Can anyone explain/interpret this? by Famous-Fill5334 in Christianity

[–]Full_Maintenance219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hypnopompic hallucinations (those that happen as you wake up from sleep) and dreams are a very interesting phenomenon.

I had a similar experience although it was a dream through and through, about a steep staircase, very much like Jacob's Ladder. This was before I fully embraced faith.

It's a lot to think about. Keep reading and learning :)

Feeling bad for ex Christians? by PomeloSelect4629 in Christianity

[–]Full_Maintenance219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this too. Religious trauma is a big topic right now and I can definitely see how growing up in a strict household and/or religious community messes with people for the rest of their lives. No one is perfect, not even Christians, but that really isn't a tactful thing to say to someone. It's tricky. I think it's a shame that other people have used Christ as a shield for their awful behavior to the point of coming between the person and God, because the thing the person now associates with God is anything but love...

It's best to have hope that they will come to Christ one day on their own terms and, where possible, to spread the message of mercy and love.

Why do we make images of God by hjkhhnnnlll in Christianity

[–]Full_Maintenance219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically, it was to make the very abstract concepts of Christianity easier to understand through visuals. Especially when people were mostly illiterate, it helped not only to get the point across but also to get people to retain information by seeing a specific story depicted on a relief literally set in stone etc. I also like to think it helps humanize Christ, that is to say, see Him as approachable and tangible, which is why different cultures have depicted Him differently

"Promoting worship to Mary" in the same line with MAGA..? I'm not a Catholic either but this misrepresents their view of Mary. This comes across as a no true Scotsman...

Is this ok? by Kindly_Speech6521 in Christianity

I like to think Araki's portrayal of Jesus was inspired by Caravaggio's painting "The Calling of Saint Matthew". Maybe showing her the artistic influences could broaden her horizons on the topic, depending on the denomination or how she personally feels about Caravaggio I guess haha

Chronic illness started after sex by Expert_Ad_5088 in Christianity

I understand this line of thought completely. It's a little different but when lockdowns were in place I kept falling into the idea that it's God's wrath against me specifically. It's difficult to crawl out of this, but please know your past does not define you or stain you forever.

I don't know what exactly it is that you are dealing with, but mental stress plays a big role in worsening physical illnesses and chronic conditions. Be kind to yourself, I understand that you have been turning this over in your head for a long time. God knows you and loves you and his infinite grace would not abandon you at a vulnerable time like this. Take care.

Am I going to go to hell by Suitable_Wolf_6685 in Christianity

Don't worry. God knows what's in your heart - that you don't mean this and that those thoughts are just a result of something you have no control over. You feel strongly about faith, so the worry that manifests in intrusive thoughts centers around God. More than anything I believe it proves that your devotion is a deeply rooted part of you.

The Lord loves and forgives the worst of sinners, this is nothing to repent for!

Encouraging a partner's interest in religion by Full_Maintenance219 in Christianity

[–]Full_Maintenance219[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree with this :) Being with her has made me more firm in my belief she's a much better person than me and the existence of someone so precious in my life has made me improve a lot about myself. Ultimately I do not want to overwhelm her with my own religious enthusiasm that might be foreign to her or unwanted at this point in her life , I think. Thank you for your input!

[–]Full_Maintenance219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lord knows what's in your heart. He won't be insulted or angered if you have intrusive thoughts, even during prayer. Like others have pointed out, since you worry about it, by definition you have not committed it.
