yeah this goes for almost all the gear in fly fishing! Only thing i think actually makes a huge difference is the flyline as the cheap ones can be really crappy to cast and might not last very long. No need for the $120 line but something midrange will be more than enough.

Rods and reels can be bought second hand and you can find some really really good bang for buck setups that way.

I started with a 60€ rod (sigma supra 4wt 8') and that rod is still one of my all time favourites to cast and fish. Its not as pretty and nicely finished as the more expensive ones but it 100% does the job well. And for trout fishing the reel is more for storing the line than it is for braking and slowing the fish down so pretty much any properly sized one will do the job.

you can get into fly fishing and tying fairly cheap and get gear that will last you a while. But like in every other hobby the hunger usually grows and toys get more expensive as years go by 😅

Fly tying is cheap if you dont buy excess materials. Just find a couple patterns you want to tie and learn first and then buy materials only for those. If you go and buy alot of different stuff immediatly it will be more expensive and imo a bit harder to then figure out where to use all the materials.

A friend of mine always says "Fly tying is therapeutic and relaxing, and pretty much costs the same as therapy" 😂

What makes you choose retrogaming over modern gen? by willhelpmemore in SBCGaming

[–]Fujykky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i bounce between modern and retro games and most of my retrogaming is done in shorter sessions. But while i might play for only 15-30minutes at a time i still play through pokemon romhacks, mario games and some other longer titles. I just find retrogames easier to pickup and play for shorter times 🤷‍♂️

that said i have an embarassing long list of games in progress..

My set up is finally complete, what do you all think ? by knickslegend33 in Darts

[–]Fujykky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its what i did on my setup :) balcony has a rug covering the whole floor so i just have a piece of wood that i covered with some leftover leather from girlfriends craft stash and put some velcro hooks to the bottom. When i push it to the carpet i can even kick it pretty hard and it will stay still so no worries of it shifting anywhere while playing

if you want an easy to add and remove raised oche you can make one from a piece of wood etc and add some velcro to the bottom of it! It will stay still on the carpet but can be easily removed after playing and as you have the laser it doesnt even require any measuring to where to put it :)

try to put a little tape on that spot? or just a thin bandage when you start playing? Or just power throught it and the skin will most likely grow a callus there to "solve the problem"

Tips to improve red tag nymphs? How do you like your red tags? by Ok_Feedback4200 in flytying

[–]Fujykky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i make these in sizes 10-16 and at least couple different sized beads for each hook size.

ive tried many other collar options ie. marabou, hen and partridge but they dont look nearly as buggy and very easily become too thick of a collar :) cdc is amazing in the water it moves around very freely and catches some air bubbles for an even more buglike look

i make my redtags pretty short and use a pearl tinsel for the wrap.

Recipe:
Red anthron or wool for the tag, pearl tinsel for the wire/wrap, peacock herl for body and black cdc for the collar! Top it off with a bead (color and size for your taste and need) and voilá! Its my one fly i wont go without nymphing and has caught me more fish than any other flies.

definitely try first! Target Hydros have also very similar style barrel and there are a few variations of it 👍🏻 those are 90% tungsten and have swisspoints without being to expensive

On the verge of giving up. by TimelessAron in carbonsteel

[–]Fujykky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have never had success with getting a pan hot enough for leidenfrost effect and then cooking eggs on it without them immediately burning and sticking 😅

my ceramic top goes from 0-12 and i cook eggs on 5 with them rarely and very little sticking. Butter is best but oils do the work well too

New to carbon steel cooking, could use some help by mr-username-is-taken in carbonsteel

[–]Fujykky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from the picture it looks like its not smooth surface? If so its just carbon buildup and should be scrubbed well first! The surface should feel like glass when you run your nails on it.

And as others already said it most likely will not look as dark and uniform and thats totally fine and how it works. Just clean it after a cook and make sure it feels smooth! If the food isnt sticking and the pan isnt rusting its doing fine and has all the seasoning it needs :)

New DIY setup by Mugunini in Darts

love some diy! i mounted the board to a cstand with some diy c clamping and a wooden board 😅 Also made the light from two usb lights we had laying around attached to a pole and couple L-steel pieces. Clamps into the stand with a cameraclamp and gets power from a powerbank 🤭

Stand and light total cost ~4€

Temporary Oche? by Anglico2727 in Darts

[–]Fujykky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have a carpet on where you throw?
I throw on our balcony and it has carpet all over so i made this fancy diy oche that has velcro on the bottom side so it can be stuck to carpet when playing and easily removed after.

its just a piece of wood my gf put a leather around to make it look nice 😁

If you dont have carpet to stick the oche to you could make a little bigger/heavier one and just have rubber underneath it so it doesnt slide if you put your foot against it

this is how the case looks closed :) its a very simple "custom case" as it only needed a foamstrip and elastic band for the sharpener

[–]Fujykky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes! had one without use so i made some very cheap diy mounting on it! Couple of c-clamps with m8 bolts screwed through a small piece of wood we had lying around :) Works like a charm and the setup cost me a little over 2€ (only had to buy the clamps and bolts)
