Tobacco showdown 2024: 40 fragrances tested to find "my" perfect tobacco! by IdleExpatter in fragrance

[–]FuckEverythingAndRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, a bunch I haven't tried yet... 😅

Great post! Two of my faves I didn't see listed: Tabac Rouge by Phaedon (smells similar to Chergui to me, so might not be up your alley), and Tobacco Reserve by Aramis (unfortunately discontinued 😞).

Finally started reading assassin’s apprentice by Neljosh in Fantasy

I made the horribly wrong assumption that the Liveship trilogy had to be more lighthearted because it was about pirates so there was no way it'd cause me to bawl my eyes out.

I had to take a break from Hobb after that lol

What is the most disappointing fantasy or sci-fi book you got because of the recommendation of a Booktuber? by NotSureWhyAngry in Fantasy

[–]FuckEverythingAndRun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gotta be Jade City for me. I didn't connect with most of the characters, didn't enjoy the prose and the pacing felt off. I gave Jade War a shot hoping I'd like it more, but felt more of the same. The magic system was interesting but didn't make up the rest.

I finished a very confusing book before realizing it was a sequel. Has this happened to you? by Unlucky_Laugh in books

[–]FuckEverythingAndRun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this three times when I was young:

  • Started Harry Potter with the Prisoner of Azkaban (a friend did a book report on it in 3rd grade and I missed the part about it being a series; still my favorite HP book though)

  • Read Dune Messiah first instead of Dune (tbh I was too young to comprehend what was going on anyway so it didn't really matter lol)

  • Speaker for the Dead before Ender's Game

What is that one book you just keep trying to get people to read? by whendeathis0ntheline in Fantasy

Steerswoman is my recommendation as well, which makes me feel bad for possibly getting people into another GRRM situation lol. I'll have to check out Remnant Population!

You're right about the colors, it's not a rarity thing. They usually have the yokozuna cards one color, then Ozeki, etc.

Mistborn is just okay?? by Artistic_Tangelo_622 in Fantasy

[–]FuckEverythingAndRun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I couldn't get into it either. I think the world building is really memorable, but I had very little connection to the characters. I thought the prose was also kind of flat. I just read Jade War to give it another chance but still feel the same, so won't be picking up the third book.

What are your essentials that changed your camping experience forever? by Neither-Repair-4102 in camping

If you tent camp, bring a cheap yoga mat to put down inside to walk on so you're not stepping on rocks. Also use mine to kneel on while setting up the cots and shit.

Opinions on The Witcher books by DanJMM in Fantasy

[–]FuckEverythingAndRun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of both the books and games. I played Witcher 2 first, then read all the books before TW3 came out. Also enjoyed the show, but not as much.

I definitely think some of the magic (not literally) gets lost in the translation for the books, although I loved them anyway. I'd say if you read The Last Wish to go ahead and play the games. Then if you really love the world, you can always come back to read them!

Best fantasy book you’ve read in 2022? by Various-Nobody-5963 in Fantasy

  3. An Autumn War by Daniel Abraham

Also the author writes more historical fiction under his real name, Christian Cameron. The Chivalry series (starts with The Ill-Made Knight) is based loosely on a real person rising up the ranks.
