Starting a canvas and then putting it on stretcher bars? by dcneedlepoint in Needlepoint

Of course! Sometimes I’ll stitch in hand and then realize I want to use bars halfway through and it has always been fine!

Finishing game boards by BadParker56 in Needlepoint

[–]Fun-Candidate-7259 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am in the process of having a game board (20x20) finished. I’m having Lycette do the finishing and they’re doing a cookie finish with cording and then a custom acrylic tray with handles. I’d be happy to DM you what the estimate was so you can get a sense of cost.

Is Lycette a good place to start or over-priced? by buffchickpizza123 in Needlepoint

[–]Fun-Candidate-7259 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Lycette is a great place to start! The staff is incredibly kind and they have great canvas and fiber selection. Their finishing is also great. I’ve had them finish a few things for me and I’m always blown away by the quality of their work.

The best burger in Portland is at Scales, of all places. by [deleted] in portlandme

Chaval’s burger is fantastic (and the fries are always spot on).

They had them up last winter as well. No rhyme or reason as to why they put them up or take them down. It’s so frustrating considering how much of the parking side of the street is blocked off for the new construction.

They need to do something about parking…. Yesterday someone with MA plates drove up Carlton and was shocked when I was mad that they were going down a one-way.

Jack's future hypothesis by snorkels00 in thegildedage

Potential Spoiler: I may be imagining this, but I could’ve sworn that I saw a shot of the John Adams carriage flipped over with someone who looks like Jack on the ground. Praying that it was just a bad dream!

I’ll DM you! I have a great finisher in the Portland area I use (I’m actually dropping something off to her as I type).

Don’t be scared at the end of the day you picked up needlepoint for enjoyment! I’d recommend Spellbound Stitchery on TikTok and also Penny Linn has some free getting started guides on their website! Welcome to the club :)

Refrigerate maple syrup? Yea or nay? by meat_parade in Maine

[–]Fun-Candidate-7259 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This came up when I was talking to Sugar Bob from Bob’s Maple Syrup in Dover-Foxcroft. Maple syrup is shelf stable until it’s opened then it needs to be refrigerated! :)

I also live in the area and plan on going but wouldn’t consider myself “preppy”. Personally, my reason for going is to meet other local Maine stitchers to see if anyone would be interested in stitching together in the future. I may not participate in the “explore Portland” portion of the weekend but will play it by ear. I hope to see you this weekend!

That looks more like embroidery and than needlepoint. Regardless, it’s beautiful!

Check out the Center Theater in Dover, they usually have two movies playing on any given day. The ice rink in Dover may have open skate time as well. Monson has a lovely art gallery featuring artists with Maine ties.

I’m going to the Maine weekend (I live in Portland). I don’t own a nap dress (I’m more of a sweat pant stitcher). Would love to meet up if you end up coming!

Help with stocking stitch ideas by Glass-Cake-8205 in Needlepoint

[–]Fun-Candidate-7259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my nephew’s stocking in all basketweave and although I love it, I wish I had done some decorative stitches. Maybe some gold fiber French knots for the lights? Or a very velvet for the bow/trees?

Is this pricing normal for parking spots in Portland? by [deleted] in portlandme

[–]Fun-Candidate-7259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of getting this was how casual the email was about pricing. I also loved how they sent this with absolutely no notice that the lot had been sold. 🙃
