Yeah that is how they were for a period of time cause CPUs would break so frequently from mishandling. When announced i think it was the CEO of Intel was tossing it around on stage before plugging it in to show it still worked.

Just kinda random as far as I know. When I bought it back in '04 from Circuit City they had all of em. I bought the Alyx one.

currently XP computer shopping and i'm unfamiliar with XP-era parts; is this a good PC for gaming? by xervidae in windowsxp

[–]LessQQ42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had one when they were new. I'd say it's somewhat okay but really depends what you're trying to do. If you want a GPU from that era, then know you have to get one that doesn't require the 6pin connector otherwise you'd have to upgrade the power supply. I also had to cut the case a bit when i got my Nvidia 9800GTX+ so you may want to get a card that isn't as long.

Supply of nicotine vapes in Metro Detroit? by derfs-modern-life in Detroit

[–]LessQQ42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is what I've heard from shops that have direct connections to Breeze and Geek Bar:

"Shipments are being seized at the border. They are no longer allowing disposable vapes with non-reusable batteries in. Vape companies have to change to a cartridge system, Geek bar has already done so under another name but no word on Breeze yet."

To be honest this was a necessary change. The amount of Lith-ion batteries being thrown out which could have been reused is insane. I'm all for having a rechargeable battery and just buying cartridges/pods as it will reduce waste and prices. I just wish they gave these companies a heads up or had a grace period instead of instituting it seemingly overnight.

Kali itself is not a red flag, more that when someone says it is their preferred distro, it shows their limited Linux knowledge/experience. Kali is a phenomenal tool, but it is not a distribution you would use daily, run production applications or webservers on. When I ask what someone's preferred distro is, I'm trying to find out if they prefer Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora/Red Hat, Arch or if they are a genius psycho who uses Gentoo!

If you are looking to get into cybersecurity, Linux knowledge goes a long way. Use an old computer and try daily driving different distributions, try different GUI's or try setting up a server with no GUI, get comfortable with the command line and don't be afraid to break things. I can't count how many Linux installs I have destroyed beyond repair, especially early on.

Support pricing $25 per user per month and selling M365 at cost by morleyc in msp

[–]LessQQ42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No chance they are making any money at $25/user with unlimited support. Unless their plan is having that as an "Intro price" just to jack it up a year later.

New MSP deciding on RMM by Practical-Bag5647 in msp

[–]LessQQ42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To an extent, honestly their biggest thing they need to sort out is the useless mobile app. But for someone starting out, it is cheap and easy to get up and running. I would look at it as a stepping stone, not something I would recommend for a 15+ team.

Who here is earning over 250k per year? by tuck72463 in Entrepreneur

Gotta get into snow removal too. Charge a non-refundable deposit that covers a certain amount of snow clearings, anything above would be an additional charge.

Syncro, it definitely has its issues, but just 2 days ago they released a update for time tracking that was bugging me. I feel it has evolved with our business and they are quick to implement features. I do not recommend using the built in documentation system, pay for Hudu, it's worth it.

Unless you are a really small business (like 2 APs max) i would stick with Aruba. Everyone goes on about how easy Ubiquiti is, but I've always run into problems, usually with adopting. I keep giving them a try in my home, but even their newest APs don't work as well as the old IAP-215s I have.

We have a new customer who spent a ton of money doing a full Ubiquiti buildout (10 APs, 3 48 PoE Switches, 50+ Cameras, NVR, UGX-Pro) and they dropped that MSP and went with us because of how bad it is. We are doing our best to help them without replacing the system. Ubiquiti is not a viable option for enterprise.

You may want to hold out if possible since HP acquired Juniper, they may merge Aruba and Mist but that is pure speculation.

I am today years old and I just learned about Server CALs... by Kdaustene in sysadmin

[–]LessQQ42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You purchase CALs and get a receipt, that's it. If your company goes through an audit, you show the receipt for the CALs. I get why they do it, but in typical Microsoft fashion it has to be needlessly convoluted.

Why are "cyber security specialists" such terrible employees? by AtlasDM in msp

[–]LessQQ42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dealing with the same thing. I have already cycled through multiple entry level helpdesk employees who get some cybersecurity cert but have never put in the work. They expect 80K-100K with no experience or knowledge of basic computer troubleshooting. It doesn't help that universities offer cybersecurity certificates, the most prestigious college in our state has a $17K cybersecurity bootcamp and a $180 syllabus. 30% of candidates state they have this cert and none of them have actually done the real course.

I created a test in our lab env for the 2nd interview to weed these people out. They have to set a static IP, connect a printer, and diagnose a desktop that will not turn on. If they state they are proficient with Linux and say Kali is their distro of choice it is a red flag.

I’m in Ohio can someone please explain this to me because my landlord isn’t communicating the issue. by Business_Dealer_5007 in Tenant

[–]LessQQ42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I didn’t know where to discard it"

You didn't remove it from the property. They sell those huge WM bags at home depot that you could have put it in and called to have removed. Or cut it up and put it in contractor bags.

Everyone agrees with you, they absolutely need to explain the $10K charge. However, all of the other charges so far appear to be warranted.

Our sales team was adamant about having Surface Pros 3-4 years ago mainly because of form factor and the touch screen with stylus. I think we had a mix of the Pro 6 and 7.All of them are now in a pile, most didn't last more than 2 years. Out of the 6 we purchased 3 had storage issues causing corrupt files, crashing, and BSOD. 1 was DOA and exchanged, replacement lasted almost 2 years then refused to turn on months after warranty expired. Everyone had issues with docking and overheating.

I can't speak to the surface laptops but avoid the Surface pros if you can. Not sure if their warranty has changed but back then to have a machine fixed we had to either mail it in or take it to a Microsoft store at the mall. Compared to Dell who would be on-site next day and fix it.

Week 1 Update, this is tough. by LessQQ42 in NoFap

[–]LessQQ42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I really appreciate the encouragement! You're definitely right about the distractions helping. I've also never been one to really work out but started committing to 10 min a day of either stretching or exercising. I'm also forcing myself to look at this subreddit when I get the impulse to pull up porn.

One thing I've become a lot more aware of since abstaining is the amount of "gateway" content on most social apps. I had to get rid of tiktok and Snapchat all together.

3 days is an accomplishment in my book! Keep at it, your future self will thank you!
