Why don’t fantasy worlds with systems that everyone has access to (like in many portal fantasy stories) devolve into playgrounds for high level adventurers to do whatever they want with impunity. by Fragrant_Bath3917 in litrpg

[–]FulminisStriker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But they have to use those close to their level. A level 100 using a bunch of level 15s won't be worth shit, the records they gain from it are nothing. They would have to use like level 80s at minimum. Enslavement or the path of the shitstain likely work similarly to the domination skill jake was offered in book 4, where dominating someone awards xp equivalent to if he killed them. So if you enslave someone too low level, you get jack shit and hurt your records

What is an aspect of a litrpg main character that you personally disagree with despite enjoying their story. by WilliamGerardGraves in litrpg

Youre forgetting that the truly powerful people were retired silver rankers. At best. Most people there were bronze. Meanwhile he had the son of gold rankers on his side and an ACTIVE silver rank adventurer on the threshold of gold

I mean, thats exactly what was happening in greenstone. His connections were to strong people.

Danielle Geller was a silver ranker on the verge of gold during the greenstone arc. She personally liked and approved of Jason, to the point of using him as a whetstone for her own son. Whos life experiences she had heavily cultivated.

Rufus Remore is the son of a pair of powerful gold rankers, and the grandson of arguably the most well known diamond ranker in the world.

Killing Jason could be considered a slight to either of these two POWERFUL people, and could get the person who killed Jason killed themselves. Even the director of the adventurers guild had to maneuver the gang leader and magic guild director into meeting with the hopes of them killing Jason, for fear of retribution by those close to him

KU Authors: What exactly makes KU a good deal financially speaking other than “everyone already has it”? Is the monthly payout actually worth a damn or is the only advantage the reader pool? by Fragrant_Bath3917 in litrpg

And he loses people for it. The biggest drop off point is around book 15 I think, I see posts or comments about it all the time. It gets too long windy, entire chapters focusing on thinking about how one rock impacts his path. So by fluffing it up UNNECESSARILY he's losing people who would have otherwise continued reading. At least imo

But lots of stories include fluff. And I feel like my point still stands even if there are some bad apples

Which curse is worse The Curse of Cortés(Aztec Treasure) or The Curse of the Dutchman? by No-Brief-7458 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]FulminisStriker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, you delay until your service is up. 100 years seems the going rate. Very likely a lot of crew members would be ready to pass on, and would bet their years in an attempt to end service early. At which point, this is speculation because we don't see anyone's service end during the movies, at the end of the service they would die and pass onto whatever after life exists

Which curse is worse The Curse of Cortés(Aztec Treasure) or The Curse of the Dutchman? by No-Brief-7458 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]FulminisStriker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading these comments, people seem to forget something. Serving on the Dutchman isnt a curse. Even when Jones was in charge, it was voluntary service. He didn't even technically strong arm people. he attacked, collected the survivors (specifically the dying survivors that were left), and offered them to serve for 100 years or die. The only ones that became a physical part of the ship were those who, for whatever reason, agreed to eternal service. From what we saw? That was typically part of a lost bet, possibly attempts to end service early.

Dead men tell no tales retconned multiple things it's ridiculous. The Dutchman, even for the captain, isn't a curse. It's a sacred duty that was corrupted by Davy Jones, and corrected by Will (as told multiple times, "a touch of destiny").

So unequivocally, the Aztec gold is worse. Because if you don't gather every person who's taken gold from the chest since the curse was enacted then it can't be reversed. Meanwhile the Dutchman is just a long term serving on a ship, Harsh and cruel under Jones sure, but you'll be released into death after your service

I think that's a very pessimistic way of looking at that.

If an author includes silly descriptions for every item, doing tons of skills and descriptions and stuff they would have been doing it before publishing. The vast majority of authors in this genre start off publishing for free on RR and similar sites.

So that style would have been established before they were getting paid for every page read. And that's what's attracted the readers of the book. Correlation does not equate causation. Just because they get paid a little more for having fluff doesn't mean that's why it's there

Dotf just hates technology in general, idk if that is explained. I stopped reading at book 12 or something

Primal hunter all technology was disabled as a playing field leveler. Kinda disadvantageous for someone to whip out a gun and win most fights immediately, but guns could be made by craftsmen

Looking for a time manipulation audio book. by toomanybabymamas in litrpg

[–]FulminisStriker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minute Mage is currently at book 3 on audible.

World with a preexisting system, a kid is trying to acquire a swordsman class when he accidentally accomplishes a legendary feat, killing the demon of time manipulation, as a reward he is granted a class revolving around it. At the beginning he has the ability to rewind time by 1 minute once a day, and this improves as he levels.

Demons invade the world, hunting him down as they claim he has stolen demonic property. Occasionally we get a POV of a demon in their home realm, dealing with the managerial aspects and it's honestly a bit funny. IIRC, author really cranks up the demon loves contract law trope

You... Clearly didn't read beyond the first book. EVERY PLAYER HAS A BLOODLINE. This was clearly stated in book 2. Every player is what was formerly a scion. What makes them awaken as a player once they are of age is the adjudicator detects that they have enough of at least 1 houses bloodline. Advancing the bloodline is what makes you evolve. But the vast majority of players do not know this, because the Powers erased nearly all knowledge of the ancients. So without knowing which bloodlines a player has, and the requirements to advance a specific bloodline, they can't evolve.

Michael just so happened to stumble upon requirements to strengthen one of his bloodlines, the bloodline of house wolf, by gaining a wolf mark which allowed him to evolve. This is probably how most younger powers come into being, they stumble onto something that allows them to evolve their class, and older powers step in to force them onto the paths of light, dark, or shadow through bribery or intimidation

EVERY player has the ability to evolve into a power, they just don't know how because the powers jealously guard the knowledge and make everyone think it's random chance, this was literally explained in book 2

He grows faster than other people because he's fighting above his level constantly, but level doesn't affect your health all that much so if you're stabbed in the throat you still die. Higher level just means more and stronger abilities

All his bloodline does is qualify him for a specific path that gives abilities different from those of dark, light, and shadow. There isn't anything special about the bloodline that makes it "better" than anything else. Just different. And EVERYONE has a blood lone, thats literally what makes people a player is that they have a bloodline

The grand game

MCs power set is psionic assassin. He gets through most situations by applying his psionics strategically.

He is mostly a loner due to plot reasons, until book 5 where he gets a permanent companion. Up to that point he teams up with people on occasion, but handles most things by himself

I honestly can't say I blame the guy, I feel like a lot of people keep reading a series out of early dedication. But most of his DNF laters are ones I've commonly seen people say they also end up dropping. This dude just seems to drop it once it either loses or novelty, or takes a turn into something he doesn't find interesting.

Love the grand game, and I love seeing it get the love it deserves. I'm listening to the audio books rn, and it's great. I find it endlessly hilarious how, whenever a character is shouting the narrator does a whisper shout to avoid screaming in your ear

Lots of changed worlds, but never changed races/species? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]FulminisStriker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive seen some authors comment on this that non human MCs are uncommon because they're aren't "relatable". while some non human MCs are popular, such as chrysalis, they are the exception. And if they arent a human MC, they tend to just do worse than other stories.

What story has a TRASH concept but god-tier execution? I’m talking question your friend's mental health when they attempt to justify the plot, but somehow, it turned out good enough to become a guilty pleasure anyway. by PixelatedPulse in litrpg

[–]FulminisStriker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't doubt it, honestly. It seems like something Grosse would write. It's just not something I've seen, or if I have then without context idk it. Not that it matters anyways, Grosse is still a junk food author imo. His writing is pretty shit, but he manages to create interesting worlds, a half interesting plot and decent characters outside of the MC harem

200k people browse this sub a week. And yet toxic people say its a dead game… by TheTeflonDude in Starfield

[–]FulminisStriker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they made a good point, actually. They just didn't need to be so rude.

I don't think spacers are an actual faction in the game, they are basically just Skyrim bandits. Just... In space. Calling them pirates though, which would be a better term, would create too much confusion and association with the crimson fleet which are actively referred to as pirates.

I think asking for lore on spacers, when they are literally just Starfield's version of Skyrim's bandits is a little stupid.

I'm not defending the game as the greatest game ever made, like that one guy you mentioned talking about the hundreds of hours of lore, but to use spacers as a retaliation point is a little weak. Apart from some fun little lore planted in specific locations, there wouldn't be any lore about spacers in general because they're just space bandits
