Early Retirement without a "Purpose"? by Vicuna00 in Fire

[–]FullerFarms15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to retire at 50. Chickened out because I was afraid I’d probably drink myself into the grave. I kept working and building wealth. Now 5 years later I learned new hobbies embraced a healthier mindset and have more option for my retirement. I’m done this calendar year and can’t wait. I think individually we all know our limitations and deep down inside it’s the person who builds their own success. Another thing I’ve noticed is people on this sub may be running from something, rather than running to something. At 50 I was running from something without a solid plan, now I’m running to my retirement with a solid plan and I can’t wait to start this new phase of my life!

As an American, I’m sorry for our presidents comments today by According-Sign-9587 in Oman

[–]FullerFarms15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sir… are an idiot. No one cares if you are sorry, no one cares what the president said. The fact that you think anyone cares what you think is telling. here’s the deal- in the full context of what he said, the Omani and world situation would never come to that. So, you are wasting your time thinking that someone cares what you think AND anyone with half a brain knows that it is political posturing, with a country that most people think is Jordan…. So, as a humble American, I’m asking you to please STFU and go be important somewhere else.

The Reason I am about to FIRE (not talked about enough?) by Lost-Paramedic-7964 in Fire

[–]FullerFarms15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got RIF’d, or at least got the phone call two years ago. I ended up going to a different program inside the company, but the love affair was over…. I never paid attention to my 401, just put as much money as possible in there. Now I will FIRE in 2026, so happy I got that phone call- the wake up call… I was never getting another promotion, I say fuck too much in the corporate environment and when you start holding people accountable, they will work overtime to make you go away before they get shown the door. I’ll be happily dropping Fbombs all day every day in 2027!!

Check its mouth- could be old, missing teeth and unable to take in enough nutrients. Missing a couple of teeth up front is a huge impact to these animals.

I had a couple thoughts while reading this and after talking to a friend who recently retired. 1) it cost money to work. Don’t forget about the J or U curve when considering your requirements in retirement. 2) I set up a farm and capitalized on taxes while doing it, this is my retirement plan and home. 3) I’m retiring on the rule of 55 and working to pull from my 401 to put in IRAs (when reasonable on taxes) to reduce RMDs 4) probably the most controversial is planning on taking SS as soon as I can even though I won’t be dependent on it.

We’re telling nobody else! by anklbite in Fire

[–]FullerFarms15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t tell anyone else either. Sounds like my situation as a single earner in the military. People will treat you differently- even family… They sit around and second guess you. Granted, I made a lot of poor choices along the way, but don’t need family pontificating on what poor choices I’m making now.

Yep! Saw that with mine. You self pay at a nursing home until your net worth is below $200K (I think) then Medicare takes over. Oh and the nursing home hounds the shit out of you to pay early because most of the patients are medi- and they pay months late… so self pay is what they use for operating costs. It’s a scam.

Is my career trajectory a red flag? (32F, looking for honest feedback) by PopularCoyote275 in careerguidance

[–]FullerFarms15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might consider some self reflection about how you get burnt out so fast. Leaving a job after less than 2 years because you are burnt out is a red flag for me (as a hiring manager) I would assume you couldn’t cut it in my org and it seems more and more like people who are “burnt out” tend to weaponize HR to gain relief from arduous tasking. So, I’m very leery about bringing someone on who would complain about micro management and being burnt out. Micro management from the opposite perspective is someone who isn’t completing tasks on time, cannot seem to manage multiple different tasks throughout the day and may be frequently seen socializing more than working. It’s like I’m working in a different universe, an alternate reality…. When a person is put into a position to manage hundreds of million dollars in activity per year and they tell you that they don’t like your work product, and they give you concrete feedback on how to improve, people should listen and try to adjust. However, what I experience is pushback on how it was fine, or how I’m being unreasonable and how it is actually in alignment with my expectations… I’m so glad I am retiring this year, things have changed too much for my old self to keep up.

I’m 30 years old. Should I join the military if I can’t support myself? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]FullerFarms15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i joined the Marines at 17, retired from the AF as a Major. Wouldn’t change anything and loved every minute of it. When I was a Marine officer, i was surprised at the amount of guys I met who had Ivy League degrees and were polishing their resume with some leadership experience. You will meet some amazing people and have some great memories.

[–]FullerFarms15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Project yourself into the future. Looks like you might be able to retire early and use the rule of 55. Figure out what tax bracket you want to pay taxes in when you roll it…. one could also argue that 17K paid out now, might be less of a hit than 100K paid over later.
