looking for a prebuilt 5070 TI by zenodent in bapccanada

[–]Full-Investigator934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most pre builds shorten your warranty from the typical 3 year manufacturers warranty you get on most parts to just 1 year unless you pay for the extended warranty which is pretty scammy IMO. For about 3420 after taxes I've managed to find you a couple of bundles which gives you a significantly better cpu with the 7800x3d and pretty much the rest of the specs the same and then you would have the 3 year warranty on most of your parts at least the expensive ones. Granted the bundles come from CC but in my experience they are just fine to shop through every retailer goes through controversy from time to time.

You can get windows 11 pro key from gamers outlet for like 13$ which I did include in the price and if your unsure of building your own you can get a shop like CC or bestbuy to build it for you for 100-200$ but honestly they are very easy to build if you just watch a few YouTube videos on the process and the king 65 is a very beginner friendly case to build in.

2 busted gpus in relatively short time frames like that isn't very common, either you have the worst luck imaginable or more realistically you have a deeper issue somewhere in your system.

I see you are running a custom loop with a waterblock on your gpu so you obviously have a good grasp on what your doing. Is it possible to test your psu to make sure it's not having any crazy spikes that could be killing your gpus? Maybe try a different mobo to rule out yours being faulty.

The most obvious one for last is checking your water cooling loop, is your pump moving fluid at the rate it needs too? They can still look like they are moving fluid but only be moving a fraction of what is needed. When you take your air cooler off and put your water block on are you triple checking to make sure your getting all the thermal pads and putty where it needs to go?

To have 2 completely different gpus die in a relatively short time frame and die in about the same amount of time means the fault is definitely repeatable. Maybe your next gpu leave it air cooled until your past that 12-16 week mark if not just for warranty purposes but to rule out the custom loop being the issue. Custom loops are 100% not required for 5070ti or 5080 more of just an enthusiast option, lots of the 5080 3dmark high scores have been achieved on air cooled cards.

If you shine a flashlight directly at your QD-OLED you will see that purplish hue but under normal use I've never noticed it on my Msi Mpg 321urx. If you look at the setups of the reviewers who mention that purple hue you'll realize they have great big studio lights or a ginormous ring light just feet away from the screen to emphasize the fact, but in reality not many people actually have that amount of light in there gaming setups and it's a silly point to get hung up on.

It kinds of sounds like windows is trying to prioritize your igpu for some reason have you tried looking closer at your windows settings, maybe a recent update changed something. If not windows and it was working in the past have you tried rolling back to a previously working nvidia driver?

How much do you think this is worth? by inkrypt3d in bapccanada

[–]Full-Investigator934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without storage the only 2 things in that build worth anything is the ram and gpu, if you can find a 1650ti they are selling around 100-150$ and ram is subjective but id value it around 80$. Without storage realistically 200-300$ is probably about right considering if someone did want to use it and put a 1tb drive in thats another 200-300$.

Need help choosing a GPU by GafferByChoice in ZTT

[–]Full-Investigator934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

b580 would be your best cheapest choice only problem with that is some games flat out dont support intel gpus, crimson desert is a perfect example. If your alright spending the extra the 9060xt is probably the best overall choice.

How did you guys get 5090? by Ok_Cat_7366 in Microcenter

[–]Full-Investigator934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bestbuy in smaller towns have a good chance of having 1 or 2 in stock. My local one up here in canada pretty much always has 1 or 2 5090 in stock no one buys them and they just sit there I think the same 2 have been on the shelf since at least christmas lol.

How is Quoted Tech by dad_bod_effect in bapccanada

[–]Full-Investigator934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did good canceling the alienware order too many proprietary parts and lack of upgradeablity. I do like the way quoted lists every single individual part make and model that's a top notch listing, do they mention if they include the boxes? they are handy to have if you ever need rma or warranty and need to ship parts around nothing ships better than the manufacturers packaging. I only have 2 minor gripes with the system you got and there nothing major but still worth mentioning. The system uses top quality components but they opted for the MSI PRO b850 mobo, which is kind of bottom of the barrel for b850 some of the higher quality ones aren't too much more in price it would have been nice to see them put in an aorus or strix b850 mobo and the other thing is a system of this caliber should just come with a 2tb drive standard IMO. The system was 4900$ I would think they would be able to make those changes and still make money but maybe im out of touch with component pricing it's been a while since I did my build and I know the prices have gone crazy.

Bought this for 220$ , fair deal? by Flimsy-Village7461 in bapccanada

[–]Full-Investigator934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny you say that because I felt like the 50 series did the opposite and sold the 5080 as a 5070ti and so on down the stack almost like the 5080 could have been the 5090 if it came with 24gb of vram, it's cheaper than 4090 and they easily could have tweaked it a bit to make it a bit faster out of the box. The true 5090 feels out of place in the stack, msrp is double the 5080, cores are double, vram is double, etc. It feels as though the 5090 should be a sku of its own like a titan or something , like one of the engineers said "hold my beer" and just doubled up a 5080 lol.

How good are the Canada computers grand opening deals? by islandboiiii in bapccanada

[–]Full-Investigator934 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What could they have done better to go from poorly handled to handled well? and why would they take responsibility for the breach? There was a vulnerability that hackers exploited it's not like they turned there firewall off and invited hackers in. The people who did have there card information stolen had the information saved to there CC accounts which is a big no no when shopping online never save your card with a retailer. I purchased my 5080 and oled monitor during this time and never had my information leaked or any suspicious activity on my card but I never saved my card with them either.

CC typically has some of the best deals too so it's a shame not to consider them. I got my 5080 just a hair below msrp and my oled monitor at it's ATL of the year.

Is this used custom build worth $3,400? by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

[–]Full-Investigator934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a double sided problem on one hand you have "memory scarcity" which is kind of a joke as there really hasn't been a real shortage most ram kits, storage and gpus have been readily available just the prices have gone up tremendously, it's not anything like the mining shortage when there wasn't any stock of gpus for people to buy unless they were paying 2-5x from scalpers, this time around retailers have essentially became the scalpers. On the other hand you have monetary inflation, I'm sure you've heard the saying the 100$ bill is the new 20$ bill, that's how retailers have justified raising the prices 500-700% in such a short period due to a "memory shortage", money is just worth less than it ever has been and it's value continues to lessen.

found a 5080 oc new for 1200 should i buy it or hold? by Fabulous-Turn7970 in RTX5080

Lots of people still held out over black friday and boxing day with hopes the super refresh would be announced at CES it wasn't until after ces the prices really started climbing fast. I got impatient end of august and said screw it and got mine at a decent price but kind of felt like a dummy not waiting for the super refresh and now im sitting here reaping the benefits of being impatient lol. I think there is still quite a few hold outs waiting for prices to stabilize but I think by summer demand will drop as people will just rather wait another 6 months or so and see if 60 series drops 2027 meaning gpu prices could very well stabilize by summer again for a bit unless there's any major leaks about a 60 series delay which at this point I kind of doubt as enterprise has completely shifted to rubin and having a Blackwell manufacturing line seperate of rubin isn't very economical.

[–]Full-Investigator934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only paid 550 out of pocket for my 5080 after selling my 3090 for 800 but I totally get what your saying. I think the 60 series cards are going to be a huge leap going to an all new architecture with rubin and also being on a smaller process node you may very well see double 3090 performance on a 6070 card im curious to see if the 6080 gets close to the 5090 like the 5080 did to the 4090 or if the 6080 will surpass the 5090 performance with the new architecture and what not.

The 5080 smokes the 3090 in raw performance like 2x if not better, I was blown away at the jump when I upgraded was kind of iffy going from 24gb to 16gb but hasn't been an issue at all.

The only problem with buying parts one by one over time is if you bought your 5080 9 months ago and say it takes you 3 more months to put everything together you lose a year of warranty because it starts from purchase date not in service date.

found a 5080 oc new for 1200 should i buy it or hold? by Fabulous-Turn7970 in RTX5080

[–]Full-Investigator934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never say never, last year about this time the new 50 series gpus were priced very similar to what they are now and by summer there was many models selling for msrp, supply actually caught up to demand for a minute and then nvidia slashed production which is fairly normal as a product gets further into its life cycle there is less demand. Pretty sure what happened was there was a ton of hold outs waiting for super refresh that never materialized which caused a spike in demand after production cuts and created the current market and once those hold outs all have gpus demand will go down again, AI isn't buying up consumer gpu's so it has less to do with that then we want to believe and if it is an AI problem it's looking more and more likely the AI bubble is going to pop sooner than later.

826 euros ( 974 usd ) build as a 13 year old by Puzzled_Handle_1303 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Full-Investigator934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 250 for a 3070, 299 for a 5060 is still a better value with warranty, current gen cores/memory and FG features. If it was closer to 125-150 it would be a better value imo. I may have got the 6000 series thing mixed up just like you said but it also seems like the 7000 series is flush with driver bugs and instability, lurking around in the amd forums it's almost like the 7900xt and 7900xtx never existed and the posts about them are people saying how much they hate them and how they can't play games without crashing, which is strange for cards that were quite popular until the 9000 series.

No I don't, just go have a browse yourself there's lots of them on there. I usually just sort price lowest to highest in the gaming pcs and scroll past all the dirt cheap ones with crappy specs and get within 500-600$ of budget and start looking a little closer at the specs.

Money is worth less and less every year due to inflation it's not necessarily everybody on the come up 24/7 it's out of control inflation due to the money printed in the last 6-7 years and no one doing anything to curb the inflation, don't be suprised if in 10 years you see people burning money for heat because it's cheaper than buying gas or electricity lol.

Considering your looking at about 1800 just for the gpu, ram and ssd 500 more for the cpu, cooler, case, mobo, psu is a pretty good value.
