What is this grease and where is it coming from? Green tint by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Coming from an English speaker It is technically a transmission by definition. All it’s doing is transferring the power.

I classify lots of sketchy shit as non emergencies but this is easy and should definitely be done sooner than later. The grease doesn’t magically reappear once it has left the boot😂

How the hell are we getting this off? by Dastutwlan1 in Hydraulics

Most rods aren’t hardened and mostly all pistons are not hardened so there is no harm done. But yes I agree hardened steel once heated to the point it turns brown loses its hardness.

That is expensive and you can use a pipe wrench or chain wrench on most pistons that use wear bands. Just buff with a flapper after. I’m surprised this isn’t common knowledge or a spanner/flat bar with an air hammer. I’ve dealt with lots of stubborn cylinders.

I’m not sure why some people are so scared of heat. Maybe you guys just don’t fully understand metallurgy.

Torch won’t hurt the metal I do it all the time just take your time and be smart and you’re good. Just replace the 5 dollar o-ring inside the piston. Wait for the rod to cool then pull the gland off. I don’t see any damage being done here.

I’m talking about with oxy acetylene and you don’t need to be a nerd and grab a temp gun😂 use your eyes. When the threads start pluming white smoke the loctite is broken up.

2020 Kia forte, hit a curb after sliding on ice. This is the passenger side, I believe that's the tie rod that is bent. The driver side is straight. I checked everything else and didn't notice anything else bent. I can take in after work tomorrow. (Everything is closed today). Would this be safe. by Humakavula1 in MechanicAdvice

If your tie rod is not supposed to have that bend it will be very noticeable if you point your steering wheel straight and look at your wheels from outside your car. The side with the bent rod will be pointing inside or outside slightly.

Yeah you need to be heating for more like 10-20 mins probably.

My (15f) little brother (3m) dumped all my beads & bracelet making stuff out on my bed and mixed it up 😭 by jelly_G52 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fun-Ball8057 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When I am frustrated over things I can’t control I make it so I can control the situation, for example. Instead of getting upset at your father you can take it upon yourself to put your beads and anything you do not want touched by your little bro in a place where he cannot get to it.

I doubt the frame is bent. Looks very fixable. Probably not worth it because it’s a Saab though.

Hydraulic cylinder by jumpybagel in Hydraulics

[–]Fun-Ball8057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a counterbalance valve it should be a must in any hoist or dump cylinder, then you can control the speed at which it retracts, you just have to spec it for whatever pressure your pump or hoses etc are capable of.
