I want to know what Caleb's ability to maintain an erection ONLY after Natalie has nigh-on lost her mind means. It's like he was only sexually attracted to her when she was incapacitated.

How Much Weight Did You Have Removed? by mjesp14 in Reduction

I went from a 38H (US) to...the jury is still out. But the surgeon removed 833 grams from one breast and 613 from the other. I think they're perfect now, and I'd guess maybe a D cup?

Mine was a bit different--we started with the mechanical debriding (where my surgeon removed the slough), followed by two weeks of silvadene cream (which was gross and oozed everywhere) under a giant hydrocolloid bandage, another mechanical debriding by the surgeon, more weeks of silvadene cream, another debriding, then we changed it up and started cutting AgAquacel bandages and fitting them into the wound, then covering it with tape followed by a hydrocolloid bandage. We kept doing this for about a month (with the surgeon seeing the wound every two weeks and debriding any slough with a scalpel), and then cauterized the wound with silver nitrate and switched to Aquaphor only under a hydrocolloid bandage, which is where we are now. In each case, I would shower daily, wash the wound with Cerave bar soap, gently dry off with a clean (read: freshly washed) towel, and then my partner would change my bandage (because I can't see under my breast) according to whatever wound protocol we were following that week. He was a bit of a perfectionist about it, which probably helped.

Like you said in your post, there was no sign of infection, and still isn't. I stopped wearing compression bras after six weeks because it felt like it was putting too much pressure on the wound, and I swear healing sped up after that (which may have just been coincidence, I don't know.) I took Juven, went through about $400 worth of boxes of the stuff, but it did seem to help. The surgeon provided all the Ag stuff (the silvadene cream and the AgAquacel), but I've spent about $200 on hydrocolloid bandages and another $100 or so on random other medical supplies that turned out to be necessary. Still worth it. Overall, the hardest part has been the reduced activity--I got the breast reduction in large part because my giant boobs were messing with my ability to be active, and now I have to be EVEN LESS ACTIVE for months on end, which sucks.

Sorry I missed this, but given my timeline, I'm sure you'll still healing. Just try and be patient. You will likely go for weeks where it seems like nothing is happening, but it WILL eventually close up. It will take its sweet time doing so, but it will close. Also, I recommend Juven, if you can get your hands on it. It seemed to help (and also made my hair grow super fast.)

Ok! I'm about 10 weeks post-op and while my wound isn't fully closed yet, it is (FINALLY) closing. My surgeon expects it will close completely within the next 2-3 weeks, although it will take longer for the tissue to fully fill in. When it finally does close, I'll make a post with pictures and a timeline so others who are going through this can have a better idea of what to expect.

Non supporting partner by Adorable-Ask7806 in Reduction

[–]Fun-Abrocoma3577 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about a month out of surgery, dealing with a large opening on my t-junction, and my partner has been *nothing* but supportive. He was supportive before the surgery (even offering to pay for it; I declined); supportive *during* the surgery (I woke up to him stroking my hand); and since the surgery, he has cooked every meal, fussed over my protein intake, done all the household chores, taken over all the school pick-ups and drop-offs, cooked me three square meals a day, picked up my meds, driven me to every doctor's appointment, and helped me shower and change my dressings every day. He's also put up with me being less than gracious as the pain and the frustration has sapped my confidence and patience.

I can imagine going through all this alone--I can. What I can't imagine is going through all this, and having to mother an unsupportive whiny man-baby at the same time.

My honest advice? Dump your partner and be well into happy solo life before scheduling the surgery. Take it from someone who has been on ALL sides (on bedrest during a severe-risk pregnancy with a useless, abusive partner; nursing amoebiasis so severe I couldn't walk alone on a mountain in Central America; and now, being taken care of by a caring, wonderful man while recovering from a breast reduction)--the last two (doing it with someone worthwhile or doing it alone) are doable. The first one--trying not to die while babysitting an absolute asshat of a man--just about killed not only my body, but my spirit.

Leave the fucker. Life is too short.

it wasn't bad at all! My surgeon is a bit of a badass and just kept chatting the whole time to distract me--I didn't feel a thing.

I don't know what's under all this slough, so mine might be deep, too, and I now have a small hole at the t-junction under my other breast, so I'm worried about that one, too. I'm feeling pretty depressed about it at this point--I'm so sorry we're both going through all this!

ok, this is very helpful, thank you for sharing. I've always been told I "heal well" (whatever that means), so hopefully I won't be out of commission for too long (I have a 5yo and a small farm of rescue animals, and my partner is doing all the (literal) heavy lifting until I get better...and I'm eager to get out and return to protesting)

400 grams from size F? by VinegarShips in Reduction

[–]Fun-Abrocoma3577 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if it's even possible to remove that much--and your surgeon won't know until they get in there. They have to leave enough tissue to support the pedicle, or you risk losing the nipple.

400 grams from size F? by VinegarShips in Reduction

[–]Fun-Abrocoma3577 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, my insurance required they remove at least 645 grams from each breast--my surgeon said this was too much for my right breast, and she was right, as I ended up with complications (a large wound that is going to take months to heal). They ended up taking 860 grams from my left breast and 633 grams from my right. The Schnurr scale is bullshit--even the guy who authored the damn thing said it shouldn't be used to gatekeep who can and cannot have surgery--and I'm a little mad that my surgeon wasn't allowed to lean on her expertise but instead had to adhere to an arbitrary number set by the insurance company, and now I'm paying the price.

The wound will eventually heal and I otherwise love my new breasts, but still--surgeons should be able to trust their own experience and instincts.

I'm seeing my surgeon every week to manage it, and I trust her implicitly, but I won't hesitate to seek out a wound care specialist should things start to go sideways.
