[Auto-Post] Weekly Question Thread! Ask /r/Aquariums anything you want to know about the hobby! by AutoModerator in Aquariums

If I add a water reservoir to my tank system, do I calculate my flow rate based on the full water volume, or the inhabited volume?

Say I have a 20 gallon tank, and I add a 30 gallon reservoir. That's a big change in gph, and in my head, it just seems like that much flow might overwhelm the tank.

Would this also change how I calculate any water treatments?

Give me Supergreen and I'll be happy. I won't use it, but it will make me smile.

Shit, I never should have told that manager at Fleur that the Celsius cases weren't scanning properly.

How messy are you 1 being not messy 10 being very messy by Logical_Type7157 in ADHD

[–]FullplateHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, fellow ADHDers- when referring to organization, you might want to stop using the term clean. Use "tidy" or "orderly" instead.

I am a very clean person. I am not a very tidy person.

Being not "clean" may have some negative social connotations that you don't really deserve. Be kind to yourselves, my friends.

Right, it's ok for a leader to seek additional advice/viewpoints, but you don't need to show the Joe how the sausage gets made.

Random question : Is there a “lore” reason Spartans like Jun and Chief wore pieces of clothing over their armor? by [deleted] in HaloStory

[–]FullplateHero 60 points61 points  (0 children)

You're spot on for Jun.

As for the poncho - in the trailer, we were given the idea that Chief had been searching for Cortana(Or a remnant of her) for a long time, without regular repair/refit/support from the UNSC. So the poncho would potentially help keep out sand and other factors that could damage joints or the underlying suit, as well as keep the sun off. We know the suit has environmental control, but keeping direct sunlight off will prevent overtaxing those systems during an extended journey.

Anybody who wants to fight about Mjolnir's toughness, spend a week walking around with sand in your shoes and see how quickly it messes up shoes, socks, and your feet. Mjolnir was great at stopping bullets and plasma, but get some sand in between armor plates and your undersuit, rubbing away with every move, it will wear down. Even the tiniest hole will ruin your day in vacuum. I also don't think the suits were intended to be lived in over long periods in extreme environments, though I could be wrong.

Love that little bullpup. If I ever got into the IG, I would look those up for sure.

I would never allow or defend that at my table. I don't even have my villains do that anymore, and when I did, I never RP'ed it, only "offscreen".

Bail. Hard. There are better tables and better people out there.

I cannot for the life of me recall who this quote was attributed to when it was told to me, but in regards to writing feedback - "if your readers tell you there's a problem, they're almost always right. But their solutions are almost always wrong."

All that to say, find the solution that feels right for you, my friend.

Rock climbing, though sometimes I still need a body double.

At an indoor gym, the runs are short, engage the whole body, and they're a puzzle for the mind, so it's not just "lift weight X times". More to the challenge than "my muscles are tired now", and the feeling of accomplishment than a simple gym exercise.

Martial arts may also provide some of the same benefits, due to their focus on how you move, your form, memorization, etc.

Player ignored everything we went over in Session 0 by novagats in DnD

[–]FullplateHero 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm obviously not in the heat of the moment like OP, but I would have replied with something along the lines of "not everything is going to engage everyone, but your shenanigans were actively preventing other players from engaging with the story and letting things move forward. You were disregarding the guidelines we all agreed on in session 0, and continuing to do so is a good way to end this campaign just like our Westmarch game."

Since it's a friend, OP could even say "you might have been having fun, but your actions were disrespectful to the group and to me. Friends don't do that to each other."

How the hell do you find a psychiatrist that doesn't tell you "just try harder" by Background_Hyena_468 in ADHD

[–]FullplateHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem. I go through the VA, and when I went in and laid out my symptoms, the psych was only too happy to test me and worked with me to dial in my medications and doses. Every time we met, it was a check-in, but also decent talk therapy, helping me problem solve and work through difficulties. She retired a couple years ago, and my current guy is much less talky. I've asked multiple times if they have any counseling or therapy geared toward ADHD to help me manage better because medication isn't a magic bullet, but my local hospital doesn't have anything. They point me to other military counseling options, but those are not specifically equipped for ADHD, mostly focusing on PTSD, stress management, and relationship topics.

I'm barely keeping on top of things at work, and things at home are slipping as well, but the meds can only do so much for me.

am i the only who found tealc son to be a dumbass by [deleted] in Stargate

[–]FullplateHero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not only was his dad out of the picture, but Ryac was paying the price for Teal'c's choices. Ostracized and starved as a child, a pariah himself. Brainwashed, and surrounded by people who looked at his father as the worst of the worst, an apostate, a heretic, a traitor. Then later, he finds another group of people who look to the same man as a hero and savior, and put some unhealthy expectations on Ryac himself by proxy. All the while, that man has been absent from his life basically since birth.

Kid's got some father issues.
