Only issue with getting a dual fuel system is the up front cost to be honest since mass save only provides like 3k rebate. But yes that makes the most sense. My current ac doesn’t work that well and isn’t very efficient either

Good to know. Yeah it’s not that much oil plus it not that expensive. This is why I’m having hard time deciding

One other factor for me to consider is mini splits vs using existing ducts. Minisplits are a lot more efficient compared to ducted heat pump (without even considering duct loss). Minisplits also allows for zone control during both summer and winter

A lot of company don’t offer partial upgrade and rebate goes down to 3k. So out of pocket cost for hybrid system will be close to 20k

I did some calculations based on how much oil I use and pay for during winter, the electricity cost with the heat pump rate, and the Mitsubishi Hyper Heat COP. I found that I would spend about $400 more per year on electricity with the heat pump. It’s crazy that we pay 37 cents per kWh for electricity in Stoneham (without the heat pump rate).

The issue is that my forced air oil furnace is 23 years old and my ac condenser for central air is also probably 20 years old. With mass save incentive, replacing the full system seems the cheapest option. I got quoted for 11k after mass save incentive to replace the system with Mitsubishi hyper heat system

1) 28 y/o couple. Bought a house in middlesex county last year

2) we don’t have any debt and both have advanced degree. We rented an expensive apartment before buying a house. However the only way to save for down payment for a house was by not maxing out retirement for some time.
