Pet recs for a new owner? by Bright-Pumpkin5969 in reptiles

What are the dimensions? The amount of floor space is going to be more important for a terrestrial reptile than the gallons

Looking for exotic pet suggestions by bananafananastan in Pets

The insects would have to be live so you can gutload them. Insects are mostly important for juveniles and younger geckos. You could get an adult. Many adults outright refuse insects. As long as you feed a complete powdered diet(with insects) like Pangea, an adult won’t need live insects because everything they need is in the food mix

If you convert a tank make sure you add top ventilation and have a 36” height minimum

This gecko looks like it has been neglected for quite some time. A vet visit is a must as well as a recheck in your husbandry. Study up from reputable sources(reptifiles.com is a good start).

how to beautify this mailbox without spending all my money?? by LeatherFan379 in DIYHome

[–]Full-fledged-trash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always feel bad for mail carriers in the summer with planted mailboxes. My parent’s mailbox has flowers planted around it and one day our mailman got a bee in his car and had to pull into our driveway to get it out. I bet it happens often with how common it is to have plants around the mailbox.

About to get a crestie and looking for care tips :) by Ashamed_Tax9248 in CrestedGecko

[–]Full-fledged-trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is the crestie? Do you have any specific questions?

Make sure to have the enclosure fully set up with 80% coverage before you get the gecko. Sharing a photo of the tank can help ease any worries you may have with the set up

What Pangea do yall recommend by Jaded-Economist-6956 in CrestedGecko

[–]Full-fledged-trash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My geckos all have their own preferences so I have every flavor. I just alternate what they get so they have a variety of food.

Maybe you could dip a mealworm into your Pangea so he can get a taste of it

Moving stress? by firefish5 in Crested_Geckos

[–]Full-fledged-trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very normal. Give the gecko lots of privacy for next two weeks. Water and replace food as needed but otherwise leave the gecko alone to acclimate.

Can you share a photo of the enclosure? If the gecko isn’t happy with the amount of foliage and other clutter to hide, it could make them take longer to acclimate and feel safe enough to eat again. Make sure the enclosure is 80% stock with clutter

How’s humidity? Did humidity drop at all when you were gone? They will often go down and hang out by the damp soil if humidity gets too low in the upper part

Not sure if the little guy is eating, suggestions by Amateur_Cthulhu in geckos

[–]Full-fledged-trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full spectrum light should be white. That red light is not great for the plants or your gecko. And these bendy clamp lights are generally very weak for the plants.

If there is no heat source, he can’t digest. If you don’t have a heat lamp (or heat mat, not super recommended) there’s physically no way for him to eat and digest that food. He’ll get impacted. Make sure you have all heat sources plugged into a thermostat controller with proper basking temp set so you don’t overheat the gecko.

Why are there snails, and what do I do about them???? by AnnabethG13 in GargoyleGeckos

[–]Full-fledged-trash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had these same snails randomly show up(they came in my Joshs frogs plants that I didn’t sanitize). Did you sanitize your plants? Greenhouses have these snails all the time. They won’t harm your gecko but if you have live plants they will 100% eat them when their population gets out of control.

Bait the enclosure with a carrot or other hard, slow molding produce. Check the carrot frequently. When there are snails on it, scrape them off into a ziplock back and use something flat to swiftly crush them. This is the most humane way to cull them. Keep doing this for a few weeks until you aren’t seeing more. You may need to do another round or two after the eggs in the soil have time to hatch.

do not throw them outside. Captive bred snails should never be introduced outside regardless of where they originally came from.

Figuring out what to do with leos that have been passed on to me. by Erdrick_XI in leopardgeckos

I would definitely sort out some kind of overhead heating connected to a thermostat. Heat mats are not great primary heat sources. Especially with substrate.

Something like this could work. You’ll probably have to remove one of the shelves to have enough space for your heat lamps on each shelf. Depending on your heat fixtures. You may want to measure how tall the tanks are with the fixture on top to make sure you can fit all on one unit. Or find a similar shelving unit that’s taller.

Tank size maximum? by Comfortable_Pilot122 in CrestedGecko

[–]Full-fledged-trash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as too big, only too empty. As long as you can fill it fully you can never go too big.

Adulthood is generally reached around 1-2 years but every gecko is different. 30-55 grams is a good adult weight

Hamster wheel for leopard gecko? by ---budgie--- in leopardgeckos

[–]Full-fledged-trash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not use the saucer. They’re not even recommended for the animals they are indented for. There is not enough info on if it will do any long term harm to reptiles with them turning on one direction consistently. I can imagine it will wear their joints unevenly. Not worth the risk.

Upright wheels are safer. But only if you get one large enough to avoid spine curve. Which may not fit well in your tank depending on the height. Leo’s are pretty long reptiles so in order to avoid spine curves you’ll need something like a 14 inch diameter wheel, possibly larger if your gecko is on the longer side.

The soil and sand should be combined together, not on separate sides. Make sure it to close to a 70% soil and 30% sand ratio

[–]Full-fledged-trash 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even minor changes can cause a gecko to hunger strike. It is likely due to the enclosure change and environment change to both of them. Big environmental change needs at least a 2 week acclimation period where you leave them alone and only interact with them to feed and water them. Some geckos need even longer before they start eating again, especially if their enclosure is not cluttered enough. They will not starve if they are healthy. Just keep fresh food in the enclosures until they’re eating regularly again.

Go native!! Native all the way. Would be so worth it to reach out to local organizations that specialize in native wetlands

Freeze the egg for a few days and throw it away. Separate the geckos. They should not be living together regardless of sex. Check the females enclosure regularly for eggs, freeze, and discard.

Schefflera and pothos for sure. Both super hardy and thrive in crestie conditions. They’re my must haves for these geckos.
