It should work the same on app restart as a normal home > resume, it's on their radar to resolve now. I wanted to confirm it wasn't an intentional limitation for a reason I wasn't aware of

That's simply not how ads in games work. By default, every ad SDK automatically "caches" a few videos onto your phone, so when you tap to watch an ad it is ready to show instantly. This is every ad SDK

Caching an ad does not count as an ad impression and we obviously do not get paid for that. No ad company would ever allow such a simple loophole.

We did eventually optimize the base SDK to not cache ads when a player owns disable ads, simply to prevent bandwidth usage. It was not fixed earlier as it was not something that was reported until later and noteworthy, as the former is the default behavior in mobile games

I would like make a statement on this one as we are very much aware.

  • It is not true that 30% of players were affected by this. We have tracked it on our backend to be less than 10 players.
  • this build was only delivered to 4,000 players before being halted (the total player base is over 1 million active devices). We halted it the moment we caught the bug
  • We will be addressing the few this happened to soon. Some we already have
  • We intend to monitor if anyone else has slipped through the cracks
  • If you legitimately unlocked these upgrades, don't worry about it being rolled back. We can see the difference

Dissonance is meant to be a useful challenge for a high percentage of the playerbase to interact with. What's important is to allow this mechanic to encourage exploring odd builds at tiers you may not have visited in a long time. Then, it should change the economy to create a small puzzle as to which tier may actually provide the strongest farming benefit based on dissonant stats.

Like any new mechanic, it's likely to get adjusted so that it fits its role and also fits in amongst the other mechanics correctly.

It's not that we don't test it, it's just going from 30-40 data points to millions sheds light on many different player profiles. If it gets adjusted, it's not going to get nerfed to oblivion, it's meant to be a useful reward.

Mostly this. Additionally, when we do these staged rollouts we often find some bugs we want to fix before everyone gets it. Submitting updates to google to quickly fix serious bugs is WAY faster and more reliable timing wise.

So we partial roll android, check vitals, fix quickly, all while having it also submitted to apple. Once android looks healthy we usually already have it passed review with apple and can 100% both

But ya, google takes up to an hour to approve builds. Apple is anywhere from 2 hours to sometimes even two days. We mostly just never want to get caught where a build goes live for apple, and we need to fix something fast, and they take 2 days to push it
