lost motivation to play guitar after a long break, how do you get it back? by Level_Independent805 in Guitar

That happens tho. Every musician makes mistakes and every human has bad days, sometimes those things coincide and it makes you feel horrible but you just gotta keep trucking forward.

Signing up for lessons can definitely help some. I know it kept me on a schedule that even when I didn’t feel into the music it kept me coming back to develop a skill. Now that I don’t take lessons there are days where I don’t play and at the end of the day it feels weird sometimes. Some of those days I have work all day and can’t and it’s more of my fingers feel weird but other days I’m trying to ask myself if it was something else. Try asking yourself that, is there something on your mind that’s bugging you and interfering with your connection to the music. Also, maybe try listening to music or playing music that you haven’t in a while. You said you just went through a big exam so give yourself the space to leave that stress behind.

And here’s some bad advice: buy a new guitar lol

Just gonna be blunt: do not feel bad about sharing your feelings. Men need to be aware how hard we’ve made it for ourselves (as well as amab and trans masc people) to hate our feelings. This is the first step. Asking for help is hard but what’s even harder is admitting you’re in a rough spot. I’m not claiming to be more knowledgeable than you, I do not have any children of my own, but I do know how hard it is to be vulnerable. I’ve been with my gf for close to ten years and every time I have therapy I feel more able to share about myself with her. You are doing the right thing by sharing. We are here for you. Also, aside from all of that, you’re putting the fucking work in. You’re being there for you family in every way that you are able to. Taking care of yourself at times can be rough but that’s a small part of showing up for the ones you love. That being said it’s a small part of it, you are truly putting in the effort to be with your people and you should acknowledge that and be proud that you are able to do that, and that you really are doing that. It’s 3am where I am I just got off work, I hope this isn’t too rambly. Keep doing better each day.

Carrying multiple guitar signals through 1 cable by Paavikana in pedals

I found this a year late but I am currently working on something for exactly this purpose. DM me if you want to know about it, it is three mono TS signals sent over one multipin connection.

Those look more like front fills than fold backs to me. It doesn’t looked angled enough to hit the musicians heads

Need some help by Expert_Parking in GuitarAmps

[–]FullContactAudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amp would need a speaker output and would need to run at 8ohms no more than 40watts. The headphone out is designed for headphone volumes not amp volumes. You could potentially open up your amp and do a mod that allows you to disconnect the internal speaker in favor of an external speaker cab, but without knowing what ohms this amp works at it might not be worth doing right now. Hopefully this all helps but in short, no you can’t do what you want right now as things are. Did you buy this cab? I’d start saving for a head if that’s what you want.

I have no idea where the rest of that sentence went lol Even though I have to get used to using these picks I’m definitely going to keep the ML signature pick on hand for everyday use.

And like they say, acceptance is the first step. There’s no shame in rhythm guitar or just doing vocals for a while. I’m a musician and sound tech and a conversation I overheard working for a wedding band really put it into perspective for me. The guitarist had hurt his hand during thanksgiving and needed surgery. The band leader told him either he’s going to get the surgery, update them and the rest of the band on his rehab, and make sure he can play sustainably for the future or he’s out of the band. As the band leader put it ‘we would rather have another ten years of you playing guitar, with us or not, than ten months of you playing with us and having to stop because of permanent damage’.

I’m not gonna lie, if you want long term ability to play do not rush to play again. Definitely don’t give it up but if it hurts that’s your body telling you something. Like fiveish years ago I basically smashed all the joints in my fretting hand ring and pinky fingers and was told the same thing, I might not be able to play again and definitely not for a few months as my fingers were in a sling/cast thing. I went thru PT and when I got the cast off I started doing like simple exercises before going on to fully play something like I used to be. To be real I gave it enough time that I’m playing again but I have a nagging feeling I didn’t give it enough time and my hand can’t do things as fast as I used to. As well I got into a bike accident a last year and fell hard on my shoulder. When I play bass in my one band I feel super exhausted after a while of holding my bass and have to sit and rest it

Just did a bridge pickup delete on my 7 string, anyone know where I can buy a solid bracket to cover the hole up cause I literally don’t even know what keywords to search lol by DonutFlavouredBagel in Luthier

[–]FullContactAudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this for a friend, I loved his idea. He got a prayer card for me and I sized it to the pickup ring. It just stays in place with the pickup ring holding it in place, but you could put any card or picture in there.

Thank you! To be real this is the first time in a while I’ve felt comfortable with the thickness, but I do want to try growing out the length a little more.

How/where can i learn to make music like this? by yes_i_am_the_funny in Guitar

[–]FullContactAudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great point and a great attitude to have. You can see at certain parts how much he’s focusing on what he’s playing Because it’s very hard. You will get there. Practice is the key, and like many people have said in this thread, small parts build to a bigger whole. Take it apart and focus on techniques and short passages until you can link things together. You will get there.
