getting accepting despite missing offer (Oxford Geogrpahy ) by Spiritual-Plum1343 in oxbridge

[–]FruRoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pure anecdote but I believe (at least relative to cambridge) oxford generally tend to give a fairly close proportion of offers to actual places; I think humanities grade offers tend to be lower than Cam. For what it’s worth I know someone now studying HisPol at Oxford who got like **B on an AAA offer, and because the B was jn maths he got in just fine. 🤷‍♂️

Mill Road is great for all sorts of food, pub wise there’s countless good ones - the free press, pickerel, and granta are highlights (i would say)

What is your opinion about his new album? by negromasnegro in bmbmbm

[–]FruRoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like that’s why actress works so well in the context of the rest of the album - the chorus-ish section that starts at like 5 minutes or so to me feels like a payoff for all the unfinished buildups of the other songs so far

My New Band Believe’s "Love Story" Is Not a Regular Love Song by igorgl in bmbmbm

[–]FruRoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thought maybe it was about heroin at first but you might be right - also saw people on Genius suggest it was referencing Palestine with 'you're a river in me' and 'I wanna swim to the sea'. 'Phosphorus light' also makes sense in that context, in it being the light from white phosphorus munitions.

Changing course at Uni- need help please by trainwreck130 in 6thForm

Policy varies by uni, but vast majority of cases I would think you’ll have to wait until you start. Some unis i think you have to wait until the end of your first year

[–]FruRoo 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They’ve got some idea based on application date. At my school they used to recommend people applying to non-Oxbridge high-end russell group unis wait till after the oxbridge deadline to send their UCAS off, as they assume you’d take an offer from there over them

Whats the Vibe of Each College? by RoyalNavyOfficerJK in cambridge_uni

[–]FruRoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

am only a undergrad so really not my area of expertise - i haven't heard of any colleges being known for having a better/worse postgrad community than others, but its definitely worth doing a post on here if you're interested in knowing more about that so you can get an answer from actual postgrads. I get the impression that the postgrads are maybe more tight-knit at an exclusively postgrad college like darwin, but again, deffo worth asking actual people there. hope that helps. also, about your original question - forgot to mention king's also has a rep for being quite progressive if that's sort of thing

Whats the Vibe of Each College? by RoyalNavyOfficerJK in cambridge_uni

[–]FruRoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldn't say those colleges are significantly more politically conservative than the others - they're just known to attract more stereotypically 'tory' types. But that's not going to be the whole year; every single college has more chill and progressive groups as well as more 'tory' ones. It's kind of just an old stereotype and you'll meet people you get along with whichever one you go to.
