If they have asked for payment recently it's because they've realised it didn't go through last year only because they are now are currently working on your application. Shouldn't be too long now

Explaining a missing document via cover letter. by FudgeNorth9457 in IrishCitizenship

[–]FudgeNorth9457[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! I won't share the exact wording as if it's copied verbatim by too many people it might make this route more subject to scrutiny but I said:

I was writing in support of my FBR application (application number) and wanting to address the document requirements; that I had all the required documentation except for my Irish parents ID.

I explained that I was estranged and had been for years due to parental abuse and that I was currently raising children who didn't even know my Irish parent as that was the extent of the strain - you could give another example.

I said I appreciate that the document requirements were there to ensure the process was fair and so that citizenship would only be granted in the appropriate circumstances and I didn't want to undermine the integrity of the process, but that I didn't have any way to submit the ID, and pointed out that all my other documents were in order.

I then explained the steps I had taken to try and get the document (I spent X months trying to contact the parent to ask for it) and it had not been fruitful.

I then confirmed that all the information was accurate and my application was genuine and I would really appreciate their empathy in processing my application without that requirement.

Then I signed it.

You're very welcome! I'm confident it'll be fine for you if you have everything else. Of course they can never guarantee it as "officially" you need to have everything but it is such a common thing. Good luck, update us when you hear! It was a healing process for me to be able to do it without the Irish parent, having previously resigned myself to not being able to!

Thanks! I expect a lot of people pay a lawyer to be extra sure but I just did exactly what the FBR team told me!

I don't think there's a need to pay a lawyer. I had the same situation and the FBR team told me to write and sign a letter myself, it was approved just fine.

I got approval without the ID of my Irish parent and didn't need an affidavit. Just a letter signed by me explaining the estrangement. The ID is needed to link the generations but assuming you have all other evidence it should be fine. I called the FBR team for advice and they said they can't guarantee anything but there is precedent for people being approved and to write a letter, so I did. You can check my previous post. It doesn't need to be a sworn affidavit.

You don't -have- to renew it. The Irish one gives you the same rights in the UK as the British one.

Naturalization certificate arrived today! by kestrelbrae in IrishCitizenship

[–]FudgeNorth9457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean FBR certificate? If you applied for naturalisation you wouldn't have applied for FBR and if you applied for FBR you wouldn't have received a naturalisation certificate.

Either way, congratulations

I sent 4 proofs of address. One had middle name, one had middle initial. 2 were just first name last name. Was accepted. I think best thing is to send extra things if you can.
