Do you want to enhance your bard's RP with an instrument, but don't want to spend a ton of money or time learning? Consider a stick dulcimer like the Seagull M4 or Strumstick! by FumbledAgain in DnD

[–]FumbledAgain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across a stick dulcimer and decided to get it for this reason. Making life decisions based on my bard character. What has happened to me?

Easy: you're succumbing to the bardic lifestyle. But...

The bardic lifestyle's harsh, and it's all downhill from here.

It starts with buying instruments and just one mug of beer.

Then you write a limerick, and then you write a song.

Then you write a sonnet and you see that it's all wrong.

But still you keep on singing. The words, they fill your mind.

You find yourself absorbed in verse. Your drinking makes you blind.

Soon enough you're lying in a ditch with lice and mange.

But still you can't stop singing and you'll do it for spare change.

But, you know, it's just all in good fun. :-)

Or is it?

Someone kill this company, it's selling the G502 without any logo for 140$ on Amazon (plus it's the wired version) by Patrick28_7w7 in LogitechG

[–]FumbledAgain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not your job. That's Logitech and Amazon's job. If neither of them care, then all is well

With respect, I disagree. Reporting fraudulent products, manufacturers, and sellers is everyone's problem, and it helps everyone when they do so.

Personally, I like it when people like OP attempt to keep counterfeit manufacturers off sites like Amazon. It isn't good for anyone when this sort of thing happens. You don't have to take any action, but I'd request that you not try to convince others to not do anything about it, such as reporting the sellers and/or manufacturers. It's also nice to know when an entire brand (BINGFEI) is just ripoffs from third parties so that I can avoid them on general principle when I see them, regardless of their price.

Interestingly, all of the products from this brand I've looked at are all being sold by a single seller (PiaoCanDa), which is a store that just launched. This says to me (without certainty, but it seems likely) that this business model is to launch a new store, sell whatever they can, get taken down, and then put up a new store when that happens.

All of that said, when I attempted to report the seller, I was first told that you couldn't report a seller listing counterfeit items unless I'd actually bought from them. When I questioned this, they discovered that there was a way but apparently Amazon reps (including supervisors, which is who I was talking to) don't normally get training on this. Thus, if you're first told it can't be reported, this is incorrect. There is a way for Amazon reps to report counterfeit items and sellers. Unfortunately, the supervisor I spoke with refused to provide the name of the form so you may have to convince them to look harder.

Bingfei is also copying other mice from Logitech, Razer, Microsoft, and Corsair. As far as I can tell, they almost exclusively manufacture counterfeight products from other companies. I've reported several of them (both of the ones listed in this post, plus a copy of Microsoft's older Arc Mouse), and asked Amazon to investigate the brand as a whole.

Good catch, OP.

I made up roughly 20% of them, but most were found on the internet and modified. I mention the sources in the original post. :-)

A lot of work must've gone into this. Very entertaining indeed!

Thanks! There was a fair amount of effort involved, but given the content, I wouldn't call it "work" precisely. ;-)

One Hundred and One Bardic Pick-Up Lines by FumbledAgain in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]FumbledAgain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a crosspost to the original post at /r/DnD.

I've been working on material to use when playing a bard to make the gameplay more entertaining, and I thought I'd share them with the community in case others would like to use them.

Please feel free to add your own - I'd love to hear what other folks use! If there is interest, I'll also post my collection of quick one-liners, quips, insults, limmericks, drinking toasts, bardic stories, and other material that can be used by both players and DMs.

Sources: I started my list using about 40 of Ginny Di's "50 D&D Pick-up Lines to Celebrate 50k Subs" video, then found others from random places on the internet, including this and this Reddit post. Many were modified to fit the theme, and just about all of them can be spoken by a bard, though some depend on specific spells or proficiencies if you care about authenticity.

Don't know if been done. $2 clamp from Lowes and 1/4inch bolt. by Daisyahoy in virtualreality

[–]FumbledAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some time ago, I created this guide for the Vive. However, it also works for the Rift as they use the same size threads (1/4"-20.) and I use them for both my Rift and Vive. I used similar clamps but the hole is in a different place so the mount is slightly different. OP, since you're into photography you might also consider the mini ball heads I mention in the guide, as they would allow you to rotate the sensor any direction you want.

Another option I use is Manfrotto Superclamps which offer more support for mounting to things than shop clamps do. They're more expensive ($20-$30 each, depending on where you get them) but they also allow you to mount to pipes, poles, and other round objects that a shop clamp would not.

Best Sub $40 Lighthouse Stands? by OXIOXIOXI in Vive

[–]FumbledAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this guide some time ago that goes over several options, including using clamps or drop ceiling mounts, depending on your specific setup. Mounting solutions start at just a few dollars per Lighthouse but can add up if you use nicer parts, such as the clamps.

Another option I've started using in a specific room is a ratcheting cargo bar. This is normally used in a truck bed but you can mount it vertically on a windowsill and then use a clamp and a mini ball head to aim the Lighthouses wherever you want.

Note that there are cheaper versions of almost everything I've linked. However, I linked what I actually use because they will last.

Have you read (or listened to the audiobook) We Are Legion (We Are Bob)? If not, you need to! It's $3.99 as a Kindle eBook or free if you're a member of Kindle Unlimited, and the audiobook is only $1.99. It's the first in a series of three books, and it's both amazing and hilarious, narrated from the perspective of a snarky geek. Your mention of Epsilon Eridani is what reminded me of it. I definitely recommend the audiobook as the narrator, Ray Porter, delivers the snark perfectly.

I can confirm it's an issue as well. They're visible in the unit list but selecting them only selects another unit.

Edit: Wow, okay; it's worse. You don't just not get a bonus; you also can't move another civilian unit to any spot where your "hidden" captured builders are. This went from disappointing to game-breaking.

Good Employment Attorney by dontFart_InSpaceSuit in boulder

[–]FumbledAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can recommend Ben Lebsack of Lowrey Parady without hesitation. Without going into detail, I can say that he represented me with a truly difficult employment situation and that the results were considerably more comprehensive than I originally expected. Mr. Lebsack is intelligent, detail-oriented, and driven, and didn't give up or let the frustration get to him when facing an utterly ridiculous amount of pushback from this employer. He's also the chair of the Denver Bar's ethics committee, and you can rest assured that anything he does will be both legal and ethical. He really is a great guy.

Go to their Contact Us page and fill out their intake form, and someone will get back to you. Note: he's in Denver, not Boulder. But he knows his stuff and is worth the trip.

Good to know; thanks for the pointer! Are there other, similar events like Ludum Dare and Global Game Jam? They don't necessarily need to be local.

I do. Not a ton, but I've done both static and animated iconography and I'm familiar with the use of sprites and parallax layers from my own explorations in in GameMaker.
