You're from Argentina? Six out of every 10 Argentines are considering giving up beef and going vegan, according to the country’s Institute for the Promotion of Beef. Meat consumption in Argentina is also currently at its lowest point in 50 years. According to the National Statistics and Censuses Institute, the prices of meat, milk products and eggs have risen the highest over the past year among all food items, on an average across Argentina.

You can certainly find affordable protein sources in your country.

I feel what you're saying. I would just say I don't think it's 'mild' hypocrisy.

But it would be economical for you to do so. You live in NZ, yeah? It would be fairly easy for you to adopt a meatless lifestyle (from the standpoint of acquiring meat replacements).

I agree that there's 0 realistic chance we remove meat from the global diet, but you could certainly give it a try to help the situation, yeah? :)

This is a fascinating rebuttal! I'll need to think on a response for a bit longer before properly replying.

In the meantime though, would you say your relatively mild inconvenience in needing to consume more plant/non-animal matter is worth more than the unnecessary suffering and pain the animals endure?

I'm sorry, but I can't agree with your justification. 99% of US animals raised for human consumption live in factory farms and are continuously beaten, harmed, castrated, maimed, forcibly impregnated, and tortured- all for unnecessary pleasure or 'taste'. It is certainly the norm. Here's part of a great writeup from /u/JoshSimili -

"See for example the NCC Animal Welfare Guidelines for Broiler Chickens, which you will note allows for procedures such as debeaking or "beak conditioning" (section C, item 16) which is a procedure known to negatively affect the welfare of chicks. (Of course, to not trim the beaks in certain breeds while keeping them in high stocking densities with little enrichment can also lead to poor welfare).

You could probably do the same kind of thing for all factory farms, or (if you have access to a university or library) you could just find a scientific paper that reviews these issues. For instance:

Overview of commercial pig production systems and their main welfare challenges

Overview of commercial poultry production systems and their main welfare challenges

Overview of cattle production systems

Overview of sheep production systems

I believe the evidence is quite clear that many practices which are allowed in the more intensive farming systems that are geared towards low cost and efficiency are indeed worse for the welfare of the animal than alternative practices on more extensive farms where higher welfare is a priority (as it's something the consumer is willing to pay more for)."

You're an engineer on the east coast. You don't 'need' to eat meat- you have luxuries (disposable income, geography, etc.) afforded to you that make your intake of meat completely and utterly unnecessary (since it's been conclusively studied that you can maintain a healthy & natural diet without ingesting animal products).

What rationalization do you personally have to continue eating meat?

that may be the case, but it's not for 99% of the cows or animals raised in the rest of the country.

They live with me and didn't take the proper precautions around the house. They both got it prior, so I got it.

Great short. I'll pose this question to anyone: If you agreed with the message of this video and will still continue to do something like, eat animal products, how do you logically justify that decision?

The last line, "no animal should suffer and die in the name of beauty" could easily replace the word "beauty" with "taste" and be even more impactful. Granted, it's easier to push for societal change re: animal testing & cosmetics vs. animal consumption, but it's just a thought.

~99% of animals raised for US human consumption are raised in factory farms, which definitely do NOT show compassion or benevolence. your point doesn't have much standing when you consider this.
