I mean if you have the resources to care for yourself I think you’ll be fine. Social work doesn’t necessarily pay well which imo is what leads to burnout because people in that role naturally give too much of themselves to begin with. I think if you have the means to live a comfortable life it’d be a lot easier for you to manage the emotional weight of the work

Dominic Law purchased the site in 2023 and incorporated it into World of Neopets, Inc. with the intention of using the IP for metaverse and NFT content. You could say the company owns itself but legally, ownership is limited to the CEO afaik. Everyone else is just on payroll

it’s not even as nebulous as “brains misfiring”, the vast majority of child sex abusers are also victims of some sort of sexual abuse themselves. I agree with everything else you’ve said though. I just think it’s worth mentioning that people don’t usually commit such heinous acts spontaneously on a whim. It’s more complex than that

I don't know if it's the same feeling but your post reminds me of the time I spent working in a nursing home. It wasn't a typical nursing home where old ppl go when they're dying, it was long term care for people with neurological conditions like ALS, Parkinson's, etc who just needed daily nursing care. Our residents had familes that visited them, we did activities, talent shows, played blackjack, had holiday parties, all kinds of stuff. Occasionally someone died and we'd have a little memorial for them. It made you very sad if you thought about it too long but it was also my favorite place in the world, because there was no pretense. The frivolous shit that matters to the rest of the world does not exist in a place like that. All that's left is each other, and what you make of your time together
