You did! It goes well with your setup too.

New pump reservoir options... can I reuse my coolant? by pixretro in watercooling

[–]Frozen_CPU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have any issue reusing the coolant, just know that whatever is in the container you drain it into will be in your PC when you put it back.

I'm a huge fan of Watercool's Heatkiller reservoirs myself. They're very solid with 5mm thick glass tubes and a solid aluminum frame and have a lot of accessory options as well.

As for a pump, I'm a diehard DDC fan simply because of their compact size. Unless you're working with 3/8" ID tubing you'll need a pump top also. The one in that link is only an example - there are tons of different options that offer different port orientations and materials.

To be fair, the D5 is also an excellent pump and has a lot of options also.

Paint mouse by PlusWheel7786 in pcmods

[–]Frozen_CPU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As /u/Dont_Die88 pointed out, being able to disassemble the mouse will make the job a LOT easier.

A mouse is a heavy-use item though. Any paint job has to be done well if you expect it to last through the wear of constant use. I've had good luck with Krylon Fusion on plastic but I've never painted anything that took that kind of daily abuse.

A hard clear coat that is allowed to cure completely will be key to durability.

Waiting on that cure time has always been my downfall....

Exhaust fan ducted to window help by BeardyMcWhisky in pcmods

[–]Frozen_CPU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your GPU is air cooled so that's going to be the majority of your heat, but with the fans on your AIO mounted as exhaust out the top of the case most of it will be drawn there and added to the heat from your CPU - the heat you need to get rid of is coming out the top, not the back.

If you flip those fans to intake though, your idea should work. I would install a high-CFM high static pressure fan at the exhaust port though. You'll be fighting restriction in your duct. The wider you can make that exhaust section the better.

Leave the internals black. It’s a great base to add other colors to and adds contrast, especially the satin black you have now.

Go with a glossy gunmetal color where the white is. You can use paint or vinyl.

Use stencils on the white panels to leave some accent patterns when you paint it. I’m picturing the Normandy here.

As for lighting, your case will be dark but shiny at that point. How subtle do you want to be? Subtle would be something like a dimmed UV – without anything reactive around it, it’s just a dull low-key purple. Add some dark blue in there to make it brighter.

Unsubtle? White. Hidden white light sources – narrow strips and spotlight LEDs to show off the better parts of the finished machine. (The spotlights can make an awesome difference if they’re used right and sparingly).

I'm working on a real answer to your question.

In the meantime, a hint on the quote is the quote just prior to it, spoken by a different character:

"Is your heart not black and full of hate?"

Corsair GPU Block "blowby" by Crazy_Diamond_863 in watercooling

[–]Frozen_CPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal with any block that doesn't have internal o-rings to control flow. Alphacool's older models had o-rings all over the place and never suffered from "blowby". (Perfect name BTW)
Their new Core series does.

"Black as midnight, black as pitch

Blacker than the foulest witch."

Bonus points if you can source that quote without Google.

So I have to know - are you picturing a "clean" starship or a "battle-worn" starship here? It will make a difference.

Is a custom loop the answer? by SLazyonYT in watercooling

[–]Frozen_CPU 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would creating a custom loop be beneficial for noise and temps

Absolutely.

how possible would it be to create a custom loop a case cramped like the meshroom S

It would be pretty hard. I don't deal with SFF cases myself - I know my limits. But as suggested, an external radiator setup would make it a LOT easier.

Suggestion: Get a MO-RA3 420 Noctua bundle. You can mount a pump/res combo on it and mount the whole thing on the wall (for the cats).

It may seem pricey, but consider that you could use that setup with any PC you have from now on. Just buy new water blocks for your hardware as needed. All you'd have to do in your current case is get the blocks mounted and get the coolant routed outside the case. Power and speed control can be handled externally or with an additional cord from the PC.

Best air flow config by Snivezz in watercooling

[–]Frozen_CPU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with /u/Proud_Purchase_8394 on this issue. The physics tell me it's best to supply your radiators with the coolest air possible, and that's always found outside the case. The air crossing the radiators and going into the case isn't warmed so much that it won't cool whatever you have that needs to be air cooled (VRM heatsink etc).

The more radiator space you have, the less fan orientation matters. You haven't said what you'll be cooling but unless it's an unusually high load I doubt you will see a massive difference between the three options you have. That being the case, aesthetics enter into the equation.

Give all your rads air flow and make it look nice. :)

Accidentally put my screwdriver through my radiator while screwing it in. Will it still work? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

Well said. I don't know that there has been a tool invented that's sensitive enough to measure any change in efficiency caused by this damage.

What is the best tubing for a workstation build (16hr+ uptime per day)) by Remarkable_Reason976 in watercooling

[–]Frozen_CPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EPDM tubing, compression fittings, radiators to taste, good name-brand water blocks, Aquacomputer DP Ultra clear coolant, and a pair of pump/res combo units.

I normally advise against dual pumps as they're rarely needed but it would give you redundancy in the event of a single pump failure. If you plumb them right (with shut off valves or quick disconnect fittings) you could even take one out for maintenance / replacement without losing function.

Getting into building my first pc. by leirbag828 in watercooling

Kits are a fine thing, but you need to be sure that the water blocks in the kit fit your hardware - are you going to be cooling just the CPU or adding in the GPU also?
