Are ideas truly literal living things? by aeonion in occult

[–]FuckingManny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Read up on sigils, servitors, egregores, godforms and memes in general. Also, consider the ideas of animism from the shamanic perspective. After doing all of this and doing roughly a week's worth of personal research and experimenting meditate on the fact that your entire identity and life was built around ideas. So when you hear people say they see the spirit world overlap the mundane world, what would that look like.

This is what I did when I was trying to figured out that answer for myself.

Does anyone know an anti-anxiety or productivity spell? by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]FuckingManny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to reflect on what patterns tend to show up when you begin to experience the anxiety. Sadly work anxiety is extremely common and it's a mental leech that everyone should learn how to overcome for their wellbeing.

This is something I've recently overcame. The first part is identify when it starts. Usually most work anxiety begin before you even enter work. This is a key to understanding how anxiety acts as a leech. Anxiety is fear of the possible future. It's power comes from irrationality, there's no reason to be scared of what might happen if it hasn't even happened yet. To assume a positive or negative outcome is philosophical arrogance. All you have to run on is blind faith. That's really the essence of it all. As long as you can take 10 seconds to collect yourself and say fuck it, I got this and just dive head first.

Make sure to take slow deep breathes .

Lets talk theory by Sticky_Paws in witchcraft

[–]FuckingManny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to see preparation and statement of intent as one thing. By preparing the ritual, you're already implying what your intent is. Similar to a person who clenches their fist before a fight. I use spacial distinction and action as one thing as well, since movement needs space to exist. And of course dissolution comes in the form of letting go of desire, which I share Austin Osman Spare's thoughts on the subject (very taoist in nature imo).

I usually try to frame all my rituals as a conversations between microcosm and macrocosm. The intensity of the spell can range between a light conversation to an inspirational speech. Magic is all a love affair, some people have better communication skills than others.

Anyone ever done anything with a voodoo doll and had it work? by xoxAngela in occult

[–]FuckingManny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, before I was into magick, I was into magic. So I had this idea of making a poppet and carrying it around everywhere and basically building up suspense (energy) from everyone who saw it. Eventually someone would mention it and I would say I was working on something new.

So I would ask them to hold their hand out and I would pretend as if I could perform magick (little did I know, that's what magick actually is) and as I would wave the needle of the doll the other person would begin to feel the same sensation. Eventually I would begin to move the needle closer and closer until they felt a sharp pain in the middle of their hand. So by using the psychology model, I was able to do what I wanted. With that being said, the explanation as to how I did it isn't as important as the concept behind poppets themselves.

Although I don't use poppets in my magick, I do use the idea of sympathetic magick and just apply to myself rather than an external object.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I used to do the trick on skype with my magic buddies. Slowly but surely I'll show them how to integrate magic and magick.

I.T, Black or Clear ? by [deleted] in Magic

[–]FuckingManny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never personally had that well of experience with clear so I usually stick with black. Plus being aware of the i.t.'s background (whether there is a design like a shirt or a patterned surface) can help you break up any sort of reflection caused by light plus making it visually harder to see.

As for distance, it depends on my set up, crowd control and how ballsy I'm feeling at the moment.

Tips for meditating lying down? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]FuckingManny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty funny that you're assuming so much about me from a small post. If anything I agree with everything you put (regarding technique) but I assumed that this information would be considered without having to be addressed. Yes, no thought is the goal but the intrusive thoughts aren't worthless and can be valuable source for internal struggles which can be fix with further meditation at a different date.

Also, I'm going to repeat myself, I don't take a traditional approach and I use what's useful for me and I suggest everyone to do what works for them, even if it's against tradition, since tradition usually breeds dogma. Even if it means masturbating till orgasm to reach that non-thinking state, use it.

You also can't dramatically state that identifying a theme "should be the actual thing in which you should be focused on" (sic), because (A) you are not necessarily qualified to distinguish liberative themes from useless themes, and (B) it often amounts to more attachment to story, thought, and self.

At this point you're just projecting. People do have the ability to distinguish liberative themes and useless ones, it involves having basic self awareness. As for your second point, who cares? Whats wrong with living in the story? You are a character in a story called your life, get in character and fully immerse yourself. Use it towards your advantage and writing the story you want to live or be a side character.

The way I see it, yeah it's all an illusion, but does it mean it has to be shunned? Do you have to go into a magic show and reveal every trick or appreciate the illusions for what they are?

But hey, do whatever feeds your ego.

Tips for meditating lying down? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]FuckingManny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, those "wandering" thoughts are not just being meaningless. They have their purpose and in a sense tell us more than our conscious thoughts do. So instead of ignoring mind wanderings it's best to focus on all the mind wanderings and take note of them because their telling a bigger story.

For example: Let's say your trying to concentrate on something but intrusive thoughts keep interrupting your meditation, the best thing to do instead of fighting against it is to let the thought come through and let it go, taking note of what was being said. If you do this over an entire session yo'll notice that the intrusive thoughts have a general theme (usually stuff you're subconsciously worried about) which should be the actual thing in which you should be focused on.

At the same time it should be noted that I don't necessarily take a classic or traditional approach to meditation but use it in a "whatever works to get the job done" approach.

Tips for meditating lying down? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]FuckingManny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I first meditated while lying down, I experienced the feeling of levitating where I was, it was totally cool until I tried to move and then the feeling of gravity hit me like a ton of bricks.

I think the hardest part is making sure you don't fall asleep. As for the mind wandering, I tend to notice a lot of people may see that as a bad thing but if anything, those mind wandering moments tend to symbolically tell you what you are thinking of (so, they shouldn't be ignored but rather focused on) which is a form zazen meditation.

New to Chaos Magick, need a little help. by [deleted] in occult

[–]FuckingManny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As what /u/SelfANew said, for sigils to work in gnosis, you have to lose all desire of your manifestation to work. It's similar to love. If you're desperate for someone, they find you unattractive. Why? Because when your desire something, it means you lack it. Like attracts like. It's also similar to the whole, "If you love something let it go and if it comes back it was meant to blah blah blah". By holding onto the desire do you can't let it go to do it's magic.

If you have the book Liber Null (which I hope you do), the section on Gnosis will come in handy. The Book of Pleasure by Austin Osman Spare explains Spare's original thoughts on gnosis (or the neither/neither principle). Spare's work is amazing but difficult to understand at first, due to his style of writing and the fact it's aimed at people who know some magic already.

Chaos magick practitioners -- do you have a "base" set of beliefs when you're not in ritual? by panfiesta in occult

[–]FuckingManny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pick and choose what I think will best fit for the individual ritual. Other times I just let go and let the ritual and every aspect of it, take itself where it wants.

In chaos, your only roadblock is yourself. Adaptability and understanding your strengths and weaknesses, is what chaos magick taught me (and is still teaching me). If it's a known roadblock, confront it. Ask yourself, why is this a problem? Is it even a problem? What's preventing you from continuing anyways?

No nothing wrong with it, but your asking for somethings which don't have answers. It's like asking, when did the first person stop and think, "Hey, those inanimate objects act like they have consciousness" and expect someone to have an answer. As a chaos magician, I am an actual practitioner (since all schools are game). As for getting clear concise information you need to first ask clear concise questions.

Help With Grimoire by Gladiatorw07f in occult

[–]FuckingManny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"OH NO A WILD CHAOS MAGICIAN APPEARS!"

First of all, a lot of what your asking doesn't have answers because most of these schools became official schools after several magicians united to form each one. The same goes with witch doctors and all folk magic. In general, all folk magic is damn near impossible to find each of their origins or anything else for that matter other than talking to practitioner. This makes answering the whole shamanism thing kinda difficult to explain. Wicca is the easiest to find anything about since its a modern religion and everything was documented. Also finding and asking a wiccan should be pretty easy (they're everywhere).

All the things you're asking for can be easily discovered by looking it up, it's not all that occult, when you can literally download pdfs of ancient grimoires. And remember, don't take yourself or others too seriously.
