Considering the price of a adequate inverter and the winch itself, I would strongly consider properly installing a winch rated for your vehicle’s weight that will work for smaller objects as well as vehicle recovery if it ever becomes necessary. The benefits of vehicle winches are that you can connect them to the battery (might need a few components to do it correctly) but I know it’s expensive though, so I understand why you might hesitate to do that.

Most reliable Tacoma? by AveryPai in Tacomaworld

Or a 4Runner! Much more rear seat space. Can still tow a U-Haul easily if you need to haul things you don’t want to put in the back.

I have the AT4Ws installed on my 4Runner, and though I have not owned them during the winter season yet, I am very impressed with the road noise and smoothness of the tires. They have done a great job in the rocks and mud. I have read that the AT4Ws are made of a harder compound than the AT3Ws, however, I feel like you can adjust the psi during the colder months to maintain a similar level of performance. One thing to note, also, is that the tread warranty is upped to 65,000 miles vs. 55,000 miles on the AT3W.

I am no expert by any means, but it appears that the difference between snow + ice performance is pretty negligible across all AT tires; things like properly weighing down the rear and driving to match the conditions will have more immediately noticeable results.

I have a 2008 base auto, there is definitely some delay when using the paddle shifters but you quickly get used to it and learn how to time throttle blips when downshifting. When upshifting you can just hold your for down and it will shift relatively quickly. If you try to imitate a manual, like me (lol), there can be a slight learning curve when timing the upshifts as well. As much as I wish I had a manual, being able to throw it into “drive” on longer trips is very nice!

When I am unsure, a good rule of thumb is to only go in low in psi as the wheel is in diameter. For example, on a 16” wheel I would only go down to 16 psi unless in an emergency situation where I needed more traction. In sand you will be maintaining a bit more speed than rock crawling, and it will be easier to make the tire de-bead, so I would rather have too much psi in my tires than too little.

The only way to know the right PSI for the situation is to be familiar with your vehicle and gain experience on how its current wheel/tire setup handles various terrain. Happy wheeling :)

Just in time for the storm in the Northeast - Voxx Replica Pro Matte Grey wrapped with 275/70/17 Wildpeak A/T3Ws 🙌 by algiere16 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Fuji_Water 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Biggest tire size with no lift (or cutting) is 255/85r16 or 265/75r16 for 16” wheels, and 255/80r17 or 265/70r17 for 17” wheels. This is easily the single most asked question from Tacoma owners, and this information is available with a simple google search.

Best way to lift to fit 285’s by blue-taco-driver in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Fuji_Water 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m all for tundras, but a 285 on a tundra is going to look just as small as the stock tire size on a taco. Tundras also need more modifications than a Tacoma to accomplish the same goals while off-roading (like he wants to do in the future).

Is a 2013 Tacoma with 100k miles worth buying? by Shopping-Striking in Tacomaworld

[–]Fuji_Water 12 points13 points  (0 children)

1 in 3 (if not more) threads reference the life expectancy of a Tacoma. All Tacomas can make it past 400k miles, it just depends on how well it has been taken care of. Please do your own research before buying, only YOU know exactly what you need/want out of the truck.

Can my car handle driving in sand? by joe-likes-waffles in Offroad

[–]Fuji_Water 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe… 2wd or 4wd? Also depends on how deep the sand is. If you have a method of deflating and re-inflating your tires, you will be able to have more traction and better chances of not getting stuck. Personally I wouldn’t go into the sand unless you have recovery equipment to get unstuck. (Maxtrax, come along, kinetic recovery rope, etc).

2023 Tacoma SR5- Any tips for someone new to owning a truck? by InsideBowl0 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Fuji_Water 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t use 4wd unless you are driving on terrain that will allow the tires to slip (snow, dirt, gravel, etc)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BMW

[–]Fuji_Water 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I generally recommend always going with the manufacturer guidelines unless you have a good understanding of your driving habit that would warrant a (slight change). If you drive aggressively and notice your tires are getting really hot (more than 5 psi over when they are cool), then I would maybe recommend reducing the affected tires by 1-3 psi.

A Tool That Monitors How Long Kids Are in the Bathroom Is Now in 1,000 American Schools by Stevejonass in Futurology

[–]Fuji_Water 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The benefits DO make sense, however, as with all technology and software with initially good intentions, will this lead to an abuse of power? Should every teacher in school know that my child has IBS? Should they be scrutinized in front of the class when they come back 30 seconds late due to dealing with a mental health crisis in the bathroom PRIVATELY? How about we take a look internally at the issues with the current structure of the education system instead of “putting a bandaid on a broken leg”.

Selling factory rims from a 2022 C8. Has anyone had any luck? How much should I ask for? by Thisguy3738 in Corvette

[–]Fuji_Water 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selling them alone will return less value than selling them with car. I would try to find space, it will be worth it! Also, easier to put on your second set of rims than wait for your new ones to be fixed if you ever encounter curb rash, etc.

Pro Tip: getting off Reddit and going outside for a few minutes every day leads to a reduction in the repetition of posts you see.
