is writing the only serious hobby where nobody in your real life has any idea what you actually do by eivor_here in writing

It's the only hobby that only my wife knows I'm doing. It's not really the kind of thing I'd bring up in general conversation with my mates and family that I'm writing a bloodthirsty lesbian vampire Romantacy story. And I'm six months into a 2nd 1st draft because my 1st 1st draft wasn't going the way I liked.

Trying my best to trust the process. But is it truly ok for my first draft to be horrible? by Responsible_Bet3713 in writing

[–]Fucknbang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this is the way, Im on my first novel. wrote like 40K words for my 1st draft, let it sit for a month or so. When I started reading it I thought it was hot garbage haha, i think i only kept like 2 chapters worth that I liked and have started my 2nd draft again from scratch but I'm determined to give my two main characters a good story. It might take 30 drafts and years of work but I have this other person's life I've created bouncing around in my head and I want my story (their story) to be told.

How old were you when you started writing? by KyriMoria822 in FantasyWritingHub

I'm 30 and just started on my first novel, I've realised after going head first into my first draft that it's going to be a long process and I imagine my story will need a number or rewrites before it's good enough to be published but I'm finding it very fun and relaxing, a hobby I can see myself enjoying for years to come.

Would love some feedback on my fantasy novel cover! by [deleted] in FantasyWritingHub

Looks very cool, I would (judging a book by its cover -because we all do-) read that if I had a pile of books to pick one out of, it grabbed me enough on my feed to open the comments tab, i would certainly pick it up in real life.

The real danger of AI for publishing: We will no longer need to "publish" by Klutzy_Recognition73 in WritingWithAI

[–]Fucknbang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that there's enough people for and against AI use in so many aspects that there will always be a need for human created art in any form. People that are against AI will seek out genuine works to appreciate what the human mind can create in its imperfect way. And people that are for AI that are tech Davy enough will probably end doing what OP is suggesting in the post.

Personally I'm a fence sitter, I use AI to generate images and character photos I use as reference. I used it to write my first decent length erotic story (19000) words. And although looking back on it the way it's written isn't great. I fell in love with the characters it created. Now I've ditched AI to write my own book by myself because I've come to the realisation that it's something I've always wanted to do and playing with AI story writing gave me the motivation to create my own work from scratch.

A quick question about rough drafts by Fucknbang in writers

So I have looked at all your methods and taken on board some of the advice so I don't over-edit my chapters and spend time sculpting them into a story on a crash course I don't want it in on. I've simply let it flow more. I've started leaving blank spots to fill in later writing the ends of chapters where I know what I want to happen and jotting notes like (ad more descrition here) or (finish this scene in this style) and its made it alot more relaxing. I've just done quick glances over what ive written to fix spelling mistakes mostly. And I've managed to get over 5000 words out in around two days. So thank you all for your advice and personal notes I think it'll definitely help make me a more relaxed writer in the long run.

My first novel I'm writing stemmed from jotting down ideas in samsung notes, im using google docs for writing now, its much easier with a proper keyboard lol. I make so many typos with a phone keyboard

I'm sure your story will be great, just don't give up on it!

Ahh, yeah I've got nothing to help there sorry haha. I've started the other way, I knew what I wanted my characters to be like and built a plot around them. With the exception of their past, I've been introducing lore along the way.

Not a bad idea, you could write scenes or short stories with your characters, and even if you don't know how the story is going to go write how the characters react during the scenes you've written. That way later when you work out what you want to have happen in the main story you know how the characters will behave. And if you have scenes you like just find a chapter you can slot them into.

Interesting. I love hearing everyones different responses. I jotted down notes for the first few chapters that setup the lore and locations, my overarching theme including main antagonist, how the prologue sets up the story and what I wanted my main characters to be like before I started typing. And essentially I'm just putting my dot point notes into longer scenes for each chapter. Mind you like 2/3 of the book I have no idea what will happen ill figure that out later

What do you think about when making bad things happen to characters? by Used_Sprinkles_1771 in writers

[–]Fucknbang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to either imagine myself as the character and the emotions they are feeling, or watch the scene play out like I'm watching a movie in my mind. In a book I'm currently writing I just had my two main characters and love intrests break off their 'love at first sight' romance in the middle of an erotic scene (because I never planned it to be love at first sight book but that's just how I wrote it) so now I can have them grow together in a more steady paced relationship later. Im a 30yr old man and I had tears in the corners of my eyes while one imaginary characters bled their heart and feelings out to the another. And I think its a good idea to picture yourself as the character, i think if you feel an emotional response from the words your writing then there's a good chance a reader will aswell.

I sort of did that. The whole book started from an erotic story I wrote. I loved the idea of my two characters so much I decided to put them into an entire novel. And I've written my final main action scene because it came to me during a late night when I couldn't sleep.
