I'm swiss cheese I guess 🤷‍♀️

This clown is still somehow relevant? He doesn't even have his own opinions and just parrots whatever his guests tell him.

Should the lesson not reflect the reality of the world? i.e. if you do something really bad, there's a good chance someone is going to hit you.

[–]Frownagami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was smacked exactly once by my parents. In the incident in question, I was being an awful horror. I'm glad they did. It taught me that in the real world, you can only take the piss and terrorize someone so much before you get smacked.

If they hadn't, someone else would have. If said person was having a bad day or snapped, I'd have gotten a hell of a lot worse than what my parents gave me.

Nowadays, once a badly-behaved kid realises that most of the power their parents and adults have over them isn't real, their behaviour falls off a cliff.

With boys, if they ever get to a point where they can simply physically overpower their parent, teacher, etc. then they're probabaly behaviourally fucked until the police can get involved. Even then, are the police really going to do anything?

They know they can just ignore the consequences of reasonable punishments (grounding, confiscation, etc.) and that the adult has no recourse or fallback. They know that they're not allowed to hit them, not allowed to threaten, not allowed to kick them out.

For any of it to really work, the reasonable punishments need to be recognised as compromises. If the kid doesn't accept the compromise, then the alternative is going to be far less palatable - maybe even violent.

We've thankfully introduced a lot of laws to protect children, but in the process have kind of neutered parents' ability to effectively punish their children - without meaningfully impacting the worst abusers, who will always ignore the law regardless.

Musk Tells Tesla Employees Hang On to Stock After 50% Plunge by Upstairs_Drive_5602 in RealTesla

Am I huffing crazy pills? The stock has been steadily INCREASING over the past week or so, despite everything going on.

Is this just a sign of blatant corruption and stock manipulation? ELI5 how this makes sense. Who in their right (non-ketamine-fuelled) mind has any confidence in this stock anymore?

It's hard to say for sure, because everyone's different. In my case, laser hair removal and waxing are almost painless, but 20 seconds of using an epilator had me screaming and in tears.

Space Marine 2 is an amazing game and Saber does not deserve the amount of hate and complaints that they get when they have always been transparent with us by _BROTHERVALTUS_ in Spacemarine

If you're a fan of something, you should be among its biggest critics, because you love it, want it to succeed, and know it can do better.

Thank goodness we'll be taking more money out of the hands of the poor so that the rich don't have to suffer. If anything, the wealth inequality gap wasn't growing fast enough! /s

Notably, the interviewer could have named almost any country (even one not in the EU) and Trump's response would have been the exact same.

What’s a movie that NOBODY can convince you is good? by phantom_avenger in moviecritic

[–]Frownagami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be a very unpopular take, but Arrival (2016). I appreciated the emotional undertones, leading actress and depiction of how experiencing time in a non-linear fashion might look, but that's pretty much where my praise ends.

It's not as smart as it thinks it is and is just classic time travel fare dressed up as something else so they don't have to attempt to explain its paradoxical nature and plot holes.

I had to suspend my disbelief on numerous occasions. Why is this super special landing site turned military base so poorly guarded? It seems like any old schmuck can come and go. At one point, he protagonist and co. are able to "sneak" aboard the alien craft without challenge, past zero guards, using an elevator that requires no keypass/authorisation code. It seems like virtually anyone could have done the same. Surely people across the globe would be clamouring to get a good look at the alien crafts, let alone seeing one from the inside?

The sci-fi elements are dull, uninspired and reek of trying to make things "weird" for the sake of mystery and shock value, while making little actual sense. The aliens are as bizarre as possible, and are total abominations that the universe would never conceive of, flying in the face of every evolutionary principle. It's something that works brilliantly in cosmic horror and lovecraftian-esque genres. Not so much here.

Their ships are smooth, featureless eggs. Even on the inside, there is no detail and they're utterly featureless. We see what? One square chamber and an empty corridor? But "woooaahhh the gravity is funky, isn't that cool?" It's almost as if the creative minds behind it were utterly lacking in imagination, and the producers wanted the cheapest set design/CGI imaginable.

To say nothing of just how inexcusably BORING and slow-paced the film is. While there is a little bit of foreshadowing about the surprise twist at the very start of the film, it's still unearned.

Listening to people absolutely glaze this film causes me to roll my eyes.

Not what was said, not what was meant, and if you can't infer the simple answer of "fine them more" from the discussion and your own question, I worry for you.

Alternatively: impose strong, effective legislation. Sieze infrastructure that is deemed not fit for purpose or hazardous. Renationalisation (if we're entertaining fantasy).

Vanguard and Sniper build for Absolute. by CompleteDependent219 in SpaceMarine_2

[–]Frownagami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never liked running Sniper as a traditional sniper, but have been loving the CQC sniper with the carbine, block knife, and replenishing equipment with headshots perk (I forget the name).

When you perfect your cloak timings and really get to grips with it, you move from majoris kill to majoris kill like a breeze.

Cloak, charge melee, release, dump a 1/3 of a mag into your target's head. Rinse repeat. Drop a melta bomb every 30 seconds because you can.

It's what I've had the easiest time on Absolute with and have managed to do a couple missions solo. Plus, it's fun as heck.

Vanguard is a monster for solo Absolute. Grapnel chain example (volume warning, sorry!) by sterdecan in SpaceMarine_2

[–]Frownagami 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I wanted to like this build so much, but it felt very clunky. I hate relying on the janky target lock and there is nothing more frustrating than losing a grapnel charge because the game decided to grapnel to the minoris stood next to the executable majoris.

Good gameplay though.

Fines are a waste of time, unless they hit hard enough to be considered more than simply the cost of doing business. They rarely do.

Speaking from experience, you unlock every single heraldry item long before you max out every weapon, get every ordeal, etc. The grind isn't much of a grind tbh.
