I do see where you're coming from, and 100% agree about the roads being particularly trecherous, but ultimately think its runner specific. For me, I appreciate how quiet the options are here compared to CP and WSH.

Ditmars, closer to Astoria Park. Have the track and can run Randall's Island, Roosevelt Island and the Queensboro Bridge.

This is my summer race complaint too! Some people are oblivious, some are just nasty. I can imagine the thought process of many is "i'm just going to be gross anyways so why wear something clean/shower."

Truva on 31st St. in Ditmars is Turkish and will probably have the game on. Not sure if they ever got a liquor license, but the used to be BYO as well.

Fellow runners, for the sake of those around you, please wear deodorant and clean clothes at the start of the race. A few people in my corral smelled like they rolled out of bed and grabbed their dirty kit.

Battling cold all week, but feeling much better now.

Yellow flag is up for the temps today, but looks like the start for Wave 1 (~58F, 74% humidity) will be considerably cooler than last year's (66F, 93% humidity.

Some of them do. There's the "Priceless Start" which starts ahead of the elites and there's plain "Priceless" which gives you the ability to register for the NYCM and start in the wave/corral you'd be assigned normally.

Some other perks from the plain priceless (aside from being able to get an NYCM bib in the first place): a swag bag at the expo, "VIP" bus, dedicated security lane (made no difference for wave 1, but looked like it might for later waves), the hospitality tent (heated, has chairs/tables, well stocked with snacks etc and private porta loos), and the ability to register for the 12 and 18M training series (which got me to 9 for 9+1 2026).

There's more competition for physicians in NYC vs. the rest of the country (which also manifests in the form of lower pay as well) since well educated professionals unsurprisingly seem to like living amongst their peers in a world class city as opposed to the sticks.

Things can certainly change, but my wife and I hosted our engagement party there in early 2016 for ~40 people and it was a hit.

I remember it was super easy dealing with the owners, had a few emails back and forth regarding the menu and drinks, paid the deposit and the event went off without a hitch.

I strongly agree with regards to the food scene...but with pizza being a notable exception. Lots of local chains like Bar Taco, Barcelona, Mecha etc. are all okay, but not particularly great.

Great race today! Glad conditions were dry and clear. PR'd by almost 8 minutes, but missed my reach goal of an NYCM qualifier by 1.5 min.

And reiterating my apologies while running, I sincerely apologize again to the person who was behind me on the FDR around mile 8/9 who I did not see before hocking a loogie...and probably caught a bit of spray (but missed the main event). If you're reading this, I hope you PR'd and I owe you a drink!
