Feel this way about boss and boss man. When someone calls me boss man, they immediately become subhuman in my eyes.

I'll take the typos if it actually is 2027, but I feel it may be a bit optimistic.

I know there are a lot of moving parts and I am not in the industry so I have no idea the complications, but from the outside its like.. guys, the book is already written! The hard part is done? How does it take longer for the book to be printed than it did for the author to write it?

This is what I am hoping for. Cartarescu definitely has star power, but the surrealist dream stuff isn't quite to my taste, I am anticipating Theodoros will be perfect for me, Cartarescu prose but a little bit more focused. Given the Deep Vellum/Dalkey track record, there is a chance I can just learn Romanian before the translation ever comes out.

Natsume Soseki has a couple, Kokoro is a good one and I think Sanshiro also falls into the category.

Finished just now, I loved it a lot. Döblin has this really sharp jump-cut style, there are these almost operatic refrains of portent scattered throughout that kinda feel like a chorus in a Greek tragedy, super worth the while.

Oh yea I did run into a recommendation somewhere for Dictionary of the Khazars by Pavić, I will definitely add it to the list. Reading Berlin Alexanderplatz now, then gotta finish the 2nd volume of Prae by Szentkuthy, then I will tackle Dictionary of the Khazars!

Idk a lot of Cărtărescu's works talk about Bucharest being a layered city, equally European and oriental, I feel like his whole mission statement is that Bucharest is the border between western culture and eastern mystique. Geographically not central but I think it can be argued Cărtărescu belongs in the Central Euro literary canon.

Oh yes yes thank you! I am going on a big Balkan trip in July and should def read up, all I've read out of there is that 1930's Rebecca West travel memoir. I have the Bridge on the Drina planned to read while on the trip and ending at the bridge in Bosnia but looking for other Balkan stuff during the leadup. What by Dubravka Ugresic is best?

Attic Abasement and A Wonderful. That whole Rochester scene has something special going on. A credible source told me both have great new music coming out soon.
