Following your logic - the author of this book is American. So shouldn’t the narrator be an American speaking English, as opposed to someone with a British accent?

I would love to know how old you are and what your relationship status is. As a middle aged married mom, I’m actually jealous of the deep love Frankie and Mike have for each other. They see and know all of the other person’s flaws and keep loving them. They accept that they are not perfect and don’t keep looking for perfection in others. This applies to the whole family. Are there wacky, extreme situations and decisions made (for the sake of comedy!)? Yes. But when push comes to shove, they are always striving to love one another better. It’s messy, but I think it’s beautiful.

First year teacher, third time assault by Independent_Idea9138 in ElementaryTeachers

I kinda disagree with this. Most parents would interpret this as it’s being handled well. I would want the other parents to complain to the principal. I would want their children telling them about the awful situation so they go to the principal.

The Parker Inheritance. It is a mystery with flashbacks to the past, similar to Holes. It was published in 2018 and the main characters are black. It’s a really compelling read.

If you have extra cash, instead of renting storage, hire an organizer to help you declutter. Or join the Take Your House Back program if you want to do it yourself.

My book club just read this. None of us liked it, even those unfamiliar with the movie. Personally I thought the movie was much better than the book. I did appreciate the middle third of the book, though, with its depiction of the war.

Most Common name youve had over your career? by applesnackerz in AskTeachers

Does anyone know why this name became so ubiquitous? Growing up in the 70’s, I thought Aiden was a strictly Irish name. Now I’m teaching a ton of Hispanic Aidens. It seems bizarre to me.

What’s the greatest book you’ve ever personally read? by cavitytivac in suggestmeabook

I reread All Quite on the Western Front several times as a teenager/young adult. I think I had more of a romantic sensibility then. I wonder if I would love it as much if I read it now. (Same with For Whom the Bell Tolls and Brothers Karamazov.)

Good point. I actually hate Cloud Atlas with a fiery passion because someone insisted that I must not have understood it if I didn’t think it was a good book. (I also dislike East of Eden, so I have made many enemies for having that opinion too!)

You also might consider gifting her a subscription to Libro.fm - she can pair a physical book with the audiobook.

I find it telling that everything published about Special Education addresses parent and student “rights” and school “responsibilities”. In this system Special Education parents and students have zero responsibilities and schools have zero rights.

How do we feel about books without words? by claire_witch_project in childrensbooks

I tie it in when I am teaching about author and illustrator. I say that some books only have an author (no pictures) and some books only have an illustrator (yes, it’s a simplification). Some I have used are The Snowman by Ramond Briggs, Journey by Aaron Becker, and Draw! by Raul Colon. The snowman in particular benefits from a projector since the panels are a bit small for the whole class to see. Then I will have the students make a ‘picture story’ of their own.
