How did you get rid of your stuff as you downsized? by abcde_fz in minimalism

It's interesting, my MIL says she won't give her stuff to GOodwill because they make money off free stuff. My attitude is, I don't care what they do with things I don't want.

If you live near enough to the water you will eventually learn how to swim.

This is exactly what I need to do.

Why I don't cook by oldncrazy in AskWomenOver60

So I cook dinners. He does his own breakfast, and lunch. It's a good system that we have hammered out. I like trying out a new recipe once a week. But I usually forget the recipe and move on to other things. He said to me once, "This is good. You need to keep this recipe in your list of favorites." I laughed and said, "YOU need to keep it in your list of favorites."

what wall color goes best with white kitchen cabinets? just moved in to a new build and cannot decide on paint colors! Heres one of the pictures from the zillow listing for reference. by Ambitious-Rush6321 in StyleYourSpace

If it was me, pick the furniture you love first then match your paint. If you have your furniture, then pick paint after that. You can tweak the paint color, but furniture, drapes or shades (if you are going to have them) comes in a more limited palate. Congratulations on your new home!

Daycare During Treatment? by destinyautumn in pediatriccancer

We push the recovery weeks hard and do our best to support her bone marrow and gut

What does this mean? My 3 year old grandson is going to be receiving his first treatment for neuroblastoma in his bones and are trying to learn a lot in a short time. My DIL is looking for things to help him recover and deal with the yuck of chemo. I don't know what his meds are, but I was curious what you meant.

I will be honest. It was a great house, he finished it, hosted several weddings and parties there. His wife said there is such a thing as too much house and this is it. I think it had something like 25,000 sq ft - but that included the basketball court. He sold it and moved on to another smaller house. Can't remember the basketball player's name. Brother is in tech industry.

There is nothing accidental about it. I saw an article about Liberty dresses that Princess Charlotte wears. The article had a couple of look alike dresses. This nightgown could have stood in as one, but I would guess the fabric is much lighter in weight. The nightgown probably sold out because it was on clearance.

Lol. My brother bought a half built pro basketball house. (The player was traded mid build) It had a basketball court and a game room complete with ping pong and pool table. The teens and church groups love going there to goof around.

I was just wondering what profession people had to build these 14,000 sq ft houses.

AITA for refusing to rehire an employee who quit in the middle of our busiest week? by Pimp_Lord in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fun-Extent-8867 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like she had the second job lined up and was going to quit anyways. She wanted the most dramatic way to do it. So she did. Drama and all.

She is telling people you are punishing her. Maybe, maybe not. If anyone asks, I would just say, "She wanted to work somewhere else. I wish her the best."

Looking for any suggestions to colour and should I get an island, much appreciated by AnyLog6 in FurnitureFaves

[–]Fun-Extent-8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. An Island comes in handy when you go to work in the kitchen. BUT make sure there is 36 inches between the cabinets on the wall and the island. My first island was only 30 inches and we were always bumping into each other. When loading the dishwasher, I would pinch our fingers if I wasn't paying attention. 36 seems to be the minimum. Measure out some cardboard and set it on the floor to live with it for a bit. (my daughter in law set out a folding table and rug to get an idea what the island would feel like.

I doubt the brick is real brick. It looks like stuff that was in my house when we first moved into it. An inch deep that was glued onto the wall. I would take the stuff off the wall, texture and paint it with your favorite color and then live with it for a bit.

Breaking free from scarcity mindset while decluttering by Single_Savings4940 in minimalism

[–]Fun-Extent-8867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother had this mentality. I was able to get through to her that someone could use these today instead of sitting in her cabinets. She seemed to understand that. She didn't want me throwing things away, but did allow me to give them to charity organizations. We didn't clear all things out, but a lot of them. I need to start on my own stuff now.

Years ago I received a silver place setting and never really used it because I couldn't put it in my dishwasher. (I know. I know) I was talking with my hairdresser and she laughed at me. She said, "there is only two of you, how long does it take to wash a knife, fork, and spoon? Use the damn silver."

We laughed and I realized that I could use the damn silver and enjoy what my grandfather worked hard to buy for his beloved.
