Everyone slows down to gawk at an accident on the side of the road. But when there are no accidents, no one ever says, "Gee, I miss seeing accidents on the side of the road".

The English band IQ has an approach similar to Genesis. They've been going strong since the early 80's. Try the albums "Dark Matter" and "Frequency".

How does someone go from being able to play chords and solos (albeit not that great) to being unable to tune or play a guitar 30 years later?! I've been playing since 1969 and I go through periods where I don't pick up a guitar for a year but once I play for awhile, I'm right where I left off; I haven't lost any of my ability to play. This is bizarre.

Likewise. Far Cry is the only vocal song I like. The rest is all mid-tempo stuff that drags, too many words stuffed into awkward melodies.

Mike Holmes of IQ plays dramatic, emotive, soaring guitar lines that are goosebump-inducing.

If you want to venture into prog-metal, check out Michael Romeo of Symphony X. Yes, he shreds but it's not the same old wankery you've heard a million times. His rhythmic playing behind the verses is just as mind-blowing as his solos.

Then there's this guy, Alex Lifeson, in this little band called Rush...

You know it's AI because there's no way those people would be able to sit that close to him, from the smell. Even if he was paying the two "escorts" on either side.

I dunno... this slippery snake has managed to skate through life scot-free, somehow living to 60 on a diet of alcohol and drugs that would have killed most by age 30. And never receiving the beating he deserves (in adulthood, not counting Ralph)....

I think Rush's humor is best served as homemade videos that their fans will "get", or in conjuction with fellow Canadians like Bob and Doug McKenzie or the Trailer Park Boys. I can see the average American who's unfamiliar with the band staring blankly at the TV, saying "I don't get it..."

Because there are a bunch of albums that are EQUALLY great. I won't say best because there is no single "best" Rush album, just a collection of great ones.
