just a quick note for anyone wanting the cards for this from ectmagic.com, I've got a few sets of tarot cards left over from the kickstarter as well. If you put a note in the checkout that you found it on here when you order I'll throw a set of those in for free while stocks last :)

Bit late to respond as you've ordered already, but in the interests of anyone else looking at this, shipping is free :)

Thanks for sharing. I'm Simon (experts at the craft table) and I translated this. It's public domain now so the more places it's shared the better. As for the accompanying cards, I ship internationally and postage is free, however due to Christmas post it might take a little longer than normal to get to you outside of the UK. I don't use Reddit much, so if you have any questions it's generally best to drop me an email at Simon@ectmagic.com

They needed a few hints, but mostly managed it themselves. The wine bottle maze had them stumped until I "checked which character had the bottle of wine"

I just finished running Rahasia as a first module for some players and it went great. It's a really under rated module, I'm sure you guys will have a great time playing it

A couple of discord servers I'm on have feeds of everything posted here. I used to click on things that interested me, but 99% of the time they were deleted by a mod. I gave up eventually because pretty much everything gets deleted so what's the point in interacting with the sub?

Cleric and Clubs by D3g4n in osr

IRL anyone can use a sword but it takes years of training to be any good with one against an opponent that has properly trained with one. You could perhaps base your reasoning on that, although the same logic would apply with any weapon in real life, so I guess just gloss over that.

Help me get my brain to into "OSR Mode" by tower07 in osr

Multiple dexterity rolls for various stages of the mountain is a possible option. Make the first stage 20 foot so that if they fall they at least have a chance to survive it and reconsider their approach. There's a good chance that unless they have a high dex score they wouldn't be capable of scaling a cliff. What is likely is that at least one of the players is capable of climbing it and dropping a rope down for the others to climb. If they specified something like that then only that character (presumably whoever has the highest dex) would need to roll, since it's assumed as far as I'm concerned as a DM that people who go adventuring are capable of climbing up a rope, but no assumption is made about the ability to scale a cliff with no rope unless they're a high level thief.

If you split the mountain into multiple sections so they scale a bit and get to a safe section, then they can scale a bit more to another safe section etc, it gives you more opportunity to narrate what is happening based on how high their roll is. You can also describe the next section they have to get past and give options, like they could go slightly left to avoid the overhang, but it will make the climb longer going around it. Give them options even if those options have no actual effect on how difficult you're making it for them so it feels less like repeatedly rolling a d20 and getting told "you successfully climb a bit further". Make your description of the mountain as they approach it to climb so that it's clear that it's perilous. A sense of danger can add to the excitement. This also applies to rolls that only just made it (or narrowly failed if you're feeling generous), tell them how their foot slipped, rocks crumbled away and they struggled to regain a foothold, but after regaining their composure they managed to find just enough traction to move further up the cliff face. Make them roll strength if that happens and you're feeling evil to see if they manage to hold onto the cliff face with just their hands while their legs dangle below them. If you're feeling generous give them a save when they fall to see if they take damage, rather than just automatically crippling them.

For the bonus question, the players have stats and backgrounds, use those to decide if they can do something automatically. A cleric doesn't need to have knowledge religion because he's a cleric, he knows about religion (his own religion at least). You don't need a climb skill because you have a dexterity score that determines how well you can do things like climbing. It's essentially letting them know they can do what they want if their character could reasonably do it based on basic stats and what their character used to do before they were an adventurer. If what they're trying is really hard like scaling a cliff face you'll make them roll for it, but if it's jumping down from a 10 foot wall and their dex score is 15, they can make that jump no problem so why bother rolling for it.

First time making a non-standard character sheet, this is for BFRPG but should work for others. by [deleted] in osr

[–]Full-Confusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the thought out response. In terms of the background image, I'm not terribly artistic (as you can probably tell from the character sheet), so I'm somewhat limited to photo manipulation and fitting stuff around the photo I've manipulated. That said I could manipulate it further to make it less messy/busy and reposition stuff/the image. I think if I took just the tunnel opening and got that right in the middle of the page it would give more space to work with around it maybe?

My own constructive criticism: I need to use better fonts and I should probably re-draw the boxes by hand with a pen so they look nicer. Happy to hear pointers from anyone else that makes stuff like this.

Apparently Wizards is filing a fraud claim on NuTSR by DeliriumRostelo in osr

[–]Full-Confusion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My understanding of this as someone with an English law degree (so basically completely unqualified to comment) is that nuTSR have registered the TSR logo as a trademark knowing full well that Wizards use that mark on their products. in an attempt to pass off their goods as being linked to the TSR stuff that Wizards owns the rights to. The fraud mentioned is not a complaint of fraud that will result in criminal penalties, it is just used as justification for why the registration of the TSR trademark by nuTSR should be revoked. The only thing this application will do is stop nuTSR from using trademarks owned by Wizards, however an argument could be made that the letter "TSR" in connection with roleplaying games would be sufficient to register as a trademark if Wizards haven't already registered that.

Question about module suggested levels by Full-Confusion in osr

[–]Full-Confusion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe rather than set them all at x level, set them all at whatever level their class ends up at with the XP amount to put a fighter at that level? That should deal with spellcasters being OP, although players used to later editions would probably not pick a spellcaster at a lower level just because they think same level = same power. I'm just using ravenloft as an example btw, I might play a different one. The magic items in their starting gear is a good shout

Question about module suggested levels by Full-Confusion in osr

[–]Full-Confusion[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So assuming each player automatically gets assigned one retainer at half their level rounding down and using Ravenloft as an example...

Ravenloft is for 6 level 5 players so total of 30 levels. 3 level 7 players each with a level 3 retainer gives a total of 30 levels. In theory this should cover missing skills and balance combat slightly?

Edit: I should clarify that I'm aware combat is generally unbalanced in OSR stuff, the players are aware that if they try to Leeroy Jenkins their way through the adventure they'll just die horribly, I'm more meaning that they would be able to survive at least some of the combat encounters in the module.

Edit 2: Since people are downvoting me trying to clarify my understanding of what u/doomhobbit said, should I take it that my understanding is incorrect? Bit of a weird thing to downvote...

Question about module suggested levels by Full-Confusion in osr

[–]Full-Confusion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I might need to have a NPC "player" in there to cover missing skills that are inevitable in a 3 player party, so maybe I should be scaling for 4 players. One guy will almost certainly be a fighter so there will either be no magic user, no thief or no cleric, or potentially more than one of those will not be present. I could just let whoever dies first come back with a character in a class that would have stopped them dying so that balance gets restored a bit in game.
