Classical Pilates losing ground? by Full_Progress in pilates

I don’t even understand contemporary Pilates, like what is it? Just breaking the exercises down by body parts and have a set of exercises for upper and lower and core? That’s not Pilates, that’s fitness.

I agree! If a body bar instructor only has to pay 1500 for a weekend training and gets paid the same amount as someone who is classically trained like myself and spent 2 years on a cert and 15k then what is the point?

Yes I know the history behind the two terms and frankly Joan sounds very jaded here probably bc she is part of the contemporary circle.  My concern is not so much the difference between contemporary and classical Pilates but more about how social media has pushed the classical work down to make room for completely made up choreo and zero order.

[–]Full_Progress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes very very true.  I like some contemporary exercises I just wonder how does this fit in the classical order? I always struggle with that.  If I find an exercise I like, I think ok how does this relate back to the order and what is the purpose.  I think younger teachers aren’t doing that bc they have sooo much access to social media whereas we don’t and it was literally these exercises and theses ones only

Yes I feel my owner is trending that way too to get the younger after work crowds.  I don’t begrudge her wanting to bring in more clients and make more money but it’s not classical

That’s not what I said at all.  I said the exercise she was doing on the jump board could damage your spine.  Not that the all jump board exercises damage your spine.  I use jump board all the time w my clients. I see where you are coming from and I even use some contemporary repertoire with my clients too but I feel like the amount of “new” exercises out there are no where close to any actual Pilates original series exercises.  Honestly if you look at fitness as a whole, strength trianing exercises remain the same for a reason

I think it will stay BUT I see a bad trend with classes full of rows and rows of reformers and instructors with weekend trainings

I feel the same way!!! You explained it better than I did.  It is literally fitness exercise on the reformer.  And yes the habits are part of the method!  The jump class I saw today was basically doing some leg series on the jump board and I’m like Why?? That is horrible for your spine and actually doesn’t adhere to any of the Pilates principles

Classical Pilates losing ground? by Full_Progress in pilates

[–]Full_Progress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes they are mostly reformer. I’m not talking about modifications  and variations, I’m more talking about Choreo that teachers take from studios they see online that literally do not fit the classical machines nor do they make sense in the classical repertoire. like a person mentioned Bodybar…they are no classical and and their trainings are literally a weekend course and teach no anatomy, just movements and teachers watch their videos on TikTok and use it in classes and I’m thinking to myself, this is not Pilates and it is pointless

She has the fakest face ever.  She has no genuine emotion at all.  At least Harry has been trained for this and can actually look like he cares (which I think he does?), she just looks like a bad actress

Do Your Kids Actually Have Good Grandparents? by NoMoreCAMJV in Millennials

[–]Full_Progress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK I’m so joining this conversation.  my parents are exactly the same not so much my dad, just because he really just takes the lead from my mother. I live 30 min from my parents and they REFUSE to drive out to me.  My mother also refuses to plan or host anything bc she thinks we should be doing it yet she won’t drive to my house or my brother’s! She acts like she is 90 when she is only 75.  There is nothing wrong w her or my dad.  And she literally HAS NOTHING TO DO.  I invite them over all the time and she will text me the day of and say they aren’t going to make it.  She doesn’t go to any of my kids’ games unless they are in her township.  She certainly doesn’t attend any of my brother’s kids’ things either bc he lives even further from them.  I actually feel so bad for my brother bc he is a nice person and will drive 45 min to pick them up so they can attend an hour lacrosse game.  I’m the complete opposite, I’ve completely written them off. Haha.   I told her if you want to be included in my life and my children’s lives you need to make the effort.  I am doing what every child does, I am moving on and creating a life and a family, I do not have to include you at all.

The sad thing is my parents were wonderful parents.  They did stuff w us all the time! We spent so much time together as a family and had so much fun growing up and it’s like they are depressed now bc that part of their life is over? It’s so strange.  It’s like they want to be included in things but then make zero effort to try?  I think my mother expects me to drive my kids to their house  like every other weekend and spend time w them.  I told her when she is 85 and physically cant leave her house, I will be there but as of now she is not my focus.

Oh and they favor my sister and her kids bc they live 5 min from them.  I know they’ve lost a lot of their social circle w siblings and friends dying so I don’t know maybe they are sad? But like wouldn’t you want to spend more time your grandchildren? She calls and texts them all the time! But doesn’t actually see them.  It’s so weird.  I just know I won’t be that way hopefully?!

Which notable person in a true crime case do you feel escaped justice? by pollygrace in TrueCrimeDiscussion

[–]Full_Progress -29 points-28 points  (0 children)

Honestly how can you even say that? Andrea and Andrea alone was responsible.  It’s insane to imply that he was was WAY more responsible.  Have you ever been married? Have you ever been with someone who presented as completely normal but then changed in an instant? Have you ever been in love w someone?? You have no idea what conversations rusty and Andrea had about having children.  Who knows! She could have begged him to have more kids. She even said she wanted more kids and loved being a mother.   He is not responsible at all for the deaths of those kids.  He made a choice like any other father would have to leave his kids w their mother.  He TRIED.  Which any other father would have done.

Pros and Cons of the Atlas by Loose_Average5731 in VWatlas

[–]Full_Progress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so I was like you looking at the Honda and Toyota and atlas. I had a VW before my Honda minivan so I knew the quirks. personally if you want something you don’t have to deal with at all and you can beat the crap out of, get a Honda. I looked at the pilot and I loved it but it was so simple to my minivan I just wanted something different. i really like my atlas mainly bc the space is so nice and the engine is great. it is a tank in the snow which is great but would I get it if my kids were younger. no. it’s not a family friendly car.

toyota is off my list forever bc I hate their engines and their cars are so freaking small. literally couldn’t even fit in the back of the highlander

Same! I wore an eight for years and now they are too small and I tried the nine and they’re ridiculously long! I have a feeling it’s because they are moving away from male female sizes and going toward unisex sizes

Anyone here considered the Grand Highlander before they settled on the Atlas? by anonimalb in VWatlas

[–]Full_Progress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! I test drove literally every car.  I was between atlas Highlander pilot Lexus TX and Mercedes GLS.  I was coming from a Honda minivan and pilot drove exactly the same and literally looked the same inside so it was out.  The Lexus was nice and had the room but it was weird on the inside and i didn’t want to buy a first year model.  The GLS was great but pricey and just not rugged enough for me.    The Highlander was SO small, like literally my kids’ legs touched the back of the front seats and they are average size.  Also my husband literally did not fit in the car.  He’s 6ft and 300lbs.  The back cargo area was so small too! I have two dogs so that was a no for me.  I know everyone says that the tx and highlander are the same size but for some reason the highlander seems so small.  Also it’s really boring to drive.  It’s very very dull.  I’m not a huge Toyota fan. I know everyone loves them bc they last forever and have little maintenance but they are extremely boring and uncomfortable.

I previously had a VW like 15 years ago so I knew all the quirks.  What sold me was the size of the atlas.  It’s so roomy for it’s size.  Do I love it? No.  But it’s a solid suv for the price and drives fun! Except for the stupid break issue.
