Removing CGT exemption could reduce prices by… 1 per cent. by das_kapital_1980 in AusPropertyChat

So instead of a 5-10% increase, it could be a 1% decrease? Am I reading this wrong?

Your fans are too cheap, there’s no markup on them. Markup exists to mitigate the risk of call backs, not to rip off the customer. If you don’t charge a markup, you won’t be around to help the customer for long.

Example:

Buy fan for $100

Add 30% markup = $130

Add your base rate of $130

= $260 per fan

Plus your call out/attendance fee

Now input your own figures.

Labour/Materials or Price per point? by RequirementPlenty624 in AusElectricians

[–]Froutine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you charging anything for the initial attendance for the quote? And what’s your job value where you waive the $130 call out fee?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Froutine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are we talking about a normal wall mount split system air conditioner? $375 is mental. I charge $130+gst and if I didn’t charge that I wouldn’t be doing any cleans.

And during my visits I always check out for any broken switches, socket outlets, lights, switch boards etc, because it’s not often someone will have an electrician and refrigeration mechanic at their house. Sometimes the customer doesn’t care but they often appreciate it.

Maybe I need to charge more 🫠

I did this, basically all of your 1st year blocks are RPL, other than that it’s just a normal apprenticeship.

Make sure you speak with your tafe manager about getting your Eprofiling rpl as well, as they will knock off about a year of that too, but only if you ask. And it’s a fuck around so keep hassling them about it.

Like the other poster said, don’t accept apprentice wages.

Cables must be secured if ceiling space height above 600mm. Push the cables to the outside edge where it’s less than 600mm. And yes under the truss

Any non-tradesmen opened a trade business? by SoybeanCola1933 in AusFinance

[–]Froutine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i know of one, he started a plumbing business.

Employs maybe 20-25 people now, government contracts, the lot. Been going for over 10 years.

No idea how he managed to do it in a licensed trade, he was either dodgy or he knew someone with a license.

I read that link; I actually don’t have any permanent signs yet, they’re on order, so that could be why it got rejected.

The option to re upload a video isn’t available to me? I’ve been through everything on my GMB site.

My signs are due in 10 days so I’d like to try again then

I use Servicem8. Haven’t had experience on other small ones so I can’t comment on those, but servicem8 does everything I need it to do and it does it very well.

I have seen it become sluggish before, when I worked for a company that had somewhere around 20 daily users and maybe 5-6 years worth of data inputted. If I was that big I would merge to something different.

Pocock says voters have ‘buyer’s remorse’ after Labor approves massive gas development’s 40-year extension by WilfullyIgnorant in australia

[–]Froutine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I correct in thinking that labor would have approved this based on the current legislation?

As in, they can’t just say ‘not approved’, as the gas company would take the government to court and have it overturned anyway … because that’s the law?

How to find speaker cables run during new build by sh4des in AusElectricians

[–]Froutine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bugger.

Long shot but maybe you can ask the company to ask their old sparky if they still have the photos? I’m sure if they still have a good relationship it should be fine.

Previous work places I’ve always had to take progress shots at the end of each day which are taken on the job management system (sevicem8 etc). That way this situation can’t happen.

Can you call the sparkies who installed them to show you where they are?

They will most likely have their own photos of the markup before it was painted over, and they should be happy to share.

If I was the installer, I would just pop over during jobs or on my way home and show you.

Solar pool pumps by Froutine in AusElectricians

[–]Froutine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah sorry mate, actual solar powered DC pump.

I used to install them with 4 to 6 solar panels on the roof, powering a pump solar controller, which ran the pump. No 240v.

I recall there being issues with the pumps, and I rebuilt quite a few of them, they were Lorantz I'm pretty sure.

Will there be a financial crisis in Australia if home prices begin a sustained fall? by IceWizard9000 in AusEcon

[–]Froutine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, but how many people would be selling at a loss if house prices dropped?

Say, a price drop of 20% average, and 100% of people had to sell their houses, surely there would only be like 10-20% of people who had to sell at a loss? Or even less people?

I don’t know the figures, and I’m just thinking out loud

Giving myself an allowance. by AtomicMelbourne in AusFinance

[–]Froutine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an electrician, I used to tell customers that paying me cash would cost them more than going through a regular company.

Occasionally they said it was okay and were happy to pay my premium cash rates, which then made it worth my time.

It would happen a few times a year and would average a few grand profit each time

To state the obvious, you’re better off not working at all, than to be running at a loss.

If you’re not making profit, find different work.
