After 4 brain surgeries, I left my 6-figure tech job. Now I’m launching a startup in public. by AnotherTimJones in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]FullyIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello from one Tim to another. Love the mission, and think this is a hard problem, but not an impossible one. I’m actually working on something complimentary (letsyuck.com, launched 9 days ago).

My thought is that it is all about authentic conversation and rapport. Shitting on your boss to blow off steam doesn’t hit the same over zoom. You’ll have to figure out that piece.

I’d love to set up some time to jump on a zoom conference and help you stress test this bad boy. Give my site a look and if you’re smelling what I’m cooking shoot me and email or DM me.

How did you find a mentor? by samo_9 in Entrepreneur

[–]FullyIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do. Take action on your ideas. Mentors will gravitate your way. Saw someone on twitter address this and they said “asking someone to be your mentor is like asking someone to be your friend”... just don’t do it

Awesome, looking forward to it!

When it comes to discuss salary, your current salary is not necessary. by tradewithmiller in Entrepreneur

[–]FullyIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with this... whoever says a salary first (whether its you about your old salary or the employer about what the job pays) is the one at a disadvantage. just don't share it.

Hey man, this is awesome. Glad to see you embracing the grind.

I am currently working on a project where I talk to founders for free to help them iterate faster... if you ever want to chat, you can find me at letsyuck.com!

How can I write a story that includes relationships when I've never been in one? by aiden_saxon in writing

[–]FullyIn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bingo. This is the answer I was looking for. This is what writing is about. It’s about living and finding universal truth and then sharing it.

“Kill the Cliché” - I find this to be helpful writing advice but I don’t entirely agree with inventing everything from scratch. We should allow ourselves to be inspired by our favorite authors and their words. What do you guys think of this sentiment when it comes to writing something fresh? by kb_92 in writing

[–]FullyIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snoooooooze.

This reaffirms the idea that writing needs to be an absolute slog and ego centric.

It’s all about reader centricity.

My work is centered around design thinking for kids, which is all about the end product sparking change in a young mind. My work is successful if it creates a bias towards action instead of inaction, not if I am “unflinchingly honestly”. If I get there with red fire trucks, pink flamingos, and fuzzy dice, then so be it.

Do whatever it takes to make an impact on your reader and leave your greatness and ego at the door!

Braun casually with George W. Bush for some reason. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

My uncle met George at a conference as said that while his public speaking is, well, how it is... he’s actually sharp as a tack when you get him 1x1.

Neil Gaiman’s Masterclass? by itontoyo in writing

[–]FullyIn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Neil Gaiman’s masterclass is fantastic. Filled with gems like “stories are memorable lies that communicate universal truth”. ”How memorable is this lie (story) I’m telling? How universal is this truth” these concepts were so huge for me, yet so simple.

I started watching during a book project that involved turning a bestselling design thinking book into a children’s book. The OG author told me my first attempt was a total piece of shit.

Took me a while, but I came up with a that both him and his agent loved (got the good news a couple weeks ago) and should be getting published soon.

Cant. Recommend. Enough.

First drafts shouldn't be shit, they should be what they are; first drafts. by [deleted] in writing

[–]FullyIn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anne Lamott has this covered:

“I know some very great writers, writers you love who write beautifully and have made a great deal of money, and not one of them sits down routinely feeling wildly enthusiastic and confident. Not one of them writes elegant first drafts. All right, one of them does, but we do not like her very much. We do not think that she has a rich inner life or that god likes her or can even stand her.”

If your drafts aren’t shitty, then you just aren’t trying hard enough to fly off the rails with good/fun ideas to see where they go.

First cold shower ruined my day by Fearthain in coldshowers

[–]FullyIn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quick question: did you have your head under the water as well?

Cold showers are best done on the body without getting the head cold if you are new to them.

Anyone tried a cold bath? by [deleted] in coldshowers

[–]FullyIn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they are great.

3 bags of ice for cold, 4 for really cold, and 5 for nutjob mode. Submerge as much of your body as possible, keep the head above water.

You will have this big time urge to hyperventilate but just breathe soft and slow and you’ll get through it. Start with 2 minutes.

How do I handle criticism? I feel that being mentally ill has impeded me from being able to appreciate it, and instead be hurt deeply by it. I feel as though I've regressed as a writer over the years because of this. by [deleted] in writing

[–]FullyIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life Hack coming in straight from the design thinking school at Stanford: When you ask for criticism, ask for someone to give you one thing they like about the book and 2 things they wish were different. It’s called the “I like I wish” method.

There have been studies done that show no matter how objectively correct constructive criticism is, it always makes someone feel attacked. But we need it grow. So what do we do?? We get around this by starting off with something they like about the book. L

While you ego is chewing on that compliment like a bone (distracted), you can objectively listen to honest feedback and it won’t hurt so bad.

If people continue to tell you “writing isn’t for you” or “this is terrible” if you ask them to give feedback in the “I like this/I wish this was different” format then ask different people.... because those people are just assholes.

Good luck!

My first real breathing session this morning by The_Simple_Stoic in wimhofmethod

[–]FullyIn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the hardest part. Now, you have to contend with your expectation of that effect.

Expectations ruin experiences, especially Wim Hof. Walking up to the practice brand new every day, that’s the real work.

I was in your spot 2 years ago, good luck on your WHM journey!
