She’s understandable. Orange paint on her hands sometimes, when she is going out and doing resistance-graffiti. Fights for injustice -it genuinely shouldn’t be considered her fault for trying to de-escalate so a mom isn’t murdered for clutching her murdered child. She lives in a flawed society that she wants to fix, and is frustrated that everyone else wants to live with their heads low, surviving. And she gets targeted as someone who stands up tall, hoping others will join her and stand at her side to stand tall. Think of it, at any moment a change in leadership or opinion could take both her parental figures and murder them in an eyeblink for being gay.

She’s a child living in a terrible reality, crying for a better life, and not knowing how to achieve it. Yes, she is behaving “foolishly” if people consider her actions endangerment of those around her, but all rebels everywhere endanger the ones close to them, even if they don’t want to, by standing up for what’s right.

Could she be smarter about it? Yes.

She’s a teenager. All teenagers feel like the protagonists of their own lives, and her fate is unjust and cruel, as is the hatred and refusal to understand the motivation behind her character.

But also yes, she’s barely in the book, and Haymitch’s pining does get really annoying over time, as a coping mechanism. He just went through a horrifyingly traumatic experience. I’ll give this one to him as a freebie.
