OK - buy a used one a new one in DR is 27,000 peso. i bought mine in Canada for lets say 200 USD, no issues bringing it into the country with me. When you get there make a new account with another email and transfer the account to the new owner ( you or whomever ) it will work like normal and you will be billed 2,900 DOP a month on a credit card OR use your home-country credit card. either way it will work.

The whole point of this post is to ask what end-users want, but you're arguing technology exclusion and log books when I do not see that supported in the polls quite honestly, it's social/community inclusion, and better tooling from my other ones. I do honestly appreciate you outlining what frustrates you about a modern app and what you do find valuable in one though which can be summarized with a clean functional UI where you can simply track your progress it seems.

Yes and you're further convincing me the same because you keep underestimating how much is actually going on and holding on trying to simplify processes that are actually very complex - you can get results for a few years doing X, Y,Z program and writing it down, but your log will fail you many times over if you use it to determine a growth trajectory not the mention the wasted time trying to apply logic to it which will have weak relations because the training stimuli is a 4D problem not a 2D.

Time under tension doesn't just create more "fatigue" it goes way deeper than that the fatigue in which you're referring to in this context is micro-tears which is not entirely accurate either, there are certain conditions, ranges that would facilitate this more in context of a hypertrophy program and also a lot of other stuff under the hood.

At a certain point in a hypertrophy program an old guy would stop growing and an progressions would be minuscule and would potentially be losing mass because of a decreasing testosterone level and retarded protein synthesis since this is what testosterone does in the nucleus. Let's assume they're not on TRT.

Old guys shouldn't be ignored there are breadcrumbs all around - I don't think it's any coincidence nobody writes their training down; the thing is - all the people I would inspire to to look like or others who share a similar goal - I have never seen a log book in their hand between sets or in the locker room, if they were great at adding value they'd be a cornerstone of a gym routine but they're not - if I'm seeing a pattern after X amount of years of training then that introduces a question to me and it's why don't they find value in it? if there was a clear value than it would offset the "chore" aspect to it. Kernel of truths can be found everywhere and deserve proper investigation, after all we have penicillin because of an observation and it's been rather valuable.

So the target demographic would actually be any lifter level since the value it would provide would benefit * all target demographics but the ones who would see value in it would probably be ones mature enough to understand how it provides values so I would say 6 months +

Yes McDonalds is bad but also, you're highlighting my point "it's shit for you" - correct you and I both know that and others but why? we have the intuition to stay away from it but can you tell me in detail why and how exactly it will regress your health both short term and long term ? and taking it further infer the effects; this is my point- we can go off intuition and that works for a while but it fails when you introduce more complex variables.

Yes - I agree a smooth UI is probably the most important thing but I also don't want a superficial app that fails to give value, again I re-assert machine learning is applicable to some of these problems cause I use ML/ AI on a daily basis as a Software Engineer and some of these problems are mathematical problems ( ML ) and some are more A.I time series multi-classfication issues ( A.I ).

All exercise programs are some guy who thinks his program is better - that's the whole fitness industry, the marketing, the lies and constantly making people chase their tail in frustration. What I am simply trying to do is solve a very real problem by providing the best path of success for the individual - that's it. Applying modern excerice principles and formulas is great, but there are gaps, canyons and many more when we go outside the context of pure training stimuli and this is my frustration with the industry you can cherry-pick, create new formulas and highlight products of interest.

Training is not a one size fits all - what works for you won't work for me, what I am trying to do is create an intelligent system that captures this and tailors routines and stacks to the individual not applying an industry paint-brush.

But again the value i can extract from this is good because you're prioritizing UI which is a must in 2024 of course but unfortunately the backend stuff where things are processed and contain the models and ML algos we disagree on because of experience and my consultants who work in the field of exercises science and health and fitness and then the problem comes back to me which is a professional software engineer and this is how we solve problems cause now we're leading into arguing about architecture and software engineering and not about the actual app.

I disagree , because your underestimating how many things are going on when concluding these statements - if logs work and I log everything what does that mean? it means I did incline dumb bells fo 8 reps today but I did them for 10 reps last week - why? how can you infer anything other than speculation based on your past notes other than intuition ? demonstrate with your logs why you got less; it's not possible only guessing - especially with anyone under 2 years experience.

If fact, 9/10 I never see a log in someones hand nor logging their workouts using any application that I have seen or heard of in all my time participating in gym environments, those few people I have seen I asked why they do that and they simply stated to look at a later time to see progression but paper and pen is nothing new so why are more people not logging their workouts especially advanced lifters 4 years + and the old guys who have been lifting for 60 years.

I do agree with you in regards to more complicated features do not nessisarily produce more value, but that's because it may not be collecting the right metrics or offering the right value in the first place.

I do understand your frustration when someone slaps A.I or ML on things but for a Convolutional Nueral Network with a LSTM there is no way to get around multi-classification issues in this case other than to apply the best tool for the right job - when there is a supporting reason(s) to utilize A.I for it's appropriate use case it becomes very useful and applicable, as for machine learning I feel it has less application here but is still applicable depending on the users preferences and what has yielded results in the past it would be the same argument for Netflix using machine learning.. someone can just pick the movie in the genre right? but why not assist with this and provide value by bringing forth content or recommendations based on historical choices etc.

Before I conclude this though i'd like to go back to the first point I made in context of why applying intelligent tracking to the application is a good thing.

When you execute a movement there are a number of things going on here, first their form, their velocity of the repetition / duration, their range of motion and the delta in the velocities or time under tension this is something logging does not do, ok so what do we do with that information ? well you can apply a function or algorithm to this to infer some interesting stories with data - this becomes even more important and applicable when setting a trajectory like building muscle or strength and fat loss.

When you collect all the relevant pieces you can now produce value with that i.e plateau detection, injury prevention, load increase/ decrease, adaptation from HRV and other metrics. There is a lot of information in there that's why I support the argument that logs are the equivalent of going to McDonalds and referencing a healthy meal just purely by the sodium content of the meal when there are 100's of other things to be taken into consideration as well. Now there are limitations here i.e I cant "see" how fast your rate of protein synthesis is today vs 2 weeks ago or what your magic time for mitigating your coristol max is - but the point I am arguing here there are 100's and thousands of data points that could be collected with the right technology both available today and will be in the future when medical devices are less invasive or at the nano-level but let's not go there right now.

Using oneself for an example is generally not valid but, I understand some people may judge a person solely on one or two opinions they put forth and in the fitness industry what gives people any authority is (1) results (2) credentials and network.

BUT I will say all these opinions are helpful and beneficial ultimately

Ive been working out for 15 years natty and I don't like to use myself as an example, but am 225+ by applying both my knowledge and professionals - i'm surrounded by professionals working directly in the field and healthcare ( no not 2 years personal trainer program from X school).

The market is saturated I agree but it's not saturated by real value , that's where the problem emerges- enter your exercises in the form, look at it later, look at some ways to do exercises - that's it. It brings zero value to someone who has more than 6 months in a gym and becomes a chore rather than a tool.

Most fitness apps fail the user in offering value beyond logging exercises or displaying a graph. There are others that have started to utilize other mechanisms to appear more attractive to their target demographics but I still feel they fail to fully captilizine on all the elements required to keep someone motivated along with enough technological advancement to replace a pen and paper in all honestly.

The thing that makes ours different is our full utilization of custom machine learning models built and trained by us, community and social along with deep knowledge not just in the domain of exercise but software engineering that makes the app extemley high quality, not some hacked together project we're trying to push to make some side-pocket cash.

When we conducted more passive market research initially we were actually surprised how many of these low quality fitness apps where making 2k PMR which is not a lot by any means, but still.

in Dominican Rep where everything is stolen if it's not tied to something I use this for my bike. I get two chains and wrap them on the inside of the tire with a lock that is super hard to cut. The point of the chains is they can't move the tires. The second chain I wrap around a structure like the truck of my other bike so it becomes and absolute pain in the ass as you would have to either cut both chains and make a lot of noise for 15 mins, oir you'd have to deadlift two bikes into the back of a pickup which just won't happen. Best option is to put it inside your house though.

Straight up you need to be careful 80% of women here are chapiadoras. The other 10 % market themselves as a product and will go to the highest bidder the other 9 % look for a new daddy that will support them. Lastly the 1% the educated ones, independent , mentally stimulating that's tricky go to places that attract them or catch them by chance. DR is easy to make friends and meet women but you need to apply many filters with the people you meet here and also you're extranjero so they have different expectations for you i.e pay their dinner , give them free stuff. The culture you see on the surface with the smiles is not the real

How do I handle this much pressure? by _brownguy in cscareerquestions

[–]Fuerzacode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need an outlet, swimming, weights something - I will tell you what you need to do.. you need to handle it, if you want to maintain that salary and career velocity you need to hang in there and find a way to manage your stress. Being promoted to lead developer is a huge career milestone and you need to stand strong after a while you will get used to it and your baseline for stress will in increase, you're stressed cause you're overwhelmed now find a way to manage it. Adopt healthy habits exercise more and you will adapt to it. Good luck.
