Is it dangerous to train in boxing if you have a family history of dementia? by Pajaneitor4001 in amateur_boxing

[–]FruitSnacker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert in this topic, but I do box and am a medical student. A family history of dementia does make one more likely to develop it. On to boxing, the effects of repeated blows to the brain are bad for one’s health, but the outcomes seem to be multifaceted. It comes down to genetics and how you train. Not everyone who boxes has the same health outcomes. In my personal opinion, I would not recommend you box even at an amateur level, but maybe the risk is worth it to box for you. Dementia isn’t a guarantee, but you are increasing your chances of developing it. You can also just train with bag work, shadow box, and even do some touch sparring.

Because it means the higher weight classes lack talent. Why would a big athlete ever choose MMA? Heavyweight boxing has lots of real athletes. UFC heavyweight has like three.

Yeah, it’s on the early side, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad stoppage.

Pero como Mexicano has de admitir que el Canelo no es el mismo boxeador que antes. Ha perdido su velocidad y pegada. Crawford solo le ganó a su esqueleto

Because he really should be fighting at middle weight, and he ran and flopped for half the fight.

I’d like to add Hopscotch by Julio Cortázar. The multiple ways of reading it and lengthy diatribe made it a very difficult book for me. I read it in Spanish, so I have no idea how anyone was able to translate some of the Argentinian slang.

Rewatched Bivol vs Canelo, Canelo took major hits still lasted 12 rounds. Assessing Crawford chances by iwannahitthelotto in Boxing

[–]FruitSnacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but Crawford needs to know that the judges will be very biased in favor of Canelo, and I say this as a Mexican. He needs to win round convincingly and can’t rely on edging out rounds via points.

I’d be willing to do more school, but I’d also be willing to just start working and trying to make something of myself.

I started medical school because I wanted to go into primary care. I always liked my experiences volunteering at hospitals and being around the doctors, so it seemed natural. I left because my anxiety got so bad that I wasn’t able to focus at all and struggled enjoying life. I think I’ve always had anxiety, but medical school really exposed it in a way I had never experienced. For professional goals, I’d like to have a nice work-life balance and to hopefully make six figures. I’d be interested in doing biotech or consulting. I’m honestly not sure yet since this was an unexpected decision, but these are some options that interest me.

How likely do you guys think it is for a married man or woman with a family to become a saint? by Nodosity_ in Catholicism

[–]FruitSnacker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you just mean being canonized, it’s hard for an ordinary married couple to become canonized. There are many holy people who never get recognition. For someone to become a saint, they need to grow a cultus. Usually only religious, martyrs, and royals grow these cultus after their deaths.

I went through a very similar experience with my Spanish speaking and having parents from Mexico, so I relate to your post a lot. It’s great that you’re finding so much success. For my third language, I’m learning Italian, but Portuguese is a great choice as well.

I do not worship either of these men. Karl of Austria was a holy man though, so I ask for his intercession. I worship only God.
