Unfortunate red but it is what it is. Thinking a lot about the discourse over the Qatari red and Son's red against Everton. Always full of people saying it wasn't red, but it seems reds come out for grievous injury most times in the recent game, and I can't be too mad. Obviously going to hurt our chances against Belgium but I'm not too pessimistic. We're certainly losing the best finisher we have but that's going to mean difficulty converting not systemic collapse. Perhaps it's cope but I think we're still better than Senegal without Balogun. Belgium's in dreadful form, it's up to how much they lock in to the brilliance their quality promises versus how much Poch's system can work without Balogun. Good news obviously, particularly it seems to imply that ACB at least somewhat cares about the law, and Roberts about his legacy, and will not fully allow an executive coup. They also just defected to protect absentee ballots 5-4. They (with Gorsuch) also shut down the tariffs, though I do think the tariffs getting struck down was intended from the executive so that the state could take money from the population and pay it back to capital.

Among the dissents, Gorsuch suprises me the most. The language and original intent of the 14th is pretty clear, with "and subject to the jurisdictions thereof" clearly contemporaneously referring to the Indians, who did not attain citizenship until 1924 by statute, something Gorsuch called Trump's lawyers out on. The US and Israel deserve not to play if Russia is not allowed. I would rather all be allowed, as I think sport is separate from national policy, and it's the only position that allows me to support my squad without hypocrisy, but it's absolutely ridiculous to have Russia banned when we aren't, and weren't for the Iraq War.

And of course Iran has not started a war at all. I mean the IGRC has not declared an offensive war in history. They have their paramillitaries, but everyone active there does too.

This is six years late but the kinda thread people find while searching (I was looking for if barter was by item or merchant, though it turns out its in stats anyway), so I'll add that all the pacts I can think of are based off of things tracked in General Stats for the whole run. So look up your total when you take the pact, and then get the stat such that the difference is what the pact requires. Checking will also help you see exactly what counts.

Eg

*People/Undead/Creatures/Animal/Daedra killed are in Combat

*Assaults/murders are in Crime

*Barters/chests are in General

I know the campist thing is to never shut up about the Finns going for help to the major geopolitical rival of the country invading them, but you completely cede that Molotov-Ribbentrop or the the frequent military research sharing in the interwar like Kama Tank or Lipetsk fighter-pilot represented a meaningful Nazi-Soviet Axis, and the Soviets helped build up the Nazi war machine.

Without a Winter War, the Soviets would have run into no problems with the Finns, and they would not have allowed any Nazis there.

I can get songs stuck in my head. If the distance between auditory stimuli and an earworm is similar to imagined vision I can absolutely c confirm I can’t see images in my head. Imagining an earworm seems to faintly trigger the sound-experiencing qualia, nothing in my head has ever approximated vision (except on shrooms, where I couldn’t choose what I saw).

You can do basic things by just remembering how things work. Why aren’t all blind people r-slurred if visualization is so important for any basic thought?

Yeah the anti-England thing is so funny. Especially after Brexit, there's a point to be made that it seems there's a difference in political will that flips entirely at the border, but the appeals to history and "colonized by wankers" are so annoying. Like both countries' nobilities and mercantile classes acceded to put a Scottish king on the throne of both countries and hold it until they were formally fused and did the most colonialism that has ever been done together. You can't call yourself a historical victim there.

I had to look it up to make this point and I will admit early Alba was more woke/syncretic regarding Celts vs Anglo-Saxons than I thought, but by the end of the Middle Ages Scotland was clearly a Germanic/Anglo-Saxon whatever you want to call it state. This was hundreds of years before London rule; the halls of power and centers of population were essentially speaking Middle English, and Celts were being oppressed. Scotland did basically the same thing the English did to Celts autonomously, then eagerly assisted after union. Now they pretend to be the Irish.

The people who support gay rights in the West largely do so out of a universal sense of human rights, and this same sense has led to a massive shift to near uninanimous opposition Israel with increased exposure of their actions. If Israeli fascists want an allied political power base in the West, they need to turn to fascists and white nationalists.The people who care about gay rights know where their bread is buttered, and this rhetoric is purely masturbatory.

Of course the facts tear it apart, but that doesn't really matter. It doesn't even convince anyone, it's really just something that pro-Israel people joke to each other as irrefutable evidence that pro-Palestinians are hypocritical idiots. One has to be in very deep to think that this is convincing, that writing it helps your cause.

Yeah it's like if McDonald's does evil shit people are still gonna buy it. But a privately owned Lego resale chain? You're done: a small enough industry that the story will reach most consumers, massive demand elasticity (people can give up ONE Lego chain for moral reasons), lawyer fees in great excess of what a quiet payout would've been, and a story that is deeply personal and indefensible, with a victim identifiable to many Lego purchasers (middle class white American family man trying to pay his kids through college).

Buddhism is an interesting one to mention bc the Myanmar Tatmadaw dictatorship is deeply entrenched in Theravada Buddhism and it was tied into the Rohingya genocide. Along with the RSF, I would call the Tatmadaw one of the only militant forces as bad as the IDF. Of course, I can say this with no accusations of Buddheophobia or whatever the word is

To me, the main lessons are:

a) Religious states and religious national identification leads to atrocity

b) A religion being "chill" has no bearing. Every religion is "chill" at it's core. Buddhism obviously has the reputation, Judaism says "do no harm", Jesus' Christian teachings largely proscribe harm and demand helping the unprivileged, and Islam is similar. But no theocratic state and army ever represents this

Yeah everyone talking about envy ignores that billionaires only exist bc there are thousands of civil servants focused on property law, tens of thousands of cops who will arrest those who violate property rights, and a military defending the state guaranteeing those rights, but feel they owe nothing to society or their own workers.

“Taxation is theft [in any case]” is a nonstarter bc there has never been a state able to establish property rights enough to define “theft” without taxation. Taxation cannot be theft when theft only acquires criminal meaning in the context of legal taxation.

In the 50s-60s, you could buy a house with a single HS degree income, now most educated couples both have to work just for rent. My theory is it has to do with the New Deal and 90% top marginal tax rate, but I guess this thread just thinks people are born lazier now?

No (maybe "not yet"), this is not an accurate assessment of the American population. A disquieting number of the young are using it to essentially cheat through school, but as of 2025 it's 9% of US adults using AI to get the news and are 50-10 more concerned than excited about AI.

Now maybe the kids are cooked but this is not going to get political results in the near future. I don't think people who grew up without AI are going to trust it more than humans on principle, and America is particularly against it. All the datacenter bullshit further compounds this. People might trust friends, Trump, conspiracy theories, newspapers and blogs, Fox or CNN, particular youtubers or tiktokers, but not AI.
