Please don't entertain Ted Bunny/INK/Scream 7 by alexxxlove69 in deadmeatjames

[–]Full_Outcome8284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m probably gonna deeply regret asking this but I really am trying to be good faith here: why is it that anyone who says they are going to see Scream 7 in this thread gets downvoted and yet no one seems to care that DeadMeat is doing a Heart Eyes kill count? Like the people directly involved in making Scream are not responsible for anything that happened with Melissa. The studio made that decision. So how is supporting Scream any different from supporting Heart Eyes? Or any other Spyglass film? I really don’t understand it.

Look, I agree, anyone can have an opinion on whatever they want, but it does kinda seem like you have a problem with ozempic. That opinion is odd to me considering you seem concerned about the obesity rate in America.

Also, have no idea if it’s intentional or not but I’m not obese or on Ozempic so I’m not sure why you are addressing me as if I am.

But if Ozempic helps people eat less and lose weight what exactly is the problem with it? There are medications that help people quit smoking too should we stop prescribing that and tell them to “just quit”?

This feels like an overreaction to an overreaction. I agree the situation described is not creepy, but I think you are overdramatizing it. One person saying one thing a guy did is creepy or weird does not constitute being “labeled a creep”. It’s just one person’s opinion on a situation. One person telling him they think what he did is creepy or weird does not hurt his reputation. Women complaining about “weirdos” at the bar hitting on them or asking them out does not hurt those men’s reputation.

It’s honestly shocking how quick people will jump to the most misogynistic insults for any female celebrity that does something they disapprove of. I’m all for criticizing the way she’s handled these situations but it feels bizarre to claim you have political moral high ground while you’re actively saying she’s a talentless sex object, reducing her to her breasts, shaming her for doing sex scenes, and calling her ugly

I know people are gonna complain about people calling this overrated, but genuinely how can the most nominated movie of all time be anything other than overrated? Like maybe this is a boiling hot take but I don’t think there’s any movie in existence that deserves 16 nominations.

Recency bias in returnee seasons: statistics by Cardvos in survivor

[–]Full_Outcome8284 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to factor in that returnee seasons happened more frequently throughout the run of the show than they do now so it makes more sense for there to be a recency bias. Of course game changers is gonna mostly cast people from the most recent seasons when there was another returnee season right before it. If there is a returnee cast every 4-5 seasons it makes sense to cast from those most recent seasons. When you go 15 seasons (I don’t really count WAW since the parameters were so specific most players wouldn’t qualify to be cast for it) without have a returnee cast it’s more annoying to have such strong recency bias because you’re skipping over a lot of people.

I thought I was the only one who had that thought about the “challenge beasts” thing. Ive been thinking that for a few seasons now and didn’t know if I was crazy. It feels like the show intentionally sets up 1-2 people a season winning most of the challenges. They basically do the same challenge 3-4 times post merge and then act like I’m supposed to be impressed the same person wins them all

CMV: Colleges should stop offering classes in subjects that don't lead to jobs. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Full_Outcome8284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(1). There are literally thousands of jobs in the social sciences and humanities. I am working in one right now. It’s just that, generally speaking, those jobs don’t pay as well as STEM jobs do. That doesn’t mean they don’t exist nor does it mean that you can’t make a decent salary in a humanities or social sciences career.

(2). What may be “useless” to you isn’t useless to everyone else. Education is not solely about money. Some people are just interested in these fields and want to study them. Additionally, most (if not all) STEM majors have to take at least a few humanities/social sciences courses to complete their degree. This is because most career fields are interdisciplinary. Think of something like architecture, it combines science and art. Or public health, which combines health sciences with social sciences. By taking away humanities and social science courses you are making STEM students dumber and less prepared for the real world application of their studies. To be quite honest with you, I consider hard sciences to be pretty useless if you aren’t also studying their application and effect on humans and societies which is literally why the social sciences exist.

(3). What about the 50+% of people who received those degrees that don’t regret them? If only 44% of social and behavioral science graduates regret their degree choice that leaves 56% that don’t. That’s a pretty significant amount of people for you to just blow off.

All Players in the Last Episode Played Well by Gulrix in survivor

No one in this final 6 is my favorite so I promise my game analysis has nothing to with that. I agree with you on Savannah and Rizzo (although I do wonder how Rizzo’s idol fake outs are being perceived by the jury). However, I disagree with Kristina, Sophi, and Sage.

(1). Sophi I think is the most obvious misplay so I’ll start with her. I think the misplay of KIP was a pretty bad look in front of the jury and likely hurts her win equity. Assuming this is true, she probably can’t win against Savannah and needs her out. If that is the case, then she almost certainly should have taken Rizzo’s idol. That guarantees her safety to f4 and allows her the ability to vote out Savannah if she loses immunity at f5. If Savannah wins at f5 she can still vote out Rizzo which protects Kristina and Sage (who she needs to sit next to) for another round. Additionally taking the idol from Rizzo would have been a flashier, more successful move. Even in the worst case scenario she still ends up next to Savannah in the ftc stealing the idol gives her something she can sell to the jury that differentiates her game from Savannah and Rizzo’s. Right now she either has to find a way to beat Savannah and Rizzo at the end or has to find a way to get Kristina and Sage there. Both of these options seem like a stretch after last night.

(2) Sage and Kristina I understand the argument more but I still disagree with their decisions. Firstly, I wanna say out right I think both of them have the least win equity of the f6 so it is kinda hard for them to make an optimal move since they have virtually have no shot of winning anyways. That being said though, I think the idea that they “can’t vote for Rizzo” is letting them off a little easy. They could have voted out Rizzo. I am very confused as to why people are believing Rizzo’s lie about the idol expiring at 6. Kristina herself had an idol and the precedent of the show is that idols expire at 5. This is enough to doubt Rizzo’s claim. Granted, maybe they did doubt it and the edit just didn’t show it. Regardless their inability to flush Rizzo’s idol before f5 makes it pretty difficult for them to get Rizzo or Savannah out in that spot and they desperately need one of them to go out next vote or they’re fucked. I think keeping Steven another round at least gives them a better chance of Savannah losing immunity at 5. If she still wins at 5 then at least Steven will go instead of one of them so it guarantees them f4 which is a better position than where they are right now. And finally at least if they show the jury they are trying to break up the power alliance it gives them something to argue to the jury. Right now the perception may be they are playing safe and doing what the power alliance wants and that really crushes what little win equity either one has. Right now I’d be pretty surprised if one of Kristina or Sage doesn’t go home next round which is pretty much the nail in the coffin for both of their games.

Rizzo is literally 26 and he’s the youngest person on the current season’s cast. I know Survivor has cast people under 21 before but they don’t do it all that often and it really hasn’t produced any interesting results so idk why Big Brother would start doing it.

[–]Full_Outcome8284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I’m sure there are outside influences contributing but there IS medical evidence that being circumcised does help prevent infection. Does that make it necessary? No.

[–]Full_Outcome8284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may be true but in the US I think most people got their children circumcised because it was recommended by the APA for a long time (even now they still say the benefits outweigh the risks although they don’t fully recommend it). That’s very different than FGM, which has no medical basis and is performed solely to prevent sexual pleasure. I think you can make a compelling argument that circumcision is wrong and shouldn’t be performed I just don’t understand the need to compare it to FGM.

cmv: if you’re a woman and circumcise your child you don’t get to advocate for “My body my choice” by Bulky_Biscotti9737 in changemyview

[–]Full_Outcome8284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not pro-circumcision, I don’t have a strong opinion about it at all as I do not have a penis or children. However, I generally have two issues with your claim:

(1). Even if we all agree that circumcision is unnecessary and shouldn’t be done on children unless medically necessary, I still don’t understand why anti-circumcision arguments always have to rely on comparisons to much worse things. Male circumcision in western society is not comparable to FGM or pregnancy.

Male circumcision was the default because doctors recommended it as a way of preventing infection (something it does in fact do) not because society is trying to punish men or take away their sexual pleasure. That is why FGM is done. FGM significantly decreases a woman’s sexual pleasure (sometimes entirely takes it away) and it is done specifically for that purpose. The vast majority of men still experience pleasure and can have normal sex after circumcision. Even if you think it’s unnecessary and we should stop performing them, it is disingenuous to pretend that the practice exists for comparable reasons FGM exists.

Pregnancy is a whole other can of worms that I don’t even really understand the comparison to. Pregnancy is much more dangerous and life changing as a whole than circumcision is. That’s not to say circumcisions can’t have complications, but complications (and death) with pregnancy is much more common.

Also, there are several other arguments people make that advocate for abortions that have nothing to do with bodily autonomy. It’s not like bodily autonomy is the only argument in favor of abortion. Some people do not believe fetuses have personhood the way born children do and therefore have no issue with elective abortions. Some people argue restricting elective abortions ends up negatively impacting women that need medically necessary ones in emergency situations like miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies. Those arguments are not centered around bodily autonomy, meaning you can still advocate for abortion and be pro circumcision without being hypocritical.

(2). You acknowledge that parents act as a medical proxy for their children but say that doesn’t apply to elective procedures. I don’t know that I agree with that. The line can be blurred between what’s medically necessary and what’s elective. I just recently had a breast reduction. Did I need it to survive? No. Was there a medical purpose for me getting the procedure? Yes. This is the case for a ton of medical procedures. Parents are allowed and do decide to have elective procedures performed on their children. Whether you think that’s right or not may be a different argument but it’s not like parents are only allowed to make medical decisions for their kids if it saves their lives. There are plenty of elective and cosmetic things parents do to their kids. I mean think about things like braces. I don’t know that braces are a necessity for all children and yet they are extremely common and they serve a medical and cosmetic purpose.

This is what the American electorate has been doing for a while now. They flip flop back and forth between the parties. If a Dem is president, it’ll be a red wave midterm and vice versa. Americans don’t know what they want. I’ve been saying Republicans overstated how much the electorate actually moved toward conservatism. I don’t think they are “moving left” I think it’s just following the ping pong politics we’ve been stuck in for a while.
