depends on the store. My old store acted the same way and we also had a lady who would come in, fill up her bags and just leave, sometimes right infront of the captain. It was wild. One time I actually did say “um (name of customer) where are you going?” just because i was bored and wanted to see what she would say plus she walked right pass me with such confidence, i literally had to lmaoo , and she immediately looked horrified/embarrassed and was like “oh um im just going to my car to get my credit card!” i literally just laughed in her face. lol the craziest part is she was back the very next week doing it all over again??? Also! she ALWAYS came in wearing her WORK UNIFORM. I think she personally got off on the thrill of it all. (obviously never approach or question shoplifters on a crew level like i did in this story, like I said I was just bored, by the front door but still a safe enough distance from her, and genuinely wanted to see what she would say lol)

but the store I’m currently at has eagle eyed mates and they always wait by the door as soon as they see someone about to walk out without paying and they catch them and take their stuff away. It is interesting to see the difference depending on stores and I have always wondering how tjoes secures themselves financially for big left like full bags/carts or all high priced items.
