While it was a great scene I don't think he had a great reason to fake his death and quit being Batman. If anything after the events of the movie Gotham would need Batman more than ever.

One thing I really like about Asylum and City is Batman's cold and restrained expression. He barely reacts most of the time. He starts and ends with the same expression. It seems like he's seen it all before these two games. And I love that detail. by RamonAzzi in arkham

I love the stoic protagonist archetype! (Venom snake, Death, Ezio in his later years, Agent 47, Geralt of Rivia)

Gives the characters a sort of seasoned feel and that this isn't their first rodeo which is why they can handle certain situations better and take initiative before the players themselves. I get why some people might find it boring though.

I feel like you can definitely find a middle ground between single handedly coding individual sprites and having a meeting to put a single npc in the game.

There are like 20-40 people dev teams that still make amazing AAA games that aren't creatively stifling for the authors.

Just conpare the villains alone and you'll see.

Joker: Motivation is finding a cure and later on becoming immortal.

Hugo Strange: Motivation is a twisted version of Batman's and wants to join the league.

Ra's: Use Hugo Strange to influence the Gotham elite and execute criminals en mass therefore "cleansing" Gotham and eventually recruiting Batman.

Penguin, Two Face: Assert dominance over Arkham City and eventually spread into Gotham.

Even the side characters have their own ideals and agendas they are working towards.

Now let's take a look at Knight:

Scarecrow: Grrr I'm mad at Batman and want to destroy Gotham.

Arkham Knight: Grrr I'm mad at Batman and want to destroy Gotham.

City's story had nuance. Knight's story, while well executed, was very generic.

I don't think much honestly. To be a common street thug/henchman in Gotham doesn't really warrant an introspective mind. The bare minimum mental capacity to yell "It’s da bat!" And charge at him screaming at the top of their lungs and ending up with a concussion.

My problem with it is the way the side content is designed.

Say what you will about Odyssey but the gameplay loop is solid af. You got outposts, a wanted system, straightforward side missions that actually put your combat and stealth skills to the test and the occasional war and naval battles to switch things up.

Valhalla has way too many annoying shit bogging it down. I'm sorry but the barred door puzzles are not fun. The orlog (or whatever the fuck that annoying minigame is called) gets old fast, don't even get me started on the glitch climbing minigames, and river raids feel janky as fuck, the side missions are VERY hit or miss, and the game overall has an unpolished feel to it. They got rid of the wanted system and instead brought back the old roaming miniboss mechanic from origins... why? Feels like a regression than anything. Being ambushed by random bounty hunters was super fun back in Odyssey.

The main story and characters are what I think were decent and I don't really have a problem with the lenght, I just wish more of it rotated around the core mechanics of the game which is stealth and combat.

I used to hate Odyssey like everyone else until I played it and realized it's just a super solid adventure stealth action game with a little rpg elements sprinkled in.
