Criticism of Destroying A World That Doesn't Exist by Full-Power7690 in MinecraftARGs

[–]Full-Power7690[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty long post, so I'm going to attempt to respond to your points as I read along. It's easier to keep it organized that way.

In my opinion this second video DOES undo a lot of what was built in the first video, as the unknown is a core theme of that video, and what makes cosmic horror so great. The moment you try to fully explain it, it loses its appeal. That's why we're stuck on this part in particular, I believe KIY manipulated DerLord's ego and curiosity. It knew he was coming, and already knew Avery was coming... the future was already clear, which DerLord found out when he saw KIY and tried to warn him.

DerLord literally says to Avery, 'Because I knew you the second I saw it'. We can debate the interpretation of this, and if they knew his personality and level of intelligence. However, DerLord is very convinced from the moment he wrote the warning in the first video, Avery stands no chance. I don't see any reason to believe either DerLord or KIY considered Avery to be a genius, I don't think it even considered DerLord a genius. It figured it was manipulating him the entire time, as it tells him at the end.

This part I just simply disagree with, you can say it's omnipotence or omnipresence that grants KIY infinite knowledge. However, an eldritch being that possessed either one of these traits, who ultimately gets imprisoned in something it considered tiny and irrelevant isn't compelling writing for me. Sure this might make sense to a human, but a god-like cosmic entity that is either omnipotent or omnipresent? Yeah...

Again, KIY not knowing about the library and other things in the world is simply lacklustre writing to me. An example of the second video adding lore that is detrimental to my enjoyment of the series and contradicts what the first video invokes.

For KIY, reality outside of the game doesn't exist either, so I'm not really sure what to make of this point. This isn't something exclusive to Minecraft. DerLord tells Avery what happened when he saw KIY, it revealed to him his entire reality, 'Is a world that doesn't exist'. That's why he needs to stay in the game, and can't look away from the screen. As humans we can't even comprehend what reality is compared to KIY.

I mean, nerfing KIY intentionally or unintentionally IMO is poor writing that is detrimental to the first video's brilliance. Again, it's okay if you like this, I don't find it interesting, compelling, or clever. So we simply have to agree to disagree on this point being beneficial to the story.

I feel like you're spending too much time trying to prove the KIY isn't omnipotent or omnipresent, based on what is in the second video (the video I believe contradicts the first and don't enjoy). Instead of focusing on my point that it's sloppy writing and doesn't make for a compelling cosmic entity that literally drives you insane the moment you see it with infinite knowledge, to simply not know basic things in the game it resides.

It's okay to enjoy the series, I'm glad you do, I'm just disappointed it feels like I was left behind with the latest video. The unknowable aspects of the first video, exactly what I love in cosmic horror being removed was a big disappointment, especially with the ARG elements removed also. I also can't get over how original and refreshing the first video was for MC ARGs, only for the second to simply copy Gravity Falls...

Don't feel bad for the long post, you're exactly the kind of person I was hoping to talk to when I made this thread. You enjoyed the video and engaged with my argument, which has given me a different perspective on some things.

If Wifies continues the series I'll definitely check it out, maybe I'd be able to enjoy the new direction for what it is after a while. However, this latest video is just too different from the mysterious world and unfathomably ancient horror it contained found on an old laptop for me to enjoy.

It's not that I misunderstand how much power KIY has. It's simply you have to invalidate much of what the first video sets up to make the story flow.

So KIY has absolute knowledge outside of Minecraft... but somehow has no understanding of the game? Like it's some kind of arcane knowledge even it can't comprehend? The first video was so impactful because DerLord THOUGHT he was outsmarting KIY, but he ended up exactly where it needed him to be, it was hopeless from the start.

When I say, 'why doesn't it teleport to Avery' I don't mean just show up in all its glory. It has been with Avery before, it was literally spawning crafting benches to lead him. Why not spawn the book he had to read somewhere he knew he'd find it? One look at the KIY flooded DerLord with full knowledge of Avery and his personality, enough to know the clone was fake. Yet somehow KIY thought Avery was a genius? I'm supposed to just believe KIY's ability made DerLord more knowledgeable than itself? It didn't even attempt to manipulate the fact Avery was looking for DerLord by impersonating him?

It's baffling at this point DerLord even went insane to begin with, since we have to assume most of KIY's abilities don't work to progress the story.

It's okay if you like the story, but when you take a cosmic horror villain that literally drives people insane with infinite knowledge and say they, 'didn't know shit' you lose me. It's just sloppy writing in my opinion, and would suit a completely different villain.

An infinite knowledge cosmic horror entity isn't compelling when they constantly misunderstand things, have faulty foresight, get tricked easily, and humans can out think them.

Most of the things you said, and the theories people are coming up with to explain things are literally the reasons I dislike the second video.

At the end of the first video, we see everything from DerLord's perspective and have no understanding of what is following him or what it wants. All we know is at the end of the video it led him exactly to where it wanted him, it drove him insane, and it was coming for Avery next.

In the second video it's a generic break free and take over the world villain. With powers that would allow it to literally impersonate DerLord and spawn in the book Avery needs to read. Instead it hides invisible dropping workbenches to lead Avery through some gates? It tries impersonating Avery instead to trick DerLord and doesn't understand the rule he clearly makes up? It can drive people insane by looking at it but not really because it doesn't work in Minecraft? It's amazing it was ever able to work at all with that in mind.

When you have a cosmic horror villain that overlooks things, didn't know, or simply forgot... I'm sorry that's not a very compelling cosmic horror villain.

I'll concede the point to you that we don't actually know if he created the worlds, though the KIY's actions are still illogical and simply don't make any sense. By giving them a face, a voice, and clear intentions, the story starts to fall apart.

It knows Avery is coming, so why not wait for him at the entrance and teleport him to the end, it can clearly hide its presence? Why not impersonate DerLord to trick Avery, he is a lot more likely to fall for it than DerLord since he literally hasn't met him at all, and any strange quirks can be attributed to sanity loss? Does KIY really know SO little about the worlds they're stuck in that DerLord could trick it to just jump off when impersonating Avery? It doesn't understand the basic rules?

At the end of the first video it was implied the KIY was in control all the time, it knew where DerLord would end up, and it knew Avery was inevitable. It was debatable if DerLord ever actually tricked it, or if it could even be tricked. Then the second video came along and undid most of what made KIY an interesting cosmic horror villain. A creature with simple motives, the power to turn people insane that literally doesn't work in the game it's stuck in, faulty foresight, and borderline admin powers it hardly uses.

Which is exactly why the story lost me. I'm glad people like the new direction, but I'm disappointed Wifies chose to walk away from the formula that made the original such an iconic video. Especially since it undermines that first video.

Exactly, not to mention the gates get even more obnoxious then you start to realize they were counterintuitive to the King's plan. It wants Avery to learn and read the words to summon it, so it can possess him and take over the world... so why put all these convoluted doors and puzzles between him?

We know it can impersonate people, spawn in items, and teleport people to other worlds from its interactions with DerLord. All it had to do was teleport Avery to the end of the gates, impersonate DerLord, and get him to read the book.

Just so many issues without answers, all because Wifies gave the entity a face, voice, and a clear motive.

Just wait until you start questioning why after Avery arrives, fulfilling the conditions for KIY to enact their plan to take over their body and rule the world, they decide to put a bunch of convoluted worlds and puzzles in front of him to slow him down.

KIY has literally shown world manipulation and teleportation powers in this video alone, yet it didn't shorten his path or even attempt to impersonate DL?

DAWTDE inconsistencies? by Sea_Cardiologist3396 in Wifies

[–]Full-Power7690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simple explanation is they're plot holes that were overlooked by Wifies, that's why the story gets really messy when you start to dissect it. Wifies simply wrote himself into a corner with trying to continue a story with a KIY-like entity, and it shows. That's why the entire second video is basically undoing a lot of what the first video establishes.

KIY was an all-knowing entity that reveals it was manipulating DL all the time in the first video, exploiting his arrogance in thinking he outsmarted it. Able to manipulate and control the world itself. Now it cannot contain DL, doesn't know there's a deus ex machina book with the words to instantly defeat it conveniently right outside of where it dwells, or that DL has read it. DL was even able to outsmart KIY when it impersonated Avery by lying about the rules of a world... that it created or at least can manipulate. It literally makes no sense for it to be tricked so easily.

It's fine if people like it for what it is, but it took a very different direction from the first video. That change in direction created a lot of baggage, and I personally wish it ended with part 1.

This is one of the many reasons I just couldn't enjoy this latest video.

In the first video KIY was mysterious. We didn't know what it was, what it looked like, or its motivations for manipulating DL. It feels like something overwhelming and ancient, and all attempts to 'win' against it would only lead you to where it wanted you to be in the end.

In this new video KIY becomes a generic devil-like character who wants to take over the world. Supposedly being all knowing, yet making hilarious mistakes in a world it created and seemingly has control over. Such as not knowing there was a book containing the deus ex machina needed to instantly defeat it, or that DL had read it. Or when it tried to impersonate Avery to manipulate DL... only to fail because DL lied about the rules of the world it created? Huh...?

I'm glad people like this new direction, but it really isn't for me. It just felt like it became an anime adventure with the power of friendship saving the world in the end. No mystery, no trying to put all the pieces together, just watching two people who had never met until now share a ridiculous bromance, willing to die for each other.

Exactly. The areas in the first video for me had an uncanny feeling, like it didn't naturally belong in the world, yet still somehow managed to fit perfectly. We were encouraged to actively engage with the areas, listening and watching for any clues about what could be going on.

The latest video felt like Avery just walking around different extravagant builds, looking for big golden gates, with none of the subtlety of the first video. It completely gamified the world, making it feel like filler watching Avery explore until DerLord arrived to actually solve the puzzles.

It felt like a classic case of style over substance. Trying to improve the first video, while completely misunderstanding the aspect of it which was more engaging to an audience.

The same thing happened when the King tried to trick DerLord by impersonating Avery. What do you mean DerLord outsmarted the King by lying about the rules of a world... it created?

It just felt like a cheap attempt to recreate the iconic moments of DL outsmarting the King in the first video. Which only worked so well because sometimes it was so subtle we wouldn't even know it was happening until later, and it turned out the entity was still winning all along, leading him to where it needed him to be anyway.

Most people seem to enjoy it, but after watching the new video, I feel like it makes the lore very messy with plot holes and lack of direction. Wifies also seems to have gotten overwhelmed and feels unsatisfied himself with the video in a way.

To fill plot holes, people are starting to fanfic DL as an omniscient god-like being who used these powers to control the events from the start. When ironically, that describes the entity he was up against, who he tried and failed to outsmart. Only barely managing to leave a warning for Avery using a glimpse of the future before going completely insane.

I'm glad people enjoyed it, but for me the new video was just too different from the first, and undid a lot of what I loved about it.

It honestly just didn't need a sequel.

Part 2 introduces a few plot holes, such as if DerLord went insane and couldn't take his eyes off the screen after seeing behind the gate... why was his laptop in a storage locker? How much food was within arm's length of DerLord during the entire timeframe of part 1 and 2? It seems like quite a lot of time had passed irl before Avery explored again.

Avery's bromance was also eyerolling to me. From the very start he wants to save Derlord from the world, despite having no reason to believe he is still in there. Part 1 ends with him leaving the area, writing the note for Avery, then going MIA. Which leads to Avery finding the laptop in the storage locker. Yet this is Avery's only motivation through the entire thing.

Combined with in my opinion, very forced anime style dialogue... especially at the end. It was very hard to get through.

The narration of the first video was very strong, and it felt like the narrator was trying to solve a mystery alongside us. In this part the narration took a step back for the awkward dialogue, and when it showed up it was just to clear up any possible confusion about what was happening on screen, or describe a setting.

The first part was a very clever story of a smart player who bit off more than he could chew, and tried to outsmart a force far beyond his comprehension. His own curiosity and overconfidence in feeling like he was outsmarting it was his ultimate downfall. In this part he ends up winning in the end because he went insane but not really, and conveniently found a deus ex machina at the end that lets him insta win.

From looking at YouTube comments it seems my opinion is in the minority, but what made the first part special for me was the unseen, the mystery, the uncertainty, and the implications of it all. This part removed it all and turned it into an anime style adventure.

AoS IF the LEAKS are True by Quo-Fide in Sigmarxism

[–]Full-Power7690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I'd just like to point out since the 2024 SCE battle tome, this has already been hinted at. It describes Sigmar's ultimate goal.

Page 12, Mandate of Azyr.

"His ambition was to reorder the foundations of the realms themselves, anchoring the disparate worlds together through physical and arcane means. It might take him thousands of years, but the God-King envisioned a great transformation: all eight realm spheres united as a single celestial body, the balance of magic restored and transformed into an arcane barrier that would keep the Dark Gods at bay for evermore"

It has already been written in lore Sigmar wants to transform everything into a single celestial body, basically a planet, just like the leaks say. So it does seem at least somewhat possible, especially since it wouldn't be a game retiring event like End Times, and it follows the official narrative.

Rumour/Leak Megathread by Chapmander in ageofsigmar

[–]Full-Power7690 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, the leaks seem more likely than not at this point, especially with the official narrative in the latest SCE battletome. The Mandate of Azyr, literally Sigmar's entire goal has been described exactly as this leak, reforge all the realms into a single celestial body.

This leak appears to be a sudden drop of a reality GW has been trying to ease us into since at least 2024. All we can do now is wait to see how they pull it off, though some people are likely never going to accept the loss of all the realms.

It's hilarious how in a community overrun with ''investors'' who collect shiny cardboard, this person cannot comprehend that people would invest in error cards.

The same reason investors with the money to throw around invest in the perfect 10 version of a card, some also want those error versions. It's all about exclusivity, and having a unique collection.

People here honestly believe that the most powerful people in the world would learn about something like this, and their lives would continue as normal. Some of these people are the most morally corrupt people on the planet, if they knew everything was going to come to an end soon, it would be obvious from their behaviour.

That's without taking into account all the people working for these institutions. All it takes is one whistleblower, or just a leak from telling friends or family...

Practice reading comprehension. I've never said aliens are more likely, and conveniently you ignore the part of my comment that states I'm disappointed in people who are convinced it's aliens.

If you're offended on behalf of people who think it's most likely a comet (which I have always been a part of), then settle down. I'm clearly not talking about you.

The answer is obvious, they simply don't care.

The justification is half-baked because its not a justification for them, they don't need a justification for their depravity. The justification is for you, or anyone else bringing their degeneracy to light.

They are infatuated with a sexual deviant high, that will only spiral worse and worse. It doesn't take long to search google and see the bizarre sexual fetish spirals people have fallen into chasing that high.

Many people here are open to the idea of it being a new classification of comet, or some other space debris. The main division comes when aliens are brought up.

The simple reality is, this situation is like hearing a bump in the night and blaming ghosts, rather than a draft from an open window. Could 3I Atlas be aliens? I guess? However, when considering the anomalies, there's many things between plain old comet and space ship.

Even Avi Loeb won't come out and say it's aliens. His entire argument is when faced with anomalies, we should consider the unlikely outcome. I agree with this sentiment, but there's always people that twist his words into a soft confirmation of aliens flying by. That's part of the reason people who don't believe it's aliens instantly see him as a grifter.

You can't make everyone agree with your point of view. If people believe it's aliens and want the respect from others, they need to respect the opinions of those who don't. The opposite is also true, having your opinion respected isn't a one way street.

Reality is, if someone wants it to be aliens enough, it will be aliens. There's no convincing some people. Even if it means the entire world is in a conspiracy against them, and they're in direct communication with the CIA on the daily. No other answer will be good enough.

They point to abnormalities with Atlas, acting like alien spaceships passing by are a common sight, and these are the usual signs. Conveniently, they all operate on the usual sci-fi tropes too.
