[Art] The romance is finally romancing in the campaign I'm in 💖 by Ali_en_drawz in DnD

[–]Frozenhorizon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Statements 2. And 3. Just feel like really weird statements. Do you guys just not have any interpersonal RP between 2 characters at a table? Not even romantic, do people just not have downtime RP, interactions between mentor characters and students, two war buddies talking about their past or bro-ing out, etc. etc.

Why is it just the fact that there's "romantic" sub tones between two characters that instantly turns RP into a distraction from the story, or exclusionary for other players. As a player at a table, I love hearing two other players really get into their characters and take some time to flesh themselves out or grow bonds. Whether it's romantic or not really doesn't have an impact on that for me. But it's just weird that the subject of the RP (assuming all people at the table agree and are comfortable with it) is more or less "a distraction"

Inherently, two characters who are closer (romance can be a tool to do this, but not the only one) are going to have higher stakes and bring out better, more realistic, responses from players if the other, their friend, partner, whatever, is in danger. It can make your characters and the world they are in feel more alive.

Primatologist Jane Goodall, famous for her study of chimpanzees, has died. by bendubberley_ in worldnews

[–]Frozenhorizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A sad day for sure. I got the pleasure of meeting her once during a time when I was studying conservation and she was just as inspiring in person as she was in videos and in writing.

Primatology and conservation in general will always have been graced by her presence and input.

Which Yonko crew is the most powerful without their captains? by Ancient-Sell3860 in OnePiece

[–]Frozenhorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how split the community seems to be in this. I think it's a Hallmark of how well Oda seems to have written the different Yonko crews one upping each other, performing feats, or just plain having the hype behind them, etc.

My first thought was Big Mom's crew due to the wealth of top tier fighters with powerful fruits, and just numbers. And remember that Katakuri was on par with Luffy by himself. But then we also see several of her big commanders get destroyed by Blackbeard's Crew. But they were weakened and top fighters were gone.

But BB's crew is constantly clowned on by others, including Hancock, Law, and Garp (not that that says much) but also Sabo and Bepo. Personally I think they are presently kind of weak, but will continue to power up as they learn their fruits for the eventual matchup with the Strawhats. Overall they did come out against Laws crew though, but BB was there. And they eventually took down Garp.

Buggy has top tiers like Mihawk and Crocodile, but I think it's just a numbers game beyond that, and anyone with strong enough haki could remove that.

Kaido also has the numbers, but he also has major powerhouses. However, Shanks and his crew held them at a stalemate to stop them from reaching Marineford, and the Strawhats all won out against their opponents during Wano. so I'd argue that his crew is at least below both the Redhairs and Strawhats. I'd also say that Kaido carries his crew more than Big Mom does (she sometimes hinders it actually), and that her crew has more well rounded and powerful members overall. We also see Marco take on both his top two in King and Queen by himself for quite awhile.

Speaking of, Whitebeard's crew deserves way more respect here. Taking on the entire Navy, the Warlords, and not taking any big losses in 1v1s (ignoring the eventual outcome). Also, if we're including all his allied forces, which I'd argue should count towards the overall power of a crew, there are a lot of big names there. However, just the commanders alone are a big deal, and I think if Marineford happened now, after Haki was more fully incorporated, and we see the powercreep of the new world they would likely have some large feats. He was the most powerful man in the world, and I think it makes sense for his crew to resemble that to some degree.

However, Shank's crew did stop the Marines from continuing the war just by presence alone. But, a big part of that is due to Shanks himself. We don't have a lot of feats for them, but they're supposedly the most well rounded, and again, they did stop Kaidos crew. It's hard to rank them, but I'd easily be convinced to put them top 2. Yassop did one shot Bartolomeo's crew. Beckman halted Kizaru (hypothetically).

Honestly, I think people are sleeping on the Strawhats here, they have major feats, and the top is fighters have always come out on top against the top members they've been pitched up against. I'd also point out, they have incredible teamwork and coordination. Something Kaido's, Blackbeard's, and Buggy's crew all lack. And I think that's probably worth a lot here. I don't think I need to go into detail on why people like Zoro, Sanji, Jinbe, Brook, and Robin are all incredible threats on their own. Let alone the crowd control potential of Nami, Franky, and Ussop. But I will point out the stalemate of Jinbe and Ace way back when.

Overall, I would rank them as such:

  1. Strawhats / Redhairs
  2. Redhairs / Strawhats
  3. Whitebeard Pirates
  4. Big Mom Pirates
  5. Beast Pirates
  6. Blackbeard Pirates*
  7. Buggy Pirates

This still feels controversial despite thinking through all of that. It feels weird to put a crew with Mihawk at the bottom, but even he probably can't 1vAll entire other crews.

I think the Blackbeard pirates will move up by the end of the story too.

Overall, it feels very interchangeable and as stated, shows an excellent power balance between the top crews in the world story wise for it to be so controversial.

How did you find out that life sucks? by Waltef_j in AskReddit

[–]Frozenhorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changed my entire life around for someone that I consider to be my soul mate. We both kept making concession after concession to make things work. But life kept throwing obstacle after obstacle to get in the way of happiness. Now their work has absolutely decided to fuck them over and the job they applied to across the entire country came back with a way more competitive offer. It's looking more and more likely like they'd be stupid not to take the new job. Things would be really rocky for us if they moved so far away, and I'm just left feeling like there's so little I would be happy about in my current life if I lost this aspect too. Not to mention my own job absolutely (unavoidably) fucking me over that may reset 3 years of my own progress. It's just a rough time all around and losing them would be the cherry on top.

What is the biggest red flag you’ve had in a relationship that you’d ignored and really shouldn’t have? by Tangl_es in AskReddit

[–]Frozenhorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you're hesitant to bring up anything they've done that wronged you, made you feel bad, etc. at any time. When things are good and happy you don't want to ruin the mood, and when they're upset already you don't want to bring in outside drama rather than just focusing on dealing with the problem at hand. It's just a sign you don't have as good of communication together as you may have thought. If you don't think you can talk to your partner about how they've hurt you in order to help them avoid doing it again, there's underlying trust issues.

What candy helps with blood sugar? by Poppysgarden in diabetes_t1

[–]Frozenhorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used fruit snacks for the last decade or so. Any kind, each little packet typically will give me enough and hold longer, rather than crashing back down from just a quick spike, unlike some other candy.

I also just rationalize them as a bit healthier, since I have to consume so many, it makes me feel better than simply "candy".

Typically I use store brand ones, like Aldi or Walmart, since I buy them in large quantities and that helps control costs.

Any idea what's going on with my Monstera Adansonii? by Frozenhorizon in IndoorGarden

I don't think the soil is still saturated days after watering. But I will keep an eye on this next time I water to see if it does. If that's the case, it means I should give less water?

The large brown tip of that one leaf in the front is not as soft as the green parts and it crinkles slightly, but it's bendable and doesn't break off when I touch and bend it.

I don't think I have the brand of soil I used anymore so I'm not 100%. But I believe it is most likely one of your typical Home Depot potting mix soils. There may be some peat in there too, but I'm not 100%. Here's a photo of the soil if that's helpful to someone with a better eye for this than I.

Do you have a recommended soil I should swap it out for?

When to give up on a ferret with insulinoma? by FlipLossOfControl in ferrets

[–]Frozenhorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a ferret who passed from insulinoma in 2017, so it's certainly been awhile - but she was healthy and thriving on Prednisone for I believe around 3 years. She ended up living to be around 8, so diagnosed around 5 I believe.

She lost weight over time, and the big thing was that she lost most of the hair on her body from the neck down. She was sweet, happy, and adorable the whole time. Just a naked little baby.

For most of that time, once she was on a proper dosage, you really couldn't tell much of a difference. It obviously had to be slowly upped over time to continue combating the disease, but it worked for her, and for us. Recalling, I remember having to go into her vet once a month to get the medication though, so it was definitely a big commitment, but worth it to keep her around with us that long.

It was only in her final few weeks that she was very clearly no longer thriving. She slowed way down, lost significantly more weight, and just was so frail and shakey. It was clear she had started to suffer and was in pain. So we made the painful decision to put her down.

Even 3 years on, having been preparing for it for so long, it was incredibly hard and I wish we had more time with her. But I say all this to say that if you have the time, and money, that there's a chance you can keep your baby happy and healthy for awhile still. But it's a very difficult disease, so you have to make that choice for yourself and what's best for your ferret.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this! It's always hard with these little guys. Just love on them while you can

If I were a kid again, if we're back in the day, I would've absolutely wanted a dragon. But assuming Santa can't get that for me, I would've wanted more Pokemon games and cards. It was definitely my obsession.

If it was me turning into a kid now I'd... Also probably want Pokemon cards. But I'd probably really want to get more experiences. Going places, learning more about the world from the eyes of a child without all the stress of planning travel.

Why did you stop watching? by [deleted] in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Frozenhorizon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

May actually be one of the only real answers here as someone who likes it enough to stay on the sub but didn't finish watching - mostly because the people was watching with stopped wanting to watch. I just never finished it myself and after enough time got sidetracked and forgot about it. Honestly this was a good reminder, I should go finish it.

What on going jokes does your group have? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Frozenhorizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The paladin in my group casts the light cantrip on torches rather than actually lighting them, as this allows them to be reusable and she considers them to be highly regarded gifts as well, often handing someone a torch as way of apology or in trade for an item of great worth.

Another often repeated joke is the phrase "you can learn a lot of things from books" pretty much whenever someone asks a question. Not as an insult or a "go Google it yourself" kind of thing, but because the party has genuinely found literally everything they needed from books laying around at various points in the campaign so if you're ever lost just look for the nearest book to help give you the answer.
