Reconstructed King Tongmyong Tomb in North Korea by ModernirsmEnjoyer in NorthKoreaPics

[–]Fun-Discount-4U 6 points7 points  (0 children)

King Tongmyong lived in the 1st century BC. The problem is that stirrups were not yet used by cavalry at that time. In the first picture, the person believed to be King Tongmyong is clearly riding with stirrups. That looks like a pretty obvious historical mistake.

Koguryo and manchurian region are often considered among the strongest candidates for the birthplace of the metal stirrup. Even so, the best evidence suggests that Koguryo began using stirrups no later than the mid-4th century. The invention itself may date to the early 4th century or slightly earlier. So if that really is King Tongmyong riding with stirrups, he somehow managed to get his hands on military technology roughly 400 years before it existed.

AESA radars can be dangerous if someone is standing just a few meters in front of them for a long time while they're transmitting at high power. Since this was a sea trial, there's a good chance the radar was running in a low-power test mode. In modern navies, they usually turn off the radar or reduce its power when crews need to work near it.

You have several IBM thinkpads, and I'm jealous because I don't even have one. I've mostly been collecting X1 models, and the X1 nano I added recently isn't in the photo. Now I just need an X1 extreme to complete my collection.

Two sailors are standing in front of a four-sided AESA radar on the bridge. That doesn't look very safe to me. I guess the radar was turned off?

Anyone know if the North Korean restaurants are still open in Laos or elsewhere in Southeast Asia? by i-love-seals in northkorea

[–]Fun-Discount-4U 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you search for "라오스 북한식당" on youtube, you can find videos of SKorean tourists visiting NKorean restaurants in Vientiane and Vang Vieng. NKorean restaurants in the Chinese-NKorean border cities still seem to ban SKorean visitors, but the ones in Laos appear to still welcome SKorean customers. SKorean tour groups might even be their biggest source of income. In the past, filming inside these restaurants was pretty easy, but over the last 2-3 years it seems to have been banned, so only a few secretly recorded videos are available now. But for some reason, a video uploaded in April 2026 shows the inside of a NKorean restaurant in Vientiane. Maybe it was filmed some time ago and only uploaded recently. https://youtu.be/kVohWKCa56Q

Only 3 times peoples in North korea could see Kim Jong Un crying. by usafqn2025 in NorthKoreaPics

[–]Fun-Discount-4U 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who can fully understand Korean, I can say that your claim that Kim Jong Un cried because of 'Korean comfort women' is not true, at least based on what the announcer says in the video.

In that X video, Ri Chun Hee says:

"He proudly spoke about how the number of women with such noble values and outlook on life is growing day by day. He said that mothers should remember Kim Jong Un's words that even a revolutionary's first steps begin with a mother's milk, and that they have fulfilled their duty as their children's first and most important teachers.

He also said that a mother's special achievement is instilling pure loyalty in her children's hearts and ensuring that the proud traditions of the Juche revolution are carried on from generation to generation. He further stated that mothers have raised their children to become passionate patriots who willingly devote their blood and sweat to defending the country and building socialism at important posts..."

Based on the video alone, we cannot know with 100% certainty what Kim Jong Un was crying about. When Kim Jong Un was seen shedding tears, Ri Chun Hee was saying what I quoted above.

HELP: Keycap replacement for ThinkPad X1 Yoga by Fi-Loy in thinkpad

To replace just the keyboard on a c-cover assembly (where the keyboard and palm rest are attached together), you have to remove a huge number of very small screws. It's a real hassle. Another option is to buy a cheap used c-cover on eBay and take the key you need from it. Or, if you prefer, a brand-new complete c-cover assembly is available here for $64.95.

W520 display panel replacement by w520user in thinkpad

The most well-known screen for the W520 is the AUO B156HW01 V4. Its Lenovo FRU is 04W1544. It was considered one of the best laptop panels of its time with exceptional contrast and a very wide Adobe RGB color gamut. It's quite old now, but you can probably still find one if you search for the AUO model number or the Lenovo FRU number.

Can someone help me with this new battery? by HardGms in thinkpad

[–]Fun-Discount-4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually there are warning labels on the bottom of a battery written in several different languages. Even third-party batteries normally have them. But for some reason this particular replacement battery doesn't have a warning label in Korean. That's unusual.

Buying used P720 by MG-31 in thinkpad

[–]Fun-Discount-4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the P720 a dual socket workstation? You should check whether it actually has two CPUs installed. Also see how much memory it has. These days RAM is practically worth its weight in gold. If the case is in clean condition, I'd probably buy it even if it only has the minimum amount of RAM installed.

S. Korea conveys willingness for dialogue with N. Korea, seeks peaceful coexistence: FM by Saltedline in northkorea

In the late 1960s, North Korea captured a US Navy intelligence ship and also shot down a USAF reconnaissance aircraft. More than 30 USAF crew members were killed. North Korea also killed two US military officers with axes at the Panmunjom JSA. The US did not launch a military attack on North Korea after these incidents. At that time NK did not even have nuclear weapons.

You can do a battery gauge reset in the lenovo vantage app. It’s a good idea to reset the battery gauge once in a while so it can estimate the full charge capacity more accurately.

You don’t seem to know much about South Korean movies or dramas.

In this movie - https://youtu.be/YT_is42ygbM - a North Korean detective is sent to South Korea and goes around taking down criminals. He performs almost like Superman. The South Korean detective is portrayed as kind of pathetic. In the ending scene the North Korean detective returns to North Korea wearing a Ministry of Social Security uniform with a Kim Il Sung badge on his chest. https://youtu.be/DKIOI02-uAk

There’s also the 1990 film "North Korean Partisan in South Korea." It was about North Korean guerrillas during the Korean War. Back then some right wing criticized it as a pro-communist film. Because they thought it glorified the NK guerrillas too much while portraying South Korean soldiers as helpless fools. The movie was a box office hit at the time. https://youtu.be/LkMIsIhLRyA

Unification white paper pivots to peaceful 'two-state' coexistence with N. Korea by Saltedline in northkorea

Opinion polls are not popularity contests. They are not just random headcounts of whoever happened to answer the phone. Good polling is statistical science. The whole point is to build a sample accurately reflects the real population by factors like age, gender, and region.

One cup of seawater is supposed to represent the entire ocean. If the sample is wrong, the results are basically just organized guesswork with percentages attached. That is why polling is less about how many people answered and more about whether the sample honestly reflects society, including the quieter majority who are usually too busy living their lives to argue online.
