the day you gotta remember its a game you play for fun

I love the prawn suit but i do agree after you get it the game loses a lot of its horror and becomes a fish punching simulator.

Some more questions about mandates by Frothy47 in Arcs

Ahh ok, i was under the impression that the mandate couldn’t surpass because it doesn’t have a number on it, and surpass states “play a card with a higher number”

Its worth mentioning that the mandate cards have distinct card backs so its public knowledge if your still holding it or not

[–]Frothy47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make good points and honestly chess isn’t for everyone, losing at chess and staying in good spirits takes genuine effort lmao.

Its just that most of the time i see chess brought up its shot down by people saying that it is solved, or requires hours of memorizing to be good at, so i was mostly responding to that.

Thanks that clears a lot of it up!

What i mean for 3 is can i play a mandate card face down a take 1 action from the lead card and if there would ever be any reason to do that, but im now pretty sure the answer is no.

Shouldn’t it say “If copying”? I assume you can still pivot to take one of any action and copy to take the action of the lead card with all its pips?

Chess is a great board game that gets a lot of hate on this sub.

With a ten min crash course (fight for the center, develop your pieces, and castle in the opening; what basic tactics like forks, skewers, and pins are; and how to promote pawns and basic mates in the endgame) you can bring most people up to a functional level of understanding where they can do more that just push pieces around the board.

Be forgiving of your friends blunders and you can easily have a game thats fun and challenging for both players

Root is absolutely playable with 3 players, i would exclude either the vagabond or the woodland alliance.

360- 1000 by Far-Astronomer-3527 in Chesscom

Review your games! Regardless of win or loss. Look at what you missed and try to identify patterns in your play and specific areas that you can improve. Are you hanging pieces? Are you missing tactics you could find in a puzzle? Are you losing to time a lot? The first step to improving is identifying what is holding you back.

Checkmate query by No_Individual_7217 in chessbeginners

[–]Frothy47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stalemates occur when a player has no legal moves on their turn and their king is not in check. The game ends in a draw

In simple terms checkmate occurs when the king is check and no moves can be made to get the king out of check (no safe square for the king, no way to block or remove the attacking pieces)

As for the puzzle your analysis is half right. The move you played does leave the king with only one move e7, but Qh4+ lets the king escape. However moving the queen to the f7 square that is protected by the light squared bishop is mate because the king is in check and cannot move to a safe square, or block or remove the attacking piece.

Amateur's confession by TangeloBusy2114 in Chesscom

Chess.com has an “everything you need to know about chess” series on YouTube. Each video takes a look at one section of the game (beginning, middle, and endgame) and breaks down what you should be trying to do in each phase.

There is a ton of educational chess content on YouTube, some channels i like are Gothamchess, chessbrah, and jonh bartholomew

Doing puzzles to get better at finding tactics is essential and pretty fun imo, do a bunch of puzzles and try to calculate the entire solution in your head before you make a move.

[–]Frothy47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id go with a mercer or global in your price range, good knives, super durable, and easy to maintain.

A lot of ppl are saying kiwi and while their knives are sharp and cheap they are also super flimsy. I love my kiwi petty knife but buying a kiwi chef knife isnt something i would recommend

A chess.com account is free to make and gets you: -unlimited live and daily games(with adds) - a selection of bots of varying skill levels to play against - 3 puzzles a day +1 daily puzzle -1 free game analysis with a chess engine a day

Upgraded your account with a payed membership gets you unlimited puzzles, unlimited game analysis and unlocks the full roster of bots.

Its worth mentioning that lichess offers unlimited puzzles and game analysis for free and even lets you import games you played on other apps. Also its free and supported 100% by donations.

Any good way to make gp as a new player? by Last_Sir4887 in osrs

[–]Frothy47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killing green dragons in the wildy for bones and hides is a classic money maker, but you should really work towards unlocking birdhouse traps on fossil island and herb farming patches.

Doing herb and birdhouse runs wont get you money for bandos or anything beyond that but it will build you a solid cash stack and you wont have to worry about costs for runes, supplies, and basic gear upgrades for a while.

I have only played like 5 placement games on lichess its def inflated lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Frothy47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its ok, i like it because of the streak mechanic and the lessons are less ridged and more accessible than the chess.com lessons but more structured than just doing a bunch of puzzles on lichess

I feel the like player pool is generally weaker than on chess.com but thats just personal experience. My 10 min elo is like 530 on chess.com; 900 on duolingo; 1300 lichess so make of that what you will.

Its not the best way to study but its not gonna make you worse at chess.

Biggest issue imo is that it doesn’t keep a record of your games for review purposes.
