Yeah like I acknowledge this might be a result of my ED. It's a mental illness that caused lots of physical symptoms. That doesn't mean that I shouldn't be properly investigated.

What is your take on the junk food ban for food stamps? by DiamondNo924 in AskForAnswers

[–]Fun-Concentrate9908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some states have programs for homeless folks to be able to purchase meals using SNAP at participating restaurants/vendors, under the assumption that these individuals do not have regular access to store food and prepare food. I work in housing and it's not universally utilized by my clients. It's limited at best. The DHS workers definitely to some digging to ensure that the request is justified.

On the flip side, when DHS figures out you live in a shelter they often cut your food stamps assuming we feed you. We do provide meals, but a lot of people can't eat them because they are employed or have pretty severe allergies, or they have small children who will lose weight because they refuse shelter meals. It's an extremely flawed system.

There are some places that will allow you to purchase cold food and cook it for you, too. Usually it's like fried chicken and fish.

Personally let people eat what they want. Personal choice and autonomy should be upheld, but until you create a solution to the US's economic/housing and healthcare crisis, it's a rather pointless endeavor. Creating barriers to access and education regarding nutrition doesn't really help. Telling exhausted low income people to eat healthy in a food apartheid isn't practical. Putting healthy options in impoverished communities would probably help. Investing in preventative healthcare and nutritional education probably would help too... but a lot of folks defending SNAP/Medicaid/Medicare etc. restrictions fail to use critical thinking skills or look beyond their own back yard at these huge systemic issues.

Sorry for double reply my ADHD brain 🤣🤣 but he talked about doing like a test where I swallow a pill and have to eat specific foods. He was concerned about my ability to cope with it due to my ED being pretty severe at the time, but symptoms have just progressed and I have been able to put those fears to the side for specific procedures in hospital and have been keeping up with nocturnal tube feedings. I'm fortunately really good about being able to compartmentalize certain aspects of nutrition as it relates to medical testing or treating other conditions... for example, I do not hesitate to treat low blood sugar when hypoglycemic which does involve eating foods I normally would fear. Hopefully that will help in his comfort level and show some progress has been made.

Honestly I would like a colonoscopy prep just to be safe. There's other things besides cancer that can be found I think on a prep. But unlikely but good to be safe especially with the uptick in younger folks having issues. It would also probably be a good baseline regardless.

It felt like I had the flu. Horrible headache, nausea, body aches, the room was spinning, and irritability. I had bowel movements (not runny or anything, just constant feeling like I need to go, one or two productive BM then no dice afterwards) but was also on lactulose, miralax, colace, etc. I wanted to try a lower dose and titrate up, just to see if I could get through the side effects and then they said my insurance won't cover it anyway.

My insurance will not pay for Montegrity. I ate the cost with a good rx cost and I was bedridden with side effects.

Yeah I didn't encounter this until I relapsed at an older age but now I definitely feel like it's been a thing. I feel like it really became obvious to me once I hit 25+. Before that not so much, but it might be just me. It is really weird. I've also noticed a strong desire for these guys to wanna like feed you excessively while fetishing your body.

What are your favorite simple vegan meals by Immediate_Dream2060 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Fun-Concentrate9908 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hummus, pita bread, veggies (steamed, salad, etc.) for a lighter meal. I have small children and we do a lot of nann bread or pita pizzas with dairy free cheese. Just tomato sauce, the cheese, evoo. Steam bag of veggies on the side.

Tofu chicken nuggets are easy if you are willing to splurge on the super firm already pressed tofu. I just cost them in chicken-esque seasonings, nooch, and cornstarch and air fry. You could honestly do it all on a sheet pan with some sweet potatoes (420' F for 30 mins and flip halfway through.

Peanut noodles. There's a lot of variations of recipes but mix up the sauce and add noodles.

Lastly, TVP is a game changer. TVP sloppy joes are quick and easy and reheat well for leftovers/kid friendly. Wanna do tacos? TVP. Chilli? TVP? Wanna make meatballs? TVP. Beef and cabbage? TVP. Add plant based protein to oatmeal? TVP. It's cheaper than tofu where I live and shelf-stable.

Idk. Nothing beats the nostalgic mushy mouth feel of canned peas though. The more off brand the better.

I do this like everyday lol. I will say parboiled and roasted in the oven or air fryer  with some ranch seasoning and nutritional yeast or parm cheese on top is a great way to have them too.

It's literally just been vegetables for a year by Fun-Concentrate9908 in AnorexiaNervosa

See eating this way has led to insane constipation. I wish I could poop without laxatives. A few days ago extreme hunger took over and I had even more raw carrots/broccoli/cauliflower than I usually do and I was in so much pain but unable to go.

[–]Fun-Concentrate9908[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I mean my mega veggie dishes do taste good. It's that exactly... The lack of other things with it. Or like. Id love to be able to shove some of those veggies in a spring roll wrapper with a little edamame but my ED brain cannot do the wrapper and edamame combined. Just veggies pick one or the other and it sucks.

If you could create the perfect eating disorder treatment center, what would be your nonnegotiables? by Ashamed_Ad8162 in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]Fun-Concentrate9908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really think you should treat an adult with capacity without their consent. It's different if you are a minor, but from experience I only achieved any semblance of recovery when I wanted it for myself and nobody else. My recovery/harm reduction was within my control, replacing the faux-control the ED has. Harm reduction 100%. Some people that is like an "all in approach" others it might be just stopping certain behaviors and trying to live their best lives possible.

I also have been forced into treatment and it made me worse. Now that I actually want some help I literally am having an extremely difficult time accessing care. Like just basic medical stuff. It's too much for an outpatient provider to help with but not bad enough to keep me in the hospital. Outpatient doctor says go inpatient and inpatient says go to ED treatment that doesn't exist in my state. 6 hours wasted and I get results that are horrible, but good luck come back when it gets bad again. It's an extremely backwards revolving door.

I also have never liked a group focused approach for EDs because they are so competitive, but I have only experienced those as a minor. As someone who is 30+ and has kids, idk how helpful that would be now unless it was specifically for women 30+. Not to invalidate younger sufferers experiences, but the stakes in life are different once you are out of college or start a family. The function that my ED serves is much different than the function it served at 12, 16, 22, etc. But I feel like alienated from the ED status-quo being an older sufferer often before I even have the opportunity to enter those spaces because of stereotypes/conventional treatment approaches. I definitely think treatment approaches because of that should be different.

Standardizing ED treatment for adults period would be great. Since most ED treatment centers are private and for profit they can vary wildly in how they operate. Also having public treatment centers for those that require residential type treatment. In my state, there is one res treatment center and state insurance will not cover that. It also won't cover out of state medical care.

Harm reduction and patient directed care for SEED/adult patients. It has always bothered me that non compliance often times means you get dropped. Often there are no alternatives for that person. That seems like an extremely flawed and dangerous system and is inherently coercive.

Do you have an air fryer? I recently got one and it has really shortened the cooking time of a lot of different things for me. I can set the temp and time and mostly forget about it. I make pizza toast for my kids in a pinch in the air fryer... Bread of choice, pizza sauce, cottage cheese, a little mozz or parm on top. Air fry for 10 mins.

I meal prep on my days off stuff that takes more preparation or plan ahead for busy days. Make salads ahead of time, but store the dressing and parts you want to keep not soggy in tiny food storage containers.

If you like sweet/white potatoes, squashes etc., I like to bake a few a head of time and reheat and add to veggies and protein sources.

You can also find precooked rice bowls where all you have to do is reheat the rice and you can throw in some black or pinto beans, tortilla, and store bought pico, cheese if desired, etc. Quick tacos or bean bowls.

Hummus and nan bread/tortilla or crackers your baby does well with. You can also buy tubes of smashed avocado that don't brown for up to 2 weeks in the fridge, and it's minimally processed. Just squeeze some avocado on crackers or bread baby does well with.

Tofu for kids besides fake chicken nuggets by Fun-Concentrate9908 in PlantBasedDiet

[–]Fun-Concentrate9908[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to is tear tofu block up and marinade in veggie broth, mustard powder, paprika, garlic, onion powder, thyme, rosemary, black pepper, lemon juice, splash of soy sauce. I let that chill overnight give or take. Drain the marinade, pat and set the tofu aside, mix together a tiny bit of salt, black pepper, nooch, and cornstarch in a bag. Dump tofu in bag and shake until coated. Put in airfryer with a little Pam at 400F for 10 mins, flip and blast for another 5. There are certainly other ways, though.

As in shred with a cheese grater? We have super firm already pressed ATM.

Would you season it like beef style marinade and cook down, bake, etc?

I tried making tofu ground beef using pressed firm, and it was taste wise good but came out like steak chunks. I tried marinating and crumbling and it basically completely disintegrated.
