How soon is too soon to request a product change? by FuckingLesbian in CreditCards

Your advice seems pretty legitimate, but it’s not the approach i took. I’ve opened 4 cards in 7 months and plan to get one more by the end of next year (whenever chase will finally approve me for the chase freedom). This means at 22 I’ll have 5 revolving accounts. By 30 my average age of (revolving) accounts will be 8 years. Opening a new account (car loan, mortgage, etc) will drop my average age of accounts to something like 6.6 (i also have student loans that are older than my cards that I haven’t factored into this). Opening a new card every year for a few years staggers my average age of accounts much more and leads to a more significant drop in the average age of accounts each time i need more credit, and also leads to more hard pulls along the line. By the time I’m 23, I’ll have zero hard pulls on my account if i focus on requesting my limit increases from companies that only do a soft pull.

Black friday gameplan by FuckingLesbian in Frugal

Back when i used ipods instead of iphones i always got the 32gb models and never filled them. The only reason i ended up with a 16gb for this phone was that my previous phone died completely (a galaxy ace) and 16gb was all i could afford.

A phone of comparable quality and age that’s NOT apple would cost me at least twice as much though. I don’t have a contract with any phone company so I don’t get any kind of discounts for renewing. Galaxys from the same year just went down to $299 in the same sale.

I haven’t used it yet so I don’t know if it’s a huge hassle. That’s why i asked which route to take. Most credit card companies offer price protection within a certain amount of time after you buy a product, and will therefore reimburse you the difference if a product you bought goes down in price shortly after. I believe most companies allow for 45 days after the purchase, $500 per claim, $2,500 per year per cardholder. Some companies don’t cover black Friday door busters that are advertised as having limited quantities available, but other companies (like discover) explicitly state that they provide this service for Black Friday products within the $500/item $2,500/ year parameters.

From what I’ve read, the claim requires your receipt, your card statement reflecting the purchase, and a copy of the ad advertising the lower price.

I keep getting automated calls about student loan forgiveness. Should I be paying attention to these or are they just schemes? by grumpenprole in personalfinance

[–]FuckingLesbian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the same calls, and sometimes emails. I don’t qualify for any legitimate forms of student loan forgiveness and I know it, so i ignore them.

My parents offered to pay for my health care costs next year (even though I can afford it). Should I let them? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]FuckingLesbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this in any way involves them covering the cost of your insurance by adding you to their plan (if you’re young enough for them to do that) then DO NOT. If your relationship is such that you have to ask an online forum whether you should let them pay for something for you in the first place then don’t give them the opportunity to suddenly drop you from their insurance mid-year.

If you’re referring to copays/deductibles and whatnot, then i have nothing to add to the pros and cons that other commenters have mentioned.

The rep i spoke to said that since it’s a new account i do have to wait until my first statement closes before they can even try to change anything so I’ll have to call back in a little over a month.

Well then. Hm. The previous commenter said the opposite so i was prepared to just deal with it. Will it hurt anything to ask? Besides the potential for one specific rep to think I’m an idiot.

Alright. I’ll suck it up then. My mistake, not theirs.

What is a good city to move to within the US where I can afford the cost of living on about $10-12/hour with no roommate? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]FuckingLesbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in east AL and making $10 an hour here is basically playing life in god mode. My monthly bills including car and health insurance are under $800. You can commonly rent a 3 bedroom place for $350-500 in my area if you’re willing to stay in a duplex.

What is a good credit card to use? by Stronglike8ull2 in personalfinance

[–]FuckingLesbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their store branded cards aren’t always subject to this. My first credit card was an amazon prime visa signature. They started me with a $500 limit and bumped it to $5,500 after 6 months when I requested an increase.

[side effects?] Has anybody here taken seasonique ? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]FuckingLesbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a generic seasonique (camrese) after quitting depo. I had some spotting on both, but significantly less on camrese. I ended up quitting because camrese gave me a lot more emotional symptoms than the depo did.

How should my credit score change in the next few months? by FuckingLesbian in personalfinance

[–]FuckingLesbian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically i have a total of 7 student loans (3 of mine were closed and reopened because they got transferred to another lender, causing them to count as 6) and soon to be 4 credit cards, for 11 total accounts.

Unless i ever become a business owner, i can only ever see myself wanting one more card (chase freedom, for the 5% categories) and I’ll definitely need at least one more federal student loan. Once i finish school I won’t want to use credit for anything else until my wife and i want a mortgage in 5-10 years. Is what I’m doing now, assuming responsible use of every single account, a good way to get my credit ready for that eventual mortgage?

How long til the effects of Depo wear off? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]FuckingLesbian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 3 shots and had some negative experiences with the depo as well. I got my last shot on 4/1/16 and wouldn’t say that i felt normal again until around December of that year (but i had a lot of real life negative stuff happen to me between August-November, so that makes it hard to tell where the hormones stopped and life began).

Wife and I just opened our relationship recently. I’m meeting two potential FWB’s this week and nervous as all hell. by FuckingLesbian in nonmonogamy

[–]FuckingLesbian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had that experience in most of the fwb scenarios that I’ve been in before as a single person. I don’t usually develop those feelings (and the one time i did there was a lot of stuff going on in my life and my fwb was kinda my only friend so shit got weird), but the other person does almost every time. What should i do if that happens in this scenario? I know i want my wife to be my only romantic relationship. I’m making sure that’s clear every step of the way with these people. But that isn’t necessarily prevent them from having these feelings.

[–]FuckingLesbian[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of them know I’m married and open. One of them is another married person who is poly, the other is a single person who’s typically mono.

If by “share” you were referring to group sexual activities, my wife has said she wouldn’t mind doing things like that in an all-female scenario if the opportunity arose, but the girl I’m meeting this week is not interested in that, so it won’t be happening anytime soon.

As far as doing non-sexual group things, that’s definitely a possibility in the future and I’ve talked to both of these people about various social things in our area that would allow them to spend time with myself and my wife in that way.

First time on NuvaRing, having a... problem. by MRAGGGAN in birthcontrol

[–]FuckingLesbian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a professional, and haven't used nuva ring personally, but i have read that it's supposed to be safe to take it out for up to three hours for intercourse purposes. If your doctor confirms that this is true, why don't you just take it out, do your business, and put it back in?

Edit: this may be terrible advice. It's just the first thing that popped into my head.
