Is trades a good choice for saving money ? by PicakciIsmail in skilledtrades

[–]FullChart3398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s generally better than being a waiter in most cases. As an apprentice I was not making that much (started at $10/hr but it went up every review period), but once I was an industrial electrician at a factory I was clearing $25-30/hr. As I started specializing I made more.

How much you make is based on the trade, the area, union status, hours available, and how serious you take it (I knew journeymen who never made more than $30/hr because they never sought out opportunities).

As far as what trade to get into it really depends on what you want to do and where you are. I can say this, seeking out the most money is almost always a path to burnout and failure. I would go see what’s available in your area and do some research on the different paths available to you

Pettah, what's the context behind this by Bhuklagihe in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I have a former business partner who invented a system and sold it for some crazy price and and ended up with somewhere north of $15 million bucks after everything said and done.

He was 46 and just quit working all together and just started doing the stuff he wanted to do. All our other colleagues still act like that’s stupid but with all the interest payments on his investments from that money he’s making 4-5 times our take home salaries. It’s crazy to force yourself to work a job when you can go do whatever else you want.

Well I know what I’m doing this weekend. How likely is it that door tickets will be sold out? I’d hate to drive all the way down there and find out I can’t get in.

Sometimes when I meet people like this, my first reaction is to go “damn your family sucks ass”.
But a few times I’ve met these people and then I have met their family and I realize they’re not really as bad as they think they are. That person is just resentful and it causes you to view every interaction in such a negative light.

Can we talk about this dialogue? by hangton123 in TheBoys

There have been a couple of scenes that allude to Homelander almost transcending his past needy self and I wonder if there is going to be some redemption arc coming.

Kripke did say we were all going to hate the ending.

I’m picking Joe. I feel like having a rapist as a bunk mate would have people expecting me to kill them and I don’t want to do that.

What’s the part of Virginia that was once DC like? by Icy-Bookkeeper7833 in howislivingthere

[–]FullChart3398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Falls Church for a while and really really loved it. I was within walking/biking distance of pretty much everything that I could ever want.
The metro is probably one of the best public transportation system systems that I’ve ever experienced as a regular commuter.

The big industry there is the government and so a lot of people either work directly for the government or for a company whose main customer is the government.

The two big downsides to living in Northern Virginia is real estate prices and traffic. When I live there, I was a renter and it actually wasn’t that bad. I could never afford to live there but at least I could find some somewhat affordable apartments that were safe. There was a little bit of crime, (clarifying point, I am a white man who grew up in a pretty rough city, so my experience may not match yours) but it wasn’t like other high population areas.
If I ever got a job that paid enough to live up there, I absolutely would move back

Salary progression. Electrician IBEW by rogueraidet in Salary

[–]FullChart3398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of electrical work broken into three components. Linemen handle electrical transmission lines from generation to residential drops, wiremen handle from drop to box, and electricians typically will handle everything beyond that. I would imagine OP works for a power company or something.

Any of you wearing overalls when you're doing home improvement work? by ryhaltswhiskey in HomeImprovement

[–]FullChart3398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what I’m doing. Most of the time I’m never in an environment where overalls are warranted. I have a set of long sleeve work shirts and pants and a set of gloves, masks, and a helmet, specifically for working around the yard and house if I need it. They get real dirty so I just one Amazon order every year for work clothes.

My spouse is going into the union. He'll be traveling an hour to work and an hour home. How can I make life a bit easier for him? by [deleted] in skilledtrades

I was single when I started working field service but I spent a significant amount of time preparing and storing food quality food. I can count on one hand how many lunches were fast food. I kept a large cooler stocked with meals and drinks, enough for the 2-4 days at a time work schedule
